Brtother HL-2040 Wont pickup paper &acting strange by Needsmet (edited 11/17/09 8:16 AM) reply + / -
Hi,

My brother printer has worked flawlously for the couple years that I have had it. I have only replaced print cartridges. A few months ago, the drum light came on. I found a meathod on line to rest this so the light would go off. I did that and contined to print for a long time.

Then the other day, it just quit. It would not pick up paper and the paper light went on. I did quite a bit of research on line to try to find the problem. No paper anywhere in the printer. So I assumed that perhaps the drum kit finally needed replacing. I ordered a new kit and installed it the other day.

Sometimes it will print just fine and sometimes it wont. When it does not, it produces a red paper light. To get it to print again, I turn it off and on several times and it finaly starts prints again.

I have yet to be able to figure out any pattern to this as to why it wil print then stop printing.

I have it on all day. It comes on like its warming up a lot. I turn my computers off at night. The printer came on like it was warming up serveral times last night.I have not timed this yet as to its intervals, but I will do so.

Anyone have any ideas?

Phillip

Hi Phillip,

After a while the pickup roller will get a build up of paper dust and normal dust. Try cleaning the pickup rollers with a rag and some water. Make sure the rollers completely dry before attempting to use again.

Additionally, it is recommened to use a genuine brother drum unit and genuine toner.

The other possibility when the paper jam light comes on, the machine receives a print job with the paper size (set on the document in the computer) to be printed at a different size then what is loaded in machine.

Hope that helps.
