Epson C86 W/ Flashing Ink and Paper Lights

My C86 has the Ink and Paper lights flashing with the green on/off light off. The manual says, "Caution: Do not turn off the unit when the green light is flashing." which is what I think I did. Now, as soon as the printer is turned on both paper and ink lights begin flashing and the green on/off light goes off. The manual also says to check for pieces of paper or other things that may be jammed in the printer. Nothing is jammed in the printer. I had previously put a few drops of windex on the sponge pads, but I don't think this should have caused a problem.
Thanks for any help.
make sure the "sponge pad" isnt jammed.

How do you check to see if the sponge pad is jammed? Does it move up and down or back and forth? Is there an adjustment for it? - Anonymous
Are the lights flashing on/off together, or are they flashing alternately? If the latter, it's usually caused by the Waste Ink Pad Protection Counter reaching its limit. You can check the reading and reset it by installing the SSC Utility software described on this forum.
