I installed an OLD set of cartridges; got error message: DEFECTIVE, REPLACE.

Can the printer orifices be cleaned? They appear to be clogged.

The cartridges have chips on them that the printer reads. The printer is built by Canon which means that the heads are removable. What you do is take out the ink tanks. To the right, you'll see a plastic lever. Lift it up and it releases the heads. Reach in and remove them. Take them to the sink and using hot tap water flush them from the top for 10 seconds and then flip it over and flush the bottoms for 10 seconds. Repeat a few times until the water runs clear. Dry off with a paper towel and reinstall.
