 | Designjet 5500ps Carriage by tcholmes (9/16/08 5:43 PM) reply | + / - | I have a Designjet 5500ps, and the top of the carriage is cracked. no big deal, but that silly piece of brittle plastic is also responsible for holding tight the 3 trailing cables, so the thing is throwing errors...
I've found a source for the parts. Wasn't easy, this seems to be an all too common failure. (The entire stinkin' carriage, grrr...)
I found a DesignJet 5000 service manual, but I'd feel a lot better about coming at it with a 5500 service manual.
Anyone got a DesignJet 5500 service manual??? I have LOTS of other manuals, so I could make it worth your time.

 | Re: Designjet 5500ps Carriage by tcholmes (7/3/09 9:18 PM) reply | + / - | Oh yeah, I suppose I should report what happened - hardly anyone else does...
Well, it took both the carriage AND the trailing cable to fix it. The carriage was hard to find, and even then it was a questionable 3rd-party refurb. We totally got robbed on the price. Pinnacle can eat my shorts - it's pretty obvious they only buy from other vendors on an on-demand basis, but they wouldn't even facilitate a core buy-back. God knows somebody needs it.
I did pretty good, for a design I'd never worked on before, but I'd feel a lot better having the DesignJet 5500 manual for next time (call it a security blanket). And trust me, after what I saw there WILL be a next time - this is a definite weak spot in the design - it's no wonder the carriage was so hard to get a hold of.
Pretty please? I'm sure I have SOME manual you want. (^_^) Seriously, what do you need?
...For file sharing, I'm using mediafire.com exclusively now - their free version has unlimited uploads, unlimited downloads, and up to 100 MB per file. And their links don't have that annoying download delay or bandwidth limiting. Pretty sweet deal, it's been good enough that I don't feel the need to keep an FTP server running anymore.

I repair all sorts of wide format inkjet printers in South Florida, and I have a very large collection of manuals I would be willing to share. Would it be possible for you to resend the file through yousendit.com? Also, let me know if there are any specific service manuals you need. I have an extensive collection of Roland, Seiko, HP, Seiko, Mimaki, Epson, Encad and Mutoh manuals.
Thanks!
