HP k80 align cartridges and paper mismatch

HP k80 align cartridges and paper mismatch by teabubble (2/26/07 9:38 PM) reply + / -
My printer has the align cartridges message for a long time. Couple days ago, I also started to get paper mismatch error when receiving fax. After searching through the forum, I understand that it could be the len sensor problem. Is this correct? If yes, can anyone provide instructions on how to fix this? Pictures with instructions will be helpful too.

Thanks you.

You replace or clean the spot sensor.

It's the assembly with the light that shines on the paper, look on the side of the carriage, watch and you should see the light come on for a few seconds after paper feeds.

Is that the blue light on the left side when paper is feeding? It appears to be under the ink cartridge. If this is the light and it is on, does that mean it is working? I have tried to wipe that and no help. Am I looking at the wrong light?

It's the blue light, sometimes the lens is broken off and you have to replace the sensor.

How do I replace it? Also I notice that there is a lot of ink spillage on the right side of the printer (inside), is there any easy way to clean it? I assume if I replace the len, a bit of cleaning can also prolong the printer life. Thanks for your help.

It's just screwed to the side of the carriage with a cable to the carriage board.

If you tilt a K80 it spills ink from the spittoon base of the service station.

If you can disassemble and clean it you can get a lot of life out of the print engine

The 1220C spot sensor should work in this machine, and HP still sells it. (search forums for part number)

Most of the 900 series instructions apply to the print engine in the K80.

If you are not getting the paper mismatch error, blot the cartridge nozzles on a damp paper towel a few times for two seconds. You should see a clear indication of black ink flowing freely from the black cartridge and yellow, magenta, and cyan flowing freely from the color cartridge.

All colors must be present to align the cartridges properly.
