Try unlocking the scanner!
On the underside of the scanner assembly is a LOCK, it has two positions LOCK and UNLOCK.

Hi
My Samsung SCX 4521F scanner is too locked.
I did not find this botton LOCK and UNLOCK?
Help-me please =) - Anonymous
Please, would you explain where exactly I can find these two positions LOCK and UNLOCK?
Thanks in advance! - Anonymous
The solutions posted for the Samsung SCX-4521F all-in-one "scanner locked" error are wrong! This model does not have an external scanner lock. I called Samsung and Level 1 and 2 support told me to shake the printer because the switch/lock is internal! I tried shaking it as hard as I could and it did not unlock. They told me to take it to a Samsung repair shop and they will fix it under warranty if it is less than 1 yr old.

Since mine is not under warranty, this is how I fixed it: to the left of the scanner glass/window, there is another narrow window where you should be able to see the scanner head. The scanner head on mine was locked at a slight angle in this window. I wedged an extremely thin kitchen knife in on the right side of the narrow window, between the edge of the window and the narrow plastic strip. I was able to push the locked end of the scanner head down with the knife by prying the knife up and down between the glass window and the plastic. The end of the scanner towards the back of the printer was locked on mine and it was slanted towards the left side of the printer. After a couple minutes of prying and pushing down on this end, it popped free!

Good luck! I don't know why other "experts" are posting bogus solutions for this. I wasted alot of time looking for a switch based on other incorrect solutions.

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM SHAKING THE MACHINE. OPEN THE SCANNER TOP. LOOK BELOW WHERE THE WHITE STRIP IS, YOU SHOULD SEE A BLUE BUTTON WHICH ONE IS LOCK & OTHER IS UNLOCK. BELOW THE SCANNER, WHERE THE PRINTED PAPER COMES OUT, YOU SHOULD SEE A BLUE BUTTON ABOVE. MOVE THE BUTTON FORWARD OR BACKWARD LOOKING AT THE SCANNER ON TOP TO SEE WHERE IT POSITIONS TO THE "UNLOCK" MODE. PUT THE POWER SWITCH OFF THEN REMOVE POWER CABLE, REMOVE USB CABLE, REMOVE TEL CABLE. WAIT FOR 5 MINUTES AND PUT EVERY CABLE BACK IN ITS SLOTS. PUT THE PWER SWITCH ON, ON IT SHOULD BE READY FOR USAGE ONCE AGAIN. HOPE YOU SUCCEED. - Anonymous
Wow! I guess these scanners just break after some predetermined date of planned obsolescence. I love the jackasses that assume some moron didn't unlock the scanner after unpacking. That

PLEASE explain to me what you did!!!!!!!!! - Anonymous
If it is the SCX 4521F that I have, there are NO external lock buttons. I fixed it by observing that the scanner rubber belt that moved the head was not moving the scanner module, as it has a little clip that had jumped off the belt.

So, I unscrewed all screws in the top scanner section of the multifunction, then I gently prized open the whole top area such that I could physically move the scanner module inside. I reinserted the rubber belt into the clip. Once started up again, the scanner recalibrated itself and scans fine. If you can't find the LOCK button talked about in other posts, best crack the machine open and fix the actual problem - shaking it won't work.

i suppose the little button that junped off the belt, was blue in colour. im glad to know that you fixed your problem. now enjoy your printer. - Anonymous
Hi Thomas (or anyone who has the answer), how did you open up the scanner section?
I only saw a total of 4 screws: 2 screws above the scan-bed near the far edge/hinge; and 2 screws at the back of the printer just behind/below the area where the other 2 screws (above) are. After I took out those 4 screws, I still couldn't get the scanner section off. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance. - Anonymous
Hi there,

My printer was printing, copying and began to not scan out of the blue. I found a solution.

Looking at the back right, just above the USB cable is a wire loop. It was flicked down. When I lifted it (so at 90 degrees) scanning began working again!

