HP LaserJet IIP Error #12

Hi,

My printer, the Hewlett Parkard Laser Jet IIP has been giving me fits. It will not print. It reads "#12 Open or no EP". I have no idea what this means. I am limited with the computer and even though I have practically take the printer apart cannot find out what is wrong. I replaced the toner, nothing is open on the darn thing that I can see, the fan is working, it did start, by itself, to work, but unfortuately I had to go out of town and turned it off. Since then it comes on, but #12 is again flashing at me and I cannot print anything. Any suggestion is appreciated even to hurling it out of the window.

Thanks for whatever you can advise.

Joan
Joan, the cause of your ERROR 12 message is that the Toner Density Board has gone bad.

Hi Trev or Moe,

First, thanks for the information. I feel much better and a tat less stupid.

Queston: How long does it take to get the kit? How do I pay for it? Do you recommend repair or purchasing a new one since it is rather old?

Thanks again and have a great day. Joan

Joan, as you say the IIP is getting a bit past it. Moe will post the kit, no problems. This site will tell you how to order it and pay, I'm sure.

If you want to go for a newer printer, I personally would go for a Laserjet 1200. Small, neat and fast. A second-hand unit could be found somewhere on the Net. (ebay??)

Others may want to chip in and give their opinions.
