hi. we just bought a canon pixma mp450. it hasn't been 4 months and we barely use the printer yet it say it's out of black ink. we can see that the cartridge still has ink in it but the printer won't print clear pages anymore. i read that those who own brother printers cover the sensors on the ink cartridges. can this be done on canon printers?

Hi!
I just inherited a canon pixma mp450 printer. I had been used a few times, but I was told (and it appears to be) in good condition. However, when I plugg it in the screen displays error code 6500 and the alarm light is blinking. This error code is not in the manual, so far as I can see. Anyone know what this means and how I can fix it?

Re: Canon Pixma MP450 by trigger1937 (9/24/08 8:30 PM) reply + / -
Anonymous,..MP450,... The Service Manual for the MP500, which is very close to the MP450, indicates that the error code of 6500 is a PCI buss error and this is a Service Error Code. Typically this is an internal error of one of the ASIC chips on the logic board and can only be repaired by replacing the logic board at the Canon Service Center.

If you want to take the time to try and repair it, you can take the unit apart and search for a loose connection, or unplug and replug all connections. Other than that, you can sell it for parts.

Canon Printer Picms MP450 Error 6500

My Canon Printer was just over warranty at that time. It displayed error 6500 at the beginning when the printer was on. That was a while ago. When I put the refilled black ink and new colour ink, smoke came out from the black cartridge at the left side of printer. I unplugged the printer right the way. I just wonder whether it is worth to fix or get rid of it. Someone told me that the leaking ink touches the electric wire to get burn smell and can not use refill ink. So, I cleaned both cartridge areas with alcohol Q-tip at left and right sides of printer as far as I can. I decided to buy new black cartridge and I know that I can not return cartridge as soon as open.

Now, I put the new black cartridge and colour cartridge, no smoke coming out. I did not hear cradles moving to the right and busy sound at all. However my colour ink becomes mess up and only has big area of black ink that supposes to be 3 lines of different colors when I tested on paper towel because I stored colour cartridge with plastic wrap in the frig door for a while, I think, or black ink went into colour cartridge on some how. After putting cartridge, Error 6500 still displayed. I donít mind colour mess up, as long as the printer is working. I believe I did not clean enough of leaking ink on the wire. I am a kind of worry to open the printer and can not put it back properly. Please tell me, so I can put it back properly. I donít want to send to the repair shop. It is more expensive than I buy a new printer. Now, I am stuck because I bought black cartridge already. I hope not to buy new colour cartridge again. Besides, cartridges are expensive and I will regret that I decide to fix at the beginning. Oh well.

Please help me. I really appreciate any suggestions.

Re: Canon Pixma MP450 by keadla (2/20/09 3:15 PM) reply + / -
Here's what worked for me in getting rid of the 5100 code so I could print. Using the buttons for Menu and Settings, find the option line that says Restore Factory Settings--I think it's on the Maintenance menu. When you choose this option, it asks you to confirm that you want to restore the original factory settings, Yes or No. When I said Yes to this, I stopped getting the 5100 error and the funny noises and the feeding of a blank sheet of paper when I turned the computer on. I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but it sure fixed the problem for me. It's worth a try.

Like Rachel...my problem for more days than I want to admit is the waste ink absorber is full on my pixma 450. I was jazzed to see that Rachael had found the answer, but it looks like you showed the solution for every model EXCEPT the pixma mp450. In the manual, it states:

it reset the waste int absorber in MP460, too.

I have a Pixma MP450 and it was coming up with the error 5100 and it turned out there was a piece of paper stuck up inside it and as soon as i got it out it worked fine. I was using the stop/reset power method stated in this thread which moved the bar and helped move the paper for me to grab it. hope this will help someone :)

I have a Canon Pixma MP450 printer, and when I was changing the print cartridges I was a little rough and accidentally knocked a small, orange, toothed belt off of it's right holding post. So I have actually 2 questions;
1. How do I open up the printer itself enough that I can see what the belt is supposed to go on. The regular way to open it to replace the cartridges doesn't give me enough room to see the right post, so I need a way to crack open the whole top to get to it.
2. Do you know what the right post should look like once I get the printer open?

Thanks so much!

Re: Canon Pixma MP450 by Neo_612 (12/15/10 7:57 PM) reply + / -
There is a panel on both sides, first take off the cover which is attached to the panel. then there 4 screws on each side of the printer. total of 8 screws. take them off and you can detach 2 panels from left and right side. figure yourself the rest kk :D. That reset procedure worked like a charm on my Pixma MP450. People who say it didn't work on MP450 should do it SLOWLY!!!
1. turn off the printer
2. press the stop/reset(hold it), now press power button and hold it(dim canon logo will appear on the printer LCD screen), now release the STOP/RESET button.
3. LCD screen will start up differently if you did step 2 correctly, now while still holding the power button press and release STOP/RESET button 2 times and then release the power button.
4. press STOP/RESET button 4 times(you will notice light switching between power button and alarm indicator)
5. restart the printer.

G' Day from 'Downunder'. I have a Canon i865 with four flashing ambers. I've read a lot and tried some of the main fixes as listed in your excellent site, to no avail. Before I start delving into the mysterious innards please advise if these 'fixes' are relevant to the i865. Thanks in anticipation!
