Hp HP Color LaserJet 4550N

Hp 4550n error 57.3

Hi all, I have recently aquired a HP ColourLaserjet 4550N, and after having changed the fuser i am gettin error 57.3 upper drawer error. I gather from reading this that this can be caused by either the door switch or the fan itself failing. are there any repairs or test I can do before I call in the pro's ?

Many thanks,

Allan.
Hi all, I am getting the 57.3 error as well. How do I locate the door switch and fan? I would like to inspect the parts and remove them for replacement. Are there any good manuals that describe the location of these parts and how to remove them?

Thanks,

TDK

It is always the fan and not hard to access. Just open the top drawer and remove the drum. Now in the center you will see a fan and there is a little clip you pull on and it opens for access to the fan. Best way to repair if the fan is stuck is to remove the fan but do not cut the wires and remove the label on the fan very slowly and put a drop of light machine oil on the shaft and put the label back on. Clean any dust build up on the blades and reassemble and keep you fingers crossed. If it work fine and if not be prepared to pay a fortune for a replacment since on one makes it anymore and be careful since it comes in two different voltages.

You can use generic 12v or 24v 40MM 3W fans (depending which version you have). If you're in the UK you can get both types from RS or Farnell. I think Farnell may have stopped supplying the 3 wire 24v fans though. The proper Canon/HP parts are REALLY expensive and difficult to get hold of - especially now! I used to snip the wires off the old faulty fan, tin the snipped ends and install a miniture terminal block (also available from RS or farnell), and install the replacement fan wires, which are pretinned, into the terminal block.

i purchased " CRC HeavyDuty Silicone: multi-use lubricant "
from walmart's Automotive section for only $1.97; *(where they keep WD-40/braked cleaners and stuff).. this stuff works like a charm and cleared up
my 57.3 error.
(make sure unit is unplugged from power)
1. open top drawer,
2. remove drum
3. press in the tab on front fan cage (squeeze tabs together)
4. Lift hinges out of place
5. use small Screw driver to push bottom part of fan (from front side) out of the back of the "fan cage" - there are two tabs that hold it in place at the bottom & top ( press firmly on plastic to move these slightly out of the way.

6. Free cables from Fan cage, clean Fan cage with q-tips alcohol(optional)

7. Clean fan with q-tips and alcohol (optional)
8. Remove label where wires go into the fan... do not completely remove label.

9. Spray a small amount of silicone lube into that circle space in the center ( do not spray any other areas ) have a paper towel ready so you can wipe up what ever gets on the plastic part of the fan... a lil dab will do ya...

10. Spin fan manually in both directions, you'll notice almost instantly it spins freely and with out noise or friction.

11. put fan back into cage and reassemble.

tada your 57.3 OSD is gone.

Any of the 57 errors on the HP LaserJet 9000 , 9040, and 9050 series printers are fan errors. There are 7 fans in the machine. Replacing the corresponding fan usually cures these errors; fans are a common failure part on this model. Potentially a failing DC controller could also cause a fake fan error, but that is not common. Below is a description of each fan error, and the corresponding part# for that fan.
