on those models the new drums were shipped with a clear plastic piece stuck in the drum. when you installed it the plastic piece would exit out cuasing the sensor flag in the fuser to actuate a few times becuase there are notches in the plastic piece. So it resets by this piece actauting a sensor in the fuser within a few seconds. If you dont have one look for someone who does or if you have a new one install the piece from that and put back in the new unit when done. I use to carry these around with me becuase i had lots of customers pull them and not have them when I came out to fix the issue.

Ah I see. The drum had the plastic sheet but after it spat it out the message was still there.

I might need to send the drum back...

no the drum would not cuase the issue. You probably just need to reinsert the plastic piece and do it again. make sure the machine is on when you insert the drum with the plastic piece in it. You should be able to insert the plastic piece by putting it where the paper feeds into the drum. Its triangular so just make sure the first part of the triangle is in the drum so only the base or where the angles stops is visible. you can move the gear on the side by hand to advance it then just reinsert drum in the machine. If your worried about damaging the drum surface then do it with the old drum. the plastic is what resets it not the drum.
