HI

## 357 Is the ASF paper feed position error. The sensor is not detecting the feed rollers rotate. This could be a faulty sensor or the gear on the end of the feed roller shaft has snapped off.

cheers

My Canon Pixma MP780 can not be turn on. I followed all instructions from Canon: unplug, plug on wall outlet and log off from computer but it won't work.
Do you know how to re-set printer?

Hello,
After all the trying to start the Cannon printer, I purchased a new HP all-in-one for less than $250 instead. Sorry we have these kind of problems. The Cannon should gave us some answers.
Best luck,
Chris

This problem might be VERY EASY TO FIX.
I have encountered this problem several times - each time the problem have been that the room my MP780 is standing in has become too cold.

What I do to fix my printer is just to turn up the heat in the room, wait an hour and then turn the printer off and on again.

This procedure works each time for me :-)

Help with getting the Canon PIXMA MP780 to turn on.

It went out after using it. I was going to replace some empty cartridges, but had to wait for awhile. When I went back a couple of hours later, it was OFF and I haven't been able to get it to turn on since. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - BobAZ
Hi all, I tried to do what this Anonymous person
Re: Canon pixma MP780 error #356 by Anonymous (10/10/06 3:49 PM) recommended.

So my printer was almost completely taken apart but I couldn't get into the place where the white plastic guide should have been adjusted and I was ready to throw the thing out the window too! However I tried one last thing which solved the problem immediately.

Inside the printer, besides the white plastic wheels/gears that were slipping and making the terrible grinding noise I discovered a plastic moving part with a spring. I used a long screwdriver, reached inside to the right where the printhead usually is sitting and pushed that thing back until it clicked. Next time I connected the power cable the gears were not slipping and grinding any more and the printer is working fine again. Biggest problem for me then was to reassemble the whole thing back together again. Good luck for you too!

A couple of the cartridges were low and needed to be replaced. Before doing so, my wife needed to do some things so I got out of the way. A couple of hours later when I went to replace the ink cartridges, the printer was off. I have not been able to get it to come back on. It is as if the power plug was disconnected, but it has not. I called Canon service center and they said that it was probably the logic board and would cost more than buying a new printer.

I see where several other people have had the "power go off", but I didn't see any solutions. Can anybody provide assistance? Thanks.

PRODUCT(S): SFP: PIXMA iP3000/4000/4000R/5000/6000D/8500
MFP: PIXMA MP750/760/780

AFFECTED: All Units

DESCRIPTION: 5 Alternating Blinks (SFP)
##356 (MFP) - Automatic Sheet Feeder [ASF] Cam Sensor Error

SOLUTION(S): Adjust the Screws & Main Case Unit

Movement (i.e. from shipping) may cause the plastic guide to move away from the chassis. When this occurs, the gears cannot rotate properly causing a grinding noise and 5 alternating blinks (SFP) or ##356 (MFP) - ASF Cam Sensor Error.

Procedures

Step 1: Remove the Left & Right Covers and the Main Case Unit (main cover).
Step 2: Remove the 4 mounting screws from the Chassis.
Step 3: Remove the Main Unit from the Bottom Case.
Step 4: Turn the Main Unit over (upside down) and place on work surface as shown in Figure 1.
Step 5: Inspect the ASF section of the Main Unit for a gap between the white plastic guide and the Chassis (Figure 2).

Note: The size of the gap varies. Even if the gap is not visible, complete the steps below.

Step 6: Disconnect the appropriate cables and remove the Logic Board from the Chassis.
Step 7: Loosen (do not remove) the 4 mounting screws (the mounting screws can be found behind the logic board) on the Chassis as shown in Figure 3.
Step 8: Re-seat the white plastic guide so it sits flush against the Chassis. The tip of the white plastic guide should sit slightly inside the mounting screw hole. When seated correctly, the gap will no longer be present as shown in Figure 4.
Step 9: Tighten the 4 mounting screws without causing the plastic guide to shift.
Step 10: Reassemble the printer and retest.
