Need Epson Stylus C44UX software disc by Mark F (5/19/07 11:29 AM) reply + / -
My expensive printer finally went kaput after 7 years. I hope to be in the position to buy another expensive printer come fall. But, in the meantime I bought an Epson Stylus C44UX (FAWR002753) from someone. He had no disc but said I could get what I needed from the Epson site. The drivers, maybe, but not all the necessary software I will need. I must have an C44UX installation disc for that. When I connected the printer to my Dell PC, the New Hardware Wizard recognized my printer by name, so that works. But, I need the C44UX disc for the software and to install the printer on my PC and the drivers on the disc should be as good as any I could download. After spending just over $100 for the printer, black and color ink cartridges and a USB cable, I'm hoping I can use the printer to catch up on the print jobs that I need to do (greeting cards, CD labels, etc) untill the fall when I plan to get a really good printer. But, I can't go without a printer untill then so is there any way I can get the installation/drivers/software disc for this C44UX printer? I've e-mailed Epson twice this past week and got two auto-responses saying they would get back to me, but I've recieved nothing else from them. Any help that anyone can give will be greatly appreciated. Without the disc I may be out $100 and have no working printer. Mark F

Shouldn't there be more software? Most printers have much more than just drivers and a monitor. Isn't there some way to get all the various software that originally came with the printer? I've never had a printer that worked properly without the right software. Mark F

That's as good as you're going to get as a download. Most software that comes bundled with printers is loaded with totally useless crap. Why don't you download it and try it and see if it meets your needs.

Download? I wish, after seeing what they wanted for a disc. After wading through dozens of pages of surveys and offers I didn't want, I finally was redirected to a page where they offered the drivers and a web to page utility. They wanted 2 dollars each plus $6 shipping and handling. And, besides, printers I've had in the past have had a variety of useful software. I wouldn't have bothered with a used printer except that it was all I could afford at the time. I hope to be able to buy a very good printer come fall, for printing holiday cards and family photos. I just have too many things to print to wait untill then, so I bought the C44UX to use in the meantime. Maybe I'll keep e-mailing Epson untill they respond. I've went through trying times with Dell and Gateway tech support before, but as frustrating as it was, at least they did respond. After 4 days, Epson hasn't. But, I'll keep trying. At least, untill I find another, better way. Mark F

You can get the drivers free without any hoops to jump through here http://www.epson.com and if you want to contact compassmicro you might be able to get the disc from them. I think they cost $10.00 but I am not sure.

The Epson site says that the C44UX comes with a CD Rom with all the needed software. That's what I don't have. But, I wish I did. I've tried e-mailing Epson several times tonight, as I can't download and install their drivers without getting an error message, but I keep getting e-mail failure notices. Could it be they are ignoring me? That's worse than any of the tech support frustrations of the past. No matter how long it took, how vexing the problem or how complicated the resolution, someone was always there to help. Epson, where are you? Mark F.

Re: Need Epson Stylus C44UX software disc- Thanks by Mark F (5/20/07 9:23 PM) reply + / -
I want to thank Dave for sending me instructions on solving the C:\Windows\System32 problem that kept me from installing the drivers from the Epson site. So far I've only printed 2 cards with Hallmark software, and the quality is OK, so it'll suffice untill I get a better one. Dave pointed out that the C44UX is a value-priced printer, and, as I bought it second-hand, that may be why they won't reply to my e-mails. He also suggested several good printers I might consider in the future from the HP Photosmart line (I'm also hoping to buy a new scanner in the future and I'd like one that scans a wide range of things including some old color slides I got after my grandmother passed away). Thanks again to everyone who replied. Mark F

Re: I No Longer Need Epson Stylus C44UX disc by Mark F (5/23/07 5:24 PM) reply + / -
I finally heard from Epson. They apologized for not responding sooner (I guess someone who bought a used printer isn't a high priority). They said that most of the Epson software on the C44UX CDRom is only available for purchase ($16 including shipping for the disc), as only the drivers could be downloaded from their site. I finally managed to do that the other day (thanks again Dave) and the ink monitor came with the drivers, which so far works with the printing software I already have (Media Face, Avery, Memorex Xpressit, American Greetings, Printmaster, Card Zone, Hallmark, Adobe, Microsoft, Roxio, etc) so it's no big loss right now. The print quality, while not as good as a more expensive printer, is better than I expected for a used value-priced printer. I am hoping to get a full-featured photo printer later this year, and maybe a photo scanner that can handle color slides as well. Again thanks for the help. Mark F.
