Dot matrix missing dots by 2blounts (5/9/08 10:46 AM) reply + / -
Our print outs seem blurry, they are missing dots or are being hit a second time to darken. We have a lexmark 2400 . Could this be a out dated driver? any help?
Thanks

if it was working day ago and now had problems, its not outdated driver :)
missing dots on matrix can be caused by broken nails (or whatever in english is the thing that produce the dot) or bad coil for some of the nails (its all in the printing head). it happens sometimes to have crooked, sided letters/text if some of the nails is curved and not hitting at the right place
any way, on most matrix i worked on, its easy to replace the head, so if you have more than one printer you can try switching them(the heads).
but if you are most software man, just try reinstall the printer driver as easy start

You can run a test from the control panel on the printer to isolate the problem to printer or driver.

Make sure the ribbon is sitting in correctly around the printhead.
Check that the gap is set correctly - Lever front right I think.

It is probably the printhead. One or more of the pins (nails) have failed or are worn.
