Epson R1800 consistent solid red light pattern

I have a CFS installed on my Epson R1800.
Whenever I turn on the printer a solid light pattern of 4 cartridges, M,Mk,R,GO always appears even though the ink supply is full. The pattern of every other cartridge light being solid is consistent. If I lift the cartridges out and re-fit them the lights go out and the printer goes through a cleaning process (wasting even more ink). If I then try a nozzle check the same warning light pattern re-appears and everything stops.

One question would be: is it the CFS or the printer that is at fault?
Answering my own query...

I discovered that the CFS cartridge chips were not contacting the printer chip readers good enough. The consistent every-other solid light pattern was my first clue.
I put a spacer between each cartridge tab and the cartridge body to put more pressure on the contact point.
This solved the problem.

The CFS was at fault. I guess the plastic tension tabs lose their effectiveness after a while and need extra help.
