 | HP Photosmart 3310 by Milburn Drysdale (3/3/08 5:09 AM) reply | + / - | Good morning:
I have a HP Photosmart 3310 All-In-One printer. It worked fine with my Vista-based HP PC for about 9 months.
Recently, the computer occasionally fails to communicate with the printer. I have uninstalled the printer, and the reinstalled the drivers. It will work fine, but then a week or so later it again fails to communicate.
Over the last couple of months, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer a dozen times. I even replaced the USB cord between the printer and the PC. It seems to fix things for a while, but a couple of weeks later I am back in the same situation.
I can't tell if it is a problem with my printer or my PC.
Has anyone run into this before?
Thanks, Steve

This occurs when there is a problem with his network. He gets DSL internet service from Verizon, and they have a wireless DSL modem/router that the Vista PC is wirelessly connected to.
About every 6 weeks or so, Verizon has a problem with their DSL service, and for some reason, the Vista PC changes the IP of the 3310 in it's configuration to it's own IP address. In essence, the Vista PC is trying to print to itself! I have had to manually restore the IP address for the printer.
