 | HP Officejet 7210 cartridge issues by jimbeaux (10/15/08 4:05 PM) reply | + / - | I'm having issues with my officejet 7210. It will not print in black at all. Anything you try to print black just doesn't come out. There's no error message it's just blank. running a cartridge alignment program fails. Color prints just fine. I'm not sure.

 | Re: HP Officejet 7210 cartridge issues by Stephen (10/17/08 1:12 PM) reply | + / - | Do the blot test on the black cartridge.
Remove cartridge from machine, fold a paper towel back over a couple of times so it is about 4 layers thick, shake cartridge up and down hard, shake over a sink unless you want to clean ink off the floor.
Now blot the nozzles of the cartridge on the paper towel, you should see two black stripes, if you don't the cartridge is clogged.
If the cartridge is clogged, then soak the nozzles in warm water for a couple of minutes and try the blot test again. I recommend about 1/16th of an inch of warm water in a saucer.

 | Re: HP Officejet 7210 cartridge issues by jimbeaux (10/17/08 5:26 PM) reply | + / - | Unfortunately I seem to be having a permissions issue of some sort as my username (global OU Admin account) is able to print from the printer; however, other users can't. The "Everyone" group has printing permissions as far as security goes. I'm going to try reinstalling the software and see if maybe there was an option for everyone to use the printer I missed somehow.

 | Re: HP Officejet 7210 cartridge issues by jimbeaux (10/18/08 8:40 PM) reply | + / - | UPDATE: I was able to fix the permissions issue by changing the port to the printer's hostname (it would also probably work with the IP address). Now if I could only get the jetdirect card to work with as/400 printing.

It probably broke loose and punctured the ribbon cable behind it. HP might replace it under extended warranty. Do a forum search for x-bias spring and you can read how to go about it.
