Epson Epson Stylus Pro 4800

Epson

Hi
I've recently managed to get my hands on a second hand epson 4800.I've used it 8 times and then a error appeared. MNG REQ 0002. I've looked up the error over the internet and its turns out I need to get a new motor in the printer. I've rang epson and they said it would cost me £315 to get fixed. At the moment I can't afford it. Does anyone know where I can get the motor and would I be able to fix it in?
Ed
Don't recognize this as a valid error message. Could it be Maintenance request 0002 which refers to a carriage motor error?

If you are handy, its possible that you can replace the motor yourself. Be sure to reset the usage counter on the printer after replacing the motor.

Do you know where can I get the motor from? Also do you know where I could get instructions on how to fit it?

We can order the motor. It costs about $263 + shipping and sales tax if sent to California. Presuming that Epson has it in stock, we could have it within a week. As an an authorized Epson service provider we are not allowed to provide manuals to the public. Search the internet for the service manual.

Yep I have replaced a good few dozen of them by now lol.

Its more of a fiddly job than a difficult one. Remove both end covers and drop down the tray which has the mainboard on. Loosen the tension on the carriage belt, remembering to check the belt tension on the scale before doing so, then remove the belt from the pinion of the motor. Unplug the connector for the motor from the mainboard, then undo the cable from all the various clips and pieces of tape up towards the motor. Then remove the motor and do it all again in reverse. Once its installed you will need to reset the counter to clear the error message.

Paul, Sorry to keep asking these questions. You said I need to check the 'tension on the scale' How do I do this,is the meter built into the machine? Also When you said reset the counter is that just re installing the firmware onto the machine. Thanks again for your time.

There is a tension scale with a slider located on one end of the belt (left side i think) which will show you the current tension of the belt. Just check it before the tension is slackened, and tighten it back to the same tension when you are done.

Email me directly by clicking on my name and I will tell you about resetting the counter and try to find some pages i can send you about replacing the motor.

Hi,

I've purchased an Epson 4800 Printer and recently the EPSON light magenta - T605C has run out so I've purchased a light magenta - AGFA LW29D to replace it, as I heard this would work, however the error message has appeared saying 'wrong ink' and I'd like to know how to fix this.

Can anyone help with my request please?

Many thanks
