HP PSC 700 Scanner Failure,

So basically the screen on the front of this printer says Scanner Failure... The bulb is LIT and MOVES! ... now... HP says the following:

"Scanner failure" front panel error message
This error occurs if the scanner bulb is not heating to the correct temperature or there is some other problem with the scanner hardware. If the all-in-one works correctly, there is generally not a problem. Perform the following steps to resolve the problem:
Verify that the scanner bulb is lit. If the scanner bulb will not light up, the all-in-one must be serviced.
Unplug the power cord and then plug it in again. If the error comes back, remove the power cord from any power strip and plug it directly into a wall power outlet. The power strip may not be supplying enough power to the product.
Perform a partial reset using the following steps:
Unplug the power cord from the all-in-one.
Press and hold the button combination for your all-in-one model that is listed in the table below. If your all-in-one model is not listed in the table, contact HP for assistance.
While still holding the buttons down, plug the power cord back in. Release the buttons after the all-in-one begins to initialize.
For more information on performing a partial reset, see the HP support document, HP All-in-One Products - Performing a Partial Reset (c00060793).
Try to make a copy and/or a scan.
If these steps cannot correct the problem, the all-in-one will need to be serviced.

Now... i've done this.... by the way... the Partial reset keys are "Cancel" and "Left" on the printer... and i have done those steps.... now it says to service it.... but this thing has no coverage or anything, and im not going to pay what could ammount to the price of a new printer to repair it.... is there ANYTHING i can do myself with this so i can use this unit again ?????? Please let me know.

Anyone have any ideas on both of This issues? Please respond... i'd really like to get this model going again.

Talos

You can try cleaning the underside of the glass, and blowing out the scanner/wiping the scanner mirror with dry q-tips.

There are some disassembly instructions for a similar machine at:
