Canon Canon Pixma IP1600

Canon IP1200 and IP1600 Cartridge Not Recognized

I just buy a new cartridge for Canon IP1200 and IP1600 (CL-41 and PG40)
And I drop accidentally the PG40 before installed them.
After that, I installed the cartridge I got message "Cartridge not recognized" I tried many way, but still got blink 13x or sometimes 5x when turning on the printer. and still the message "Cartridge not recognized"

Have anyone ever got this problem ?
Had the same problem, I have 2 ip1200 printers and have 2 sets of cartridges (that I have been refilling), one day one printer stopped accepting a color cartridge, but in the other printer the cartridge works fine, and now I cant make the printer work, even with another cartridge.

Solved the problem, just reboot your computer and printer, it should accept the cartridge then.

I use hibernation, that was the problem.

Also, does anyone knows of a spongeless CL-41 and PG-40 cartridges? - Anonymous
I have upgraded to XP Service pkg 2 professional. Also had to buy new ethernet card. I was able to install canon printer Pixma iP1600 but not reconized and Twain also not available. Had not problem before. What can I do to fix problem.? It is not the ink cartridge that are not recognized but the drive and Twain will not accept the code

HOW TO INSTALL REFILLED
CARTRIDGES
The Canon IP1600 does not accept refilled cartridges without the status monitor on the
printer driver being disabled. To disable the monitor, follow the instructions below and then
the refilled cartridge will be accepted and allowed to print.
step 1 – Access the Driver Settings
1. Click on the start menu
2. Go in to Control Panel
3. Click on Printers and Faxes
4. Right click on your printer (Canon IP1600)
5. Go down to properties
6. Then click on maintenance

Step 2 - Click on ‘View Printer Status…..’

Step 3 - Click on Option

Finally, click on enable status monitor. This will turn off the monitor and allow you to use
refilled ink cartridges.
If at any time you get the ‘Ink out’ message on your PC a light under your power button on the
printer will flash. To continue printing, simply press the button and click the close button on the
warning (marked X).
You may need to do this a few times also run the printhead alginment page after.

Thanks for this info - it got me on the right path and now my printer is working. However, I could not see your Step 3 click on Option. - Anonymous
hi there, my 1200 Pixma canon printer is not recongnizing the black cartridge only, plus, not printing anything at all, it only says black cartridge missing and wont even process nozzle check, test page printing, or anything at all.
I tried the steps you mentioned but when reached step three, did not find any OPTION button!! only this showed up
1- Display print queue
2- Cancel printing ..

so.. any other hint on how to get to where i can enable ""status monitor"" option? - Anonymous
i've disabled my status monitor, but my ink is still not recognized :| what should i do?

These ink cartridges are a pain in the ass. Hardly anybody can figure out how to get them in and get them recognized. I am "attempting" to put a new one in today. As you can guess it's not going well or I wouldn't be on here.

7: Press and HOLD RESUME for two seconds or more and release it.

Take out the cartridge head assy. There should be a plastic lever that unlatches it. Fill a shallow dish with hot water and dunk the head in it and swish it around a bit.

I just posted the last message. If you have refilled you cartridge just recently and have tried everything, well here is something to try that will work!!!

Yes ok go ahead and do this step... this will stop the ink empty warning from coming up:

1. Click on the start menu
2. Go in to Control Panel
3. Click on Printers and Faxes
4. Right click on your printer (Canon IP1600)
5. Go down to properties
6. Then click on maintenance

Step 2 - Click on ‘View Printer Status…..’

Step 3 - Click on Option

refilled ink cartridges.

printer will flash. To continue printing, simply press the button and click the close button on the
warning (marked X).
You may need to do this a few times also run the printhead alginment page after.

But then I want you to take the plugs out of the top of the cartridge and run them without them in it, inside the printer, only if applicable with your printer. (do not turn upside down or else you will see a mess!!) The plugs make almost like a vacuum when they are put in, and do not let any liquid ink out when trying to print. Just think of when you are pouring gas out of a full gas can. You have a little hole at the back of the can which allows air to get into the container without leaking, which then allows the gas to come out of the gas can. It all makes sense to me now!! haha.. try that should work wonders!!

Don't ask me if you have to put the plugs back in but hey works for me for now. I am going to put them back in after a few days. Not sure if the ink will dry up.

hi... im paul of philippines

my cl-41 cannot be recognized by my ip1200. i just replaced it temporarily with an older cartridge for printing on scraps and when i plugged it back in, the printer does not recognize it anymore.

what do you think is the problem and what should i do?

thanks guys...

You have probably got a little bit of dry ink or muck on the contacts at the back of the cartridge. Try gently rubbing the contact strip with a mixture of water and ordinary rubbing alchohol until they look clean and shiny. This should cure it.

Take out both the cartridges and clean the sides and all the other areas with a cloth or tissue paper. Then put the ink cartridge back inside and this should work.

You can use a damp cloth on the parts that does not dispense the ink. But if the ink is not dry then tissue paper will do the job.

I cleaned cartridges with this method and worked fine for me:
1- remove the green cover of the cartridge
2- remove sponges and clean all with hot water (cartrdige and sponges) until you dont have ink in any part
3- use alcohol to remove water and dry cartridge
4- then you can refill cartridge and use it

I have a Canon iP1600. I have purchased Canon printers because they are cheap but you get what you pay for. In all three cases they worked great for about 6 months...then nothing but troubles. The current iP1600 has had ink fade for about 3 months. The ink comes out grey. It is an ink refill cartridge. The colour seems to run out after only a few uses. I also have issues with the print head alignment. Printout shows misaligned heads; I have utilized the cleaning and re-aligned via the program but it doesn't work. I have begun to take apart the printer to see if there is a print head cartridge (that the ink tubs sit in)...don't see one? I was going to soak it in alcohol but I cant find it. Can anyone advise how to align the heads and clean the clogged ink so it is like brand new? If I have to take this in for repair it wont be worth it. That is why I ended up buying my current Canon as the other one did the same thing and it would have cost me a lot to repair. I swear Canon does this on purpose. Don't buy a Canon!

by Anonymous on Aug 10, 2009 at 10:02am Add comment
guys these cartridges pain in pocket and ass hehehe...

but i have something you should try...

when you have the two brand new or re-manufactured cartridges, before you install it make a small hole over each color absorber pad
3 small hole for CL-41 and 1 hole for PG-40.

When you ran out of ink, lift the cover then the heads sets to the left side or to the change position. Remove the power cord and do not remove the cartridges just move the head to right side or to the center and there, you refill the cartridges and avoid the spills. be careful that you've refilled the right color on each hole otherwise you will mix the color.

Plug the printer cord after finishing the refill and do the nozzle check.

With this procedure you won't suffer cartridge not recognized because you did not remove the cartridge from the printer. when ink level says low just press the print cancell button for 5 seconds or more.

To avoid waste ink pad full drill on the back of your printer and take out the small white hose do the catheter method.

I had the same problem. My computer said my printer was out of ink but it wasnt. I went to my control panel and deleted the Canon Printer. Restarted my computer. Unplugged my printer and plugged it back in. Then I hooked the printer back up to my computer and it automatically reinstalled the software. Then I went to options and turned off the enable status option. It worked then.

I think you can overcome this problem by :

1. First take the catridge out.
2. Turn OFF the printer.
3. Remove the USB cable.
4. Refill the catridge.
5. Place the catridge in printer.
6. Plug the USB cable.
7. Turn ON the printer.
