PLW NT vs blank sheets

The same PLW NT I mentioned in another message started, a few months ago, feeding blank pages. It will print one or more pages, then feed a blank page, and stop. It doesn't show a jam, the green light continues flashing as though it were printing, and the host system does not detect the stoppage. But it won't print another page until I open it up and shut it -- then it prints a page (or occasionally a few pages) and does the same thing.

I note a repair kit for "Apple PLW Blank Page Error Repair Kit". However, the description is too terse for me to determine if this refers to the problem I have -- it just says "second page feeds a blank copy" and refers to a non-specific repair part. In particular, I can't tell whether this kit addresses picking more than one sheet at a time, or the problem I have, or something else.

Which is it?

Thanks,

Edward Reid

This is one of the problems that repair shops, especially the authorized ones can't diagnose. If you're feeding from the optional lower cassette tray, our kit will fix your problem. The usual symptom is the first page prints fine and subsequent pages after that are blank and then the jam. When the problem first starts, you might get a few sheets and then blank ones.

Thanks ... I think that means it will work, but I'm still a bit confused.

"Optional lower cassette tray": no such thing on a PLW NT, at least not that I know of. It has the main tray under the printer, and the alternate feed is a flimsy fold-out tray on the front. The problem does happen when feeding from the main, lower tray -- I don't think I tried switching to the alternate feed.

"Jam" -- you just mean it stops, right? Blasted terminology. To me, "jam" means paper is stuck, mangled, inside, but I know some people just mean the machine stopped.

Anyway, I think I'm on the right track here and I'm gonna rescue my printer from the shop. Do you offer multiple-kit discounts? :-) ... looks like I'm probably gonna need three.

Thanks,

Edward Reid

We can work with you on pricing on the kits you need. If the shop asks for payment for diagnosis, ask them exactly what the diagnosis is. If they can't tell you, refuse to pay, threaten suit and you'll get it back.

Actually, the lower feeder is an optional feeder. It may have come standard on some models, but some of the Personal LW's don't come with them. The fold-out flimsy part is the paper feeder on those models that don't have the optional tray. I think Apple may have included the paper feeder at one point to try and sell more printers.

Ah, I see, thanks. I think you're right; I'm pretty sure it was standard on the PLW NT. At least, I don't remember having a choice (though that was ten years ago).
