I haven't ran into any thermal printers yet. This printer is printing white streaks. I have cleaned the outside of the printhead. Tried loosening and tightening the tension on the platen roller and the printhead. Anyone know if there is anything else to look at before coming to a conclusion that the printhead needs replaced?

I have cleaned thermal print heads by rubbing them across paper which is abrasive. You must have a hard surface for the paper to lay on. Then rub the thermal head across the paper.
In addition I have used a pencil erasure on them. But you could ruin them with both methods. Make sure this is really what you want to do and use only enough pressure to clean.
Hope this helps but realize it also does not always work. If the head is burnt it will not.

Looks like I'm going to order a printhead. Anyone have a service manual out there or know the procedure on printhead disassembly? I'm sure I can figure it out, but I would like to know in advance to make the job a little easier. After the printhead installation, is there some sort of calibration to perform for alignment?