Cheers, Suzanne

Hi,

You can remove the top section of samsung scx scanner by removing a total of seven (7) screws; the four (4) that you mentioned and three (3) others located below the control console.
This can be removed by inserting a small, thin flat head screw driver between the crevace of the console and the body of the printer (white section)in order to release the clips that hold it in place. Once the console is removed, you will see the 3 remaining screws below. Upon removing these screws, you will now have to lift the top section off by using same screw driver to release the clips along the groove where the top and bottom sections are joined. Once released, lift off the entire top of printer to access the scan head.

I just fixed mine with little effort.

Best regards,

Hello,

Out of the blue for no reason my scanner jammed, although it didn't appear that way under the glass. That knife idea is complete bull. Thanks to all who contributed, it saved my day....
I took it apart, but had a hard time understanding the console explanation so I will try to elaborate for others. First make sure you take out the single screw underneath the console on the outside. Then there are 3 screws inside the case, which can only be accessed once you unclip and remove the console panel by carefully wedging and prying the clips loose from the main body. To further explain this, the console part is DARK GREY on mine and removed from the top in front of the scanner lid the panel which the buttons are in. You can then access and remove the screws from inside after removing this panel off from the top.

I got the "scanner locked" error while copying a document and the scanner wand got cocked sideways in its travel. I took the cover off to see if maybe there was some dirt on the track(s) that needed to be cleaned, and realized after removing the cover that there really isn't anything to be done. the center guide rail won't keep the wand from getting crooked on its own, as each end of the rail is guided by a white plastic tab that presses onto the underside of the glass. So I simply put it back together and crossed my fingers.

some clarification: to access the three screws under the control panel: After you've unscrewed the single screw facing downwards towards the paper outlet (under the 'toner save' button), take a thin-bladed screwdriver and pry a gap between the control panel and the white plastic frame, to pop out the bottom edge of the control panel from its frame (the edge towards you as you stand in front of the unit). Then once you've pried the bottom edge of the control panel (careful not to dislodge the circuit board from the pushbutton trim panel), you can pry the scanner-glass edge of the control panel (closest to the scanner glass) loose as well. There are four plastic tabs facing you, and three tabs at the top facing the scanner glass. Once you swing the control panel away upward and to your left, you'll see two screws up towards the scanner glass, and one screw to your lower right. Remove those three screws and you'll now be able to remove the top frame and scanner glass and document feeder. Be careful to not allow the document feeder to hang by its wire lest you damage it.

I fixed it by switching it off for 5 min, removing the power plug...

When I sitched it on again...it started checking everything (making noises...warming up) and then it functioned normally. Try this several times if it doesn't work the first time.

All these methods may be valid, basically the same thing is probably happening to everyone. There is a glob of grease that they put on the center rail which gets pushed out of the way in time. The added friction causes the wand that sweeps back and forth to get cocked, so that it is not laying straight across both ends. The printer is so cheaply made the ends of the wand aren't substantially guided. Mine was well and truly jammed, so if all else fails you will need to take it apart. sctrbrn offers his own version of the same thing I did, obviously there are different color ones around so his or mine might not apply to ones own circumstance. If it weren't for the previous posts I would have had to send it out for repair & wait who knows how long. It seems to be working fine for quite a while now, and I know how to do it again if need be so I'm happy about that. The damn printer squeeks & makes too much noise as well, but for the price I guess you can't expect too much...

Fixed! The belt had skipped the railing so to speak.

Quick idea on how to pop the console. Below there is a screw with an arrow beside it. If you push down (or up since it's upside down) on the screw with a scewdriver the console will pop out.

my SamsungScx4100 copies only half of the page instead of the full length page. I have had it for sometime but this is the first time this is happening. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to resolve this?
by buremoh on Jan 14, 2012 at 8:59am Add comment
THERE ARE FOLLWOING CAUSES:

1.CLIP FROM BELT HOLDING THE SCANNER HAS COME OFF REFIX BY OPEING THE SCAN UNIT COVER.

2.MOSTLY THE SILVER CABLE FROM SCANNER TO MAIN BOARD IS FAULTY ,
SIMPLY REPLACING IT WITH A NEW ONE WILL RESOLVE THE PROBLEM 99\%
AND YES THERE IS VERY HIGH FAILURE RATIO OP THIS PART(CIS CABLE).
