CANON i860 ERROR CODE PROBLEM by WALLY HART (edited 1/2/08 12:29 PM) reply + / -
I have a Canon i860 printer that when power is turned on, does not initialize, but rather gives me four amber flash signals on the power button. According to theCanon documentation this is supposed to indicate either a low ink supply or a tank that is completely dry. I have checked all tanks and they are at least half full. I removed them and re-installed them - still have the same problem. Unplugged the power & USB connection for a couple of minutes, then reconnected - no change in malfunction. Any suggestions on what to try next?? Would appreciate any help you can offer, as the OEM repair manual is of no help. When power is turned on, printer head does not move.

Thanks,

Wally Hart

Wally, this just happened to my i860. Worked yesterday and today it powers up with a buzzing sound and the alternating green and amber flashes of four ambers before repeating and as you indicated, no head movement. Please forward any solutions you receive. Jeff

I downloaded the service manual from 2manuals and it indicates two possible failures. Either the logic board has failed or the purge pump is bad. I was able to find an online source for the pump at Vance Baldwin Electronics for $27 and have ordered it. This was the cheaper of the two possibilities and the pump being mechanical more likely to fail. I'll post the results later next week once I receive it. Hope this helps, Jeff
