HP F4185 All-in-one: Power or Mechanical problem? by Errwinn (11/18/09 1:01 AM) reply + / -
Hi,
While printing document, my HP Deskjet F4185 hungs up & freezes. all control buttons lock up & light on, & can not be turned off. i pulled the power cord, but when inserted again, same problem- all control buttons light on & lock up. the computer can not detect anymore my printer. tried to hold the power button while inserting power cord, now some control button light off except power button & counter indicator, but still pc can not detect printer while "E" appears in indicator.(note: No paper jam the paper is released properly from the back of printer) tried to install printer with other computers, same problem. tried also printer not connected with any computer, still same problem.
Any smart ideas, suggestions & instructions from you would be appreciated much.
Thanks in advance!

Errwinn

Typically an all lights on condition indicates a fatal error. If disconnecting and reconnecting the power does not cure the problem its new printer time. See the web page below.

try to pull out ink cartridge & clean the print head with tissue paper. if same result, test other ink cartridge. if still not successful, try removing the control buttons' panel cover (top-left side of printer) den disconnect the small white flat cable connecting the printer & control buttons. clean the silver end part of the cable with a clean cloth or pencil eraser. after that, reconnect, return the cover & try if it now print normally. good luck!
