Hp HP OfficeJet 4215

My piece, the hp officejet 4215, ERROR

Okay, every time i turn this piece of junk on, the lcd simply shows:

Error:0xf0af8005
a a|a a|a a|a a|

and the a's had either one or two little dots over them. customer support = also a piece

i have tried all sorts of things to reset it, anyone have any ideas? im considering making a video of me tossing it up into the air and watching it shatter. in a patch of roses.

i have plugged it in, unplugged it so many times. both the power and the usb cords. in every possible combination.

NOTE: hp officejet 4215 = a piece
I get the same..how do I get it OFF fax (which we dont even use) to just print????

Combines the key: "#+6" inserts the power line; "11" chooses English; "1" confirmation; "10" chooses the USA telecommunication standard; "1" confirmation .

if this does not work then the modem part of the main board is damaged.

hope this helps.

My printer won't print. It will copy, but that is all. When I turn it on, all I get is "fax" or "tel". It won't print anything.

OK, just like Derrick, I have tried every possible trick to make this error go away to no avail. The error is not going away, and the printer does not respond to #6 combination. Neither am I able to get to the underware menue by pressing Setup to reset the NVM RAM... I have misplaced the purchase papers and can't send this thing in. If somebdy knows how to reset this printer, please HELP!!!

I have the same problem with my HP4215. I went to their web site for problem solving. Followed all the reset patterns to no avail. Talked in length to a tech person on chat which duplicated the reset patterns of the written info. Told I was going to be sent a work order. Never came. Filled out a survey from HP. Told them how unpleased I was with their service on their web site. Told me it would cost $149 for them to repair. I would have to pay for the shipping and they would pay for the shipping back. I have had it less than a year but could not find my receipt. Check the price of these printers, are set around $129 with a $30 rebate. Do the math. Then I go back to the site they are so proud of their recycle of used machines. Guess what they will not recycle my printer. No value. I might add I have not used a whole colour ink cartridge yet. To give you a true idea how much it was used. They told me this error is a hardware problem. No more HP's for me.

Hey guys, just to inform u, I had the same problem with mine, down here in South Africa. I contacted some HP techies and they told me that the error represents a power surge on the board. Now they can't fix it, but if its out of warranty, they can do a swop out for certain amount of cash. I have since broken mine for the spares (didnt film it though!). It would be better to buy another printer cos it would cost the same.

Hope this helps.

I have had my HP 4215 all in one for a couple of years. In the past week, I've been having trouble faxing out. I'm able to recieve faxes, but cann't fax out. It gives me a print out indicating
erro 344. I've read the manual and instructions, and it says "lost contact, or lost communications". It says that for a lot of error numbers. I've checked all connections, and still not able to fax out. Any one has any suggestions as what to do next to fix the darn thing? Is it fixable ?

my 4215 is about 2 years old. the on button and exclamation point flash very fast, and i get the same error code as this guy. 0xf0af8005 with the small letter a's below it. i was on phone with tech, and chatted with two different techs at hp. i got the same run around. i think the problem is in the cover where the on switch is located. i am considering tearing it down and trying to fix myself. if i am successful, i will let you know. for now, my old canon s600 will have to do. still cant fax.

I have the same error. Also followed same steps for resetting error from the hp website. Also no luck. Green led flashing on left side of power button & amber flashy "!" on right side. Very annoying and frustrating. Time for the rubbish bin.

Same here, problem with the black ink cartrage. I have both the correct ink cart's but still not working. HP help offered some help but after going through their directions to fix it did not help. They then said to buy a new printer...It's only 3 years old. After all the problems here I think that they're either scamming the customers by having poor quality printers or are intentionaly setting the error out throught the Internet feed back that they get from your computer and making a non-fixable problem. So if that's thier game and after all the problems I've been reading about people having the same problem that I have, then the next printer that I buy is definitly not going to be a HP piece of crap. They lost me as a customer.

Error code 344 means

The remote machine has failed to respond to a fax command from the local machine due to the connection being interrupted or:

The remote user has pressed the Stop key while the reception was in progress or:

Under rare conditions incompatibility between the two machines may cause the remote machine to simply abandon the call.

1. Reattempt the fax transmission at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved.

2. If the fax session was using error correction, disable ECM if not already disabled.

I replaced the HP with a cheap Canon all-in-one after completely disassembling the HP. There's some neat stuff in there that you could recycle if you like to do projects, such as a power supply and a few motors. BTW, the Canon works perfectly.

unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and with your left hand push and hold the # button and the 6 botton at the same time. continue to hold them while you plug the power cord in and watch the display screen. when you see the words initializing full reset you can let go of the buttons. for a partial reset just substitute the 3 button for the 6 and do the same thing!
