I have an HP 5500DN. The control panel doesn't light up. I'm told I need the "firmware flash card on the formatter" & not a new panel. What exactly is this? Can I do it myself? Any help much appreciated.

the 5500 uses a firmware dimm (like a memory dimm)and a memory dimm. i had this problem when somebody mixed them up, swapping them over fixed the problem. p.s. the 5550 uses a compact flash module. phil.

Wow, great advice!!! I ordered a new C9712-60001 flash dimm but that didn't do the trick. Then I simply switched the firmware dimm & the memory dimm & what do you know? The control panel lit right up! Thanks. PS - Now I have an extra dimm if anyone needs one.

glad it fixed the problem, i changed the formatter, the dc controller and the display before i tried the above, of course the customer denied swapping the dimms over ! it must have been a gremlin ! phil.
