Pixma MP130 error message: Waste ink absorber almost full

1. To clean physical pads:
Open cover (as if replacing ink cartridge).
Locate waste ink pads, they are far right under cartridge slider.
Pry up waste ink pads (inky, might want to wear gloves).
Rinse pads in sink or with alcohol, dry.
Replace pads. Make sure pads are fully seated.

2. To reset waste ink counter:
Press Menu-Scan-Copy-Scan to enter service menu.
Use arrow keys to scroll to “Service menu counter access”.
Press OK.
Use arrow keys to scroll to “ABS-M DOT COUNT”
Press Copy.
Use arrow keys to reset count to zero.
Press OK.
Press Stop/Reset.

I reset the counter and remover 2 absorbers from the place where the cartridges are parked.

Are these 2 absorbers about a 1/2 rectangle one slightly smaller that the other? Are these the only absorbers? What about the spongie looking thing under the track where the cartridges slide? It looks like a sponge as well.

I followed (basically) the above instructions but was not comfortable removing the pads for fear I might break something. I used alcohol dipped cotton swabs to clean the pads in place. I also removed a good amount of ink goopped on and around a small plastic pouch sitting upright to the right of the pads. This took about 20 q-tips to get clean. I then followed the reset instructions above and all is well.
