 | Brother MFC-420CN Printer Ink Problem by Kathy Eck (1/9/08 7:14 PM) reply | + / - | My Brother MFC-420CN has full black, yellow, blue, and red ink BUT the message keeps saying " No Cartridge" or "Replace Ink".....I have been working on this for hours... and I have tried covering all the cartridges with black electical tape BUT I still keep getting the messages... and my printer will not work at all... Can this be fixed or should I walk away and junk it? Thank You, Kathy

For some reason these printers have a big problem with sensing ink levels. The tape lets the sensor think the cartridge float inside is up, meaning a full cartridge. The sensors seem to have difficulty reading where the black float is inside the cartridge.

Covering the "clear side of ink cartridge" with black electrical tape does not work. Any other suggestions?
