Hi everyone. I'm experiencing a "remove and check color cartridge" error on an HP Officejet 7210v. I have checked it for the spring having pierced the mylar and I don't see any holes. The springs also don't seem to have escaped their mounts. I have cleaned the carts and the contact points in the carriage. I have also checked the cartridge for while installed with the flap down, and the cartridge is firm.
I'm hoping there's a plug where the ribbon cable may have come loose on the back of the carriage. Does anyone know how to take the carriage off?
I looked at this more and tried an additional 2 color cartridges and about 4 black ones.
It doesn't look that bad to remove the carriage. The carriage rail is held on by only 3 screws. Admittedly they are at a bad angle to get to, but with a small angle bit driver it should be fine. One of the screws access is by the carriage position strip (name ?) which looks like it requires some a secret to take off. Once the carriage rail comes off, the carriage should come with it.
No, it's not as easy as I thought. However, I may be able to cheat. The encoder strip blocks the carriage rail screws. The encoder strip is held on by a maze of metal that is attached about 1cm from the upper case, which I'm appears to require a total disassembly to get to.
I think I'm just going to drill a hole in the case to get at the screw.
Here's what I have figured out thus far about disassembly.
The back panel comes out after removing the big plastic insert and two screws. Lift it up and out.
The front control panel pops off if you pry it from the top.
8 screws hold the scanner cover on the scanner. 2 are hidden under a piece of plastic adjacent to the smaller scanner window.
I have no idea how to free the hinges on the ADF or on the scanner. I'm going to try to remove the ADF and scanner while still attached to the top printer cover. I think I need to get a bit wrench because the space is really tight.
I haven't ever had one apart, but it looks a lot like the 7310. You need #10 torx bits to take the covers off. There are a couple of hidden screws on the 7310 that are to the left and right of the paper tray that hold the side covers on at the front. They actually hold the center plate down, which you'll have to lift to unlatch the side covers. I did my first one without the manual and the 7310 has these cute little plates at the front that you have to figure out how to pop loose to release the side covers. Oh, after you get the side covers loose, there are a couple of tension springs. One is attached to the left side cover. Those are fun to put back. Are you really sure you want to do this? Remember, these instructions apply to the 7310, which is a later model. They might or might not hold true with your model.
Yes, they look exactly the same except for the LCD screen on the 7310. I didn't really want to take it apart, but since it's disassembly or trash (or both), I went ahead. I got it apart, and I agree, it's not for the faint of heart. Thanks for your tips, they were helpful.
Now I have to figure how to remove the right encoder strip bracket to access the last carriage rail screw.
On a positive note, I see a capacitor which has a suspicious tilt and ever-so-slight bulge to it on the back of the carriage. I'm hopeful that when I pull the cartridge, I can replace it, hopefully with a larger cap that can take more abuse.
Ok, got the encoder strip off. Unhook it from the spring on the left by pressing the string. There is a plastic clip on the right side and it clips behind the encoder strip. Unhook that and you should be able to take the encoder strip off the right side. Don't kink the strip or drop it in the ink well.
Next... getting the drive belt off. It's on tight!
