 | Canon i9100 Waste Tank Reset Failure by lamont_ancient (3/30/07 11:29 PM) reply | + / - | I have tried the following suggestion to reset my Canon i9100
Canon S9000, S300, S400, i550, i560, i850, i860, i865, i9100, i9950, PIXMA iP3000 above, 1. Turn off printer 2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button. 3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go. 4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go. 5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking. 6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times. 7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more. 8. Your printer should respond as normal.
In step 5 when the green light stops flashing the printer begins a sequence of several short yellow flashes followed by a longer green one.
Should I actually have cleaned or emptied the waste tank before doing this and if so how do I do that?
Any suggestions what I should try next?

 | Re: Canon i9100 Waste Tank Reset Failure by Smee (4/14/07 8:04 PM) reply | + / - | I have had the same result. I actually took the printer apart, cleaned the ink pad, dried it, reinstalled it and have tried literally a hundred times to enter the reset code. I even bought the service manual which has the same procedure as above.
This is really frustrating. Am I doing something wrong in following the reset procedure?
The flash code (seven yellow, followed by a long green) indicates the waste ink tank is full (or maybe not -see below).
Upon releasing the two buttons together (step four) the printer does it's normal initialization dance and then goes into the error reporting loop with the flashing LED.
I have even tried the procedure without the print head installed (which I thought worked because the printer did seem to go into service mode) but when I committed the update, the prinetr would not power off.
When I read the blink codes from the manual it seems to indicate either an EEPROM error in the print head or over temperature reading in the print head. The error code does not toggle between green and orange seven time but blinks orage seven times and then green.
I may try the head cleaning solution next unless someone has any other ideas.

I pulled the ink cartridge holder and cleaned around on the bottom of it and the long foam area under this (which I presume is the waste ink tank as I understand it is not a tank at all.) I did not disassemble anything, just pushed a bunch of paper towels into that area and got it cleaned up. Then went through the reset procedure. I t worked like a charm and I am now printing again and they look great.
Also, I am refilling cartridges with the ink from Media Street. I have had very good results with this. They sell empty cartridges and a good refill kit with syringes, new rubber button stoppers, etc. It is not the cheapest source, but the product has worked well and they have a lot of good support stuff on their site. Have not used a "new" ink cart in about 2 years.

Ive opened up the i9100 and found the waste ink tank (yes there is one! to the right side, down from little sponge you can see) however its just a thick sponge with a one-way gauze so when the ink is tubed in here it cant get out, you need to lift the gauze and shove in paper towels about 5-7 times to soak up the ink. Clean the area, put it back together and all sorted.
So far so good, but I have knackered the centre light (!) hey, ho. As long as it works now. Oh, BTW, Canon UK wanted £105 + VAT + Parts to fix it. Evil people, evil.

 | Re: Canon i9100 7 flashing lights one way to fix by sally137 (7/30/09 11:37 AM) reply | + / - | Hey, I found a way to get the 9100 printer working again from the "long green light-7 flashing yellow lights-long green" death march.
My sister cancelled a print job in the middle to refill the yellow ink, causing the printer to lose its mind. All info on the internet indicated the printer needed service or a new print head. I tried everything, and this sequence below eventually worked (on VISTA by the way, so adjust as necessary for your operating system.)
1) go to control panel/printers & click on the printer. Run as administrator and Cancel all print jobs.
2) open printer front. The ink cartridges automatically center. Flip the little blue print head flippy thingie (I believe that's the technical term) to the right, then back to the left.
3) Press and hold the two buttons on the top of the printer for about ten seconds. Then do it again just because you're frustrated.
4) close the printer. Then go in and do a "Print Head Alignment" from the maintenance menu of the Printing Preferences option.
Should print. Good luck!

This step is tricky. Even though the yellow will still be blinking, the green will stay solid about 2 seconds. YOU MUST PRESS THE RESUME BUTTON 4 TIMES (WHILE THE GREEN BUTTON IS SOLID...YOU MUST DO IT FAST!)
