(surely mechanical) snafu on paper tray - Brother HL-52

This printer has been a workhorse, but something just went awry with how the paper sits in the tray.

It's not "springing up" after I load it (no matter what quantity of paper I put in it.)

Does anyone know of any places on the net that might have photos of how these springs generally work?

Or any ideas of how to go about fixing it? I'd love to try to fix it myself.

Come to think of it, something has been "off" about the paper tray for a while. A long time ago the printer "trained" me to only put 50 sheets in at a time. It would make quite the racket otherwise.

Thanks for your time!

- Jane
