Mari: We need to know which direction the stripes are going: Vertical, from top to bottom on the paper [11" direction], or Horizontal, from side to side [8 1/2" direction]. We also need to know the actual model of your printer...Denny Conway

Mari: When I see horizontal lines or colored lines [side to side on page] being printed across photos, its usually do to either a failing "Printhead Assembly", or a failing "Main Board Assembly", but no way to really know for sure. Generally speaking, cleaning will not usually help if it is a hardware/parts problem, that is actually causing those types of lines. HOWEVER: There is a slight possibility that a build-up of dried ink, dust, dirt, lint and hair, that has possibly built-up on the bottom side and backside areas of the Printhead Assembly, can sometimes cause the "Printhead Nozzles" to fire crooked and that can cause lines to appear. The only way to find out, is to clean those two areas, just to eliminate that possibility. If you clean those areas and the lines are still there, then you can assume that its probably an actual Hardware/Part Failure thats causing the line problem...If those lines are more like "Void Lines" or "White Lines" running across photos, then it could be a bad ink cartridge, a possibly clogged Printhead Assembly, or even an actual Hardware/Parts Failure [failing Printhead Assembly or Main Board Assembly]. With void lines or white lines, there's also a possibility that your problem is being caused by that same build-up on the bottom side and backside areas of the Printhead Assembly, because it sometimes causes the "Printhead Nozzles" not to fire at all. As you already replaced the ink cartridges, that would usually eliminate a bad ink cartridge, as causing your line problem...If those lines are actually more like ink smears or drag type marks on the paper, then its possible that the same build-up is sticking to the wet ink on the bottom side area of the printhead assembly and its hanging down far enough, to act like a small paint brush. That build-up [hanging down] can transfer wet ink to the paper, as it passes under the printhead assembly, during the actual printing process. Sometimes that build-up will simply smear the wet ink thats being placed on the paper, as that "Print Cartridge Holder Assembly" moves back-n-forth. If its more like an ink smearing problem, then once that area is thoughly cleaned, that problem will normally go away. Check for a couple of e-mails from me that should help in that area, in case you want to do the cleaning and at least eliminate that possibility...Good Luck! Denny Conway

Mari: I'm sorry, but you really can't tell, even by just looking at an example. The only thing you can do is to eliminate possible causes, such as a dirty underside area of the Printhead Assembly. Other than actually performing cleaning and servicing, you could try using a different software program to print from, just in case the software you are using, is causing a possible problem. It sounds like you already deleted your printer and its drivers and loaded new Printer Drivers, so you eliminated that possibility already...HERE'S SOME PREVIOUSLY POSTED INFO, THAT MAY HELP, BUT I HAVE NOT TRIED IT AND KNOW NOTHING ELSE ABOUT WHAT SALLY ACTUALLY DID, BUT IT SEEMED TO WORK FOR HER: Sally 7/27/2004 09:23:53 Re: Epson 1280 streaking magenta. Daniel: I have had a lot of that same trouble on my Epson 980s. I found on the internet some time ago that if you change the print processor to another setting (I used NT EMF 1.008)it gets rid of the magenta streaking wonderfully! I don't know what print processor settings you may have for the Epson 1280 but just try the different ones and see if it works. Here is the info I found originally. I *may* have found a solution for the problem of my Epson 1270 printing red lines that extend beyond the printed area (and all across the printed section as well). I'd tried all the usual stuff to make sure it wasn't clogged print heads or debris in the printer etc., and had read posts here (found on google that it was due to a logic board gone bad. Thinking that a logic board communicates with the printer in a manner that varies depending upon how information is sent to it, I went into Printer Properties box, Advanced tab, Print Processor option (near bottom), Changed "default data type" from RAW to NT EMF 1.008. Voila, seems to work! Don't know for how long, but if you've got the same problem, it's worth a try. "...Denny Conway

canon i320 prints vertical lines in crooked segments by gregory (11/9/04 11:26 PM) reply + / -
my canon i 320 prints black vertical lines in one cm sectors that are slightly off centre.

Some lines of text appear to be in italic.

Any suggestions?
