Hp HP CopyJet Color

hp 4730 color alignment off

I have an HP 4730 which appears that the magenta color is out of alignment by about 1/8". The carts are new as well as the transfer kit. Any tips on where to look to realign this unit?
Are the cartridges OEM or aftermarket. I usually see aftermarket cartridges causing misalignment on colors. You can also turn off cartridge recognition and swap another color with the magenta. If the replacement color in the magenta spot is still off then you do indeed have an alignment problem with that spot.
Try these things first and we can go from there.

I turned off cartridge recognition, swapped cyan and magenta and printed a test page. Cyan was now misaligned. So I don't think it is the cart. Tips for what to check next?

Read this thread. Towards the end of the thread, there is a procedure on doing a DC controller reset and then a full calibration. http://h30499.www3.hp.com

I did a cold reset and a full calibration. Not sure if a cold reset from the menu is the same as a dc controller reset. I also verified that the developer and alienation gears were in alignment. I will try the dc controller reset now.

Where is the controller reset button? One says it in inside the cart door, other say on back of printer, others say next to power switch, but I have not found it anywhere. It's a Q7520A.

It's an engine test button. You need something thin and pointy like a paper clip. If you look at the back of the printer you'll see a couple of rectangular openings for air at the right. The engine test hole is near the upper left corner of the second one down. Stick the paper clip in it for the 5 seconds.

There is absolutely no reset hole anywhere on the rear cover. There are three rectangular air openings but no hole at all. There are three screws holding the rear cover on.

I'm looking at the pic in the Service Manual. It shows a white power switch, the 2 aforementioned air openings above it and there's a tiny hole just above the top left corner of the bottom one directly in line with the left side of the white power switch. http://www.scribd.com Page 617 if you still can't find it.

I found it. It is located on the left hand side of the printer and you have to remove the finisher to see it. However running the engine test and full calibrate did not fix the problem.

Brand new transfer kit, brand new hp cart, gears are meshed properly according to dots on teeth, engine test has been run multiple times, full calibration has been run multiple times, problem persists. Anyone have any ideas?

I replaced the DC controller and the colors are now aligned. It is unknown of simply reseating the connectors to the DC controllers would have fixed it because I did not try it. It was too much work to get to that thing to just try reseating.
