LaserWriter NTR has diagonal lines on printout

LaserWriter NTR has diagonal lines on printout by Thurletta (1/28/08 7:55 AM) reply + / -
Thank goodness I finished a major print job yesterday before this happened this morning!

On Friday, I loaded a brand new compatible inkjetsuperstore.com toner cartridge that is supposed to have a new drum into my trusty LaserWriter NTR. The print was a tad lighter than what I had been used to from the now-discontinued HP 92275A toner cartridges, but everything seemed to be okay. Finished a major print job on Sunday.

This morning (Monday) I printed out two sheets and both are covered with blotchy-black diagonal lines, going from left to right, 0.5-inch apart. There are also blotchy-black horizontal lines that are 0.5-inch wide and 1.25 inches apart.

I just printed out the text of this message to you and now, in addition to the diagonal and horizontal lines (now lighter and no longer continuous), there are white blotches where there is nothing printed at all.

I've been too afraid to pull out the new toner cartridge and see what may have fallen out in there. Did a search here for diagonal lines, but find nothing.

Moe, what on earth is happening to my trusty NTR? Thanks in advance for your reply.

UPDATE: Just put back my HP toner cartridge I was using before the inkjetsuperstore.com cartridge, and the NTR prints just fine.
Gr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r!

Been discussed many times. If it says "Japan" on the top of the cartridge, then they haven't replaced the wiper blade that causes the problems. I'd get my money back and buy this one http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/specials/toner/hp/S203 which does have a new wiper blade, drum and all the other stuff you are supposed to replace when rebuilding the cartridge.

Thanks, Moe, and yes, I'll get that one for the NTR. Do you also have them for the LW Select 360's? I was so desperate when I found a source for the cartridges that I also ordered one for my LaserWriter Select 360 that is enroute now from CA. I've requested an RMA for the two for the NTR, and am about to request an RMA for the one for the Select 360 before it arrives. If I'm lucky, I can send all three back by the FedEx driver who brings the second package.

We don't offer the 360 on the site. I'll have to ask our cartrige supplier if he does them.

Please do, Moe!

The 360 was given to me last year and it came with five refilled cartridges. The person who gave them to me did not know which of the refills had been used, and which were still useful.

Right now, the 360 cartridge I'd been using prints everything on a gray background that is "brushed" from top to bottom. I printed out Table 18 from the service manual and hope it is just the cartridge, not the transfer roller, power supply, high-voltage assembly, or controller board. I've tried all of the cartridges that came with the printer and none has made a difference.

I'm ordering the one for the NTR this morning. Please post when you find out if your supplier does the 360 cartridges. Thanks again.

Update:

The 360 cartridge arrived today, and I'm glad I opened it instead of returning it untouched as I had planned.

After popping it into the 360, text on clean white pages came out, replacing the grayed backgrounds I'd been getting. Thank goodness the problem was the toner cartridge and not any of the "horrors" listed in Table 18.

It remains to be seen whether this 360 cartridge will work past 50 pages, but at least this one says "Made in the USA."

Still waiting to hear if your supplier does the 360's......
