Hewlett Packard® 8100 Cartridge
Separating the cartridge halves:
1. Use a small, flat head screwdriver to gently pry up the base of the cartridge
clips (located on each side of the cartridge (fig. 1)).
a. Remove the clips by prying outward after they have been lifted (fig. 2).
b. Use a punch to drive the pins into the cartridge (fig. 3). It might be
difficult if they have never been punched in before. Note: There are
blockers which prevent the pins from being pushed in easily. The
longer pin is located on the drive gear side.

c. Separate the cartridge halves: toner hopper unit and OPC drum unit.

Toner Hopper Unit Instructions
1. On the toner hopper disassembly: remove the two screws holding the end cap
in place (fig. 4).

2. Remove the cover from the opposite end of the cartridge (2 screws).
Note: Make a note of the gear position for re-assembly. Do not remove or
pull on the two small black or white gears located at the back; this will cause
the toner agitator rods to fall into the hopper (see fig. 5).

3. Lift the magnetic roller from the hopper. Use compressed air and a clean,
lint-free cloth to remove residual toner from the surface of the roller.

4. Remove the two screws holding the doctor blade in place. Gently wipe the

blade with a clean, lint-free cloth. If the blade is worn or damaged, replace

with Oasis PN: WXDB20. For optimum performance, we recommend

replacing this part after every cycle.

Figure 6
5. Empty out remaining toner from the hopper. Use compressed air to clean
all residual toner. Inspect the mag roller sealing blade; replace with Oasis
PN: WXMB10 if damaged. Refill the toner hopper through the mag roller
opening.
6. Reassemble the toner hopper: (reverse steps 1-4).
a. Install the doctor blade and secure with two screws Oasis PN: WXDB20.
b. Install a new mag roller sealing blade Oasis PN: WXMB10.
c. Install the magnetic roller, ensuring all electrical contacts are clean.
d. Install the non-gear end cover and secure with two screws.
e. Install
gears.
f. Align the magnetic roller shaft "D" shaped end with the slot on the
gear cover and secure with two screws.
Drum Unit Instructions
1. Use a small drive punch and hammer to gently drive the OPC axle rod (the

end with the white lock ring (fig.7)) 1-2" into the end of the cartridge. Next,

grasp the rod that extends from the opposite end of the cartridge and gently

twist and pull to remove it from the OPC.
a. Gently remove the OPC from the cartridge and clean off residual toner
with compressed air. Store the OPC in a dark place.
b. If the white lock ring is lost or broken during removal, replace with Oasis
PN: WXCP12.

2. Remove the primary charge roller (PCR) by lifting it out of the mounting clips.
To clean the PCR, apply a small amount of Oasis PCR cleaner (PN: 99MS21)
to a clean, lint-free cloth (PN: 99CL14). Gently wipe the surface of the PCR
until all residual toner and PCR cleaner is removed. The surface of the roller
will appear shiny. Use a cotton swab and 99%
Isopropyl Alcohol to remove
Figure 8
residual toner/ conductive grease from the clips.

3. Remove the two screws holding the wiper blade in place and lift the blade out.

Use a clean, lint-free cloth saturated with 99% IPA to remove residual toner

from the blade. Wipe the blade in one direction only. Inspect the blade for

damage and replace if necessary (Oasis PN: H5WB20). For optimum per-

formance, we recommend replacing the blade after every cycle.

4. Empty out remaining toner from the waste bin and use compressed air to
clean all residual toner. Inspect the recovery blade. If damaged, replace
with Oasis PN: H5RB10.
5. Reassemble the waste hopper:
a. Install
the
wiperblade.
b. Lubricate the OPC drum with padding powder. We recommend using
Kynar (PN: 99CL24) or Zinc Sterate (PN: 99CL11).
c. Carefully install the OPC (toner lubricated side toward the wiper blade)
and replace the drum axle shaft through the opening in the OPC drive gear.
Note: The knurled end of the shaft enters the housing last. Replace the
white ring on the non-knurled end of shaft.
d. Rotate the OPC into the wiper blade so that excess padding powder is removed.
e. Next use a lint free cloth PN:99CL14 and wipe the padding powder from the PCR
being careful not to touch the OPC drum.
f. Join the cartridge halves and secure with cartridge clips.
