hp officejet 7130 by trouble (7/27/06 4:36 PM) reply + / -
My officejet 7130 is minutes away from getting thrown out of the window!!! Wondering if anyone has experience the following:
I was printing color pages (about 30)when on my screen it read ""BAD PRINTHEAD", replace black (pantagon)print head. Press ENTER to continue.
I looked at the printheads & have tried the water solution w/no results.
What else can I do??? Any answer greatly appreciated.

There's nothing wrong with your printhead. The nozzles could be clogged (especially if this has been proceeded by an "IDS Failure" message) or the electrical contacts might be dirty.

Water just does'nt work once the ink has dried hard. Try blotting on a paper towel soaked with Windex. You may have to let it soak in overnight. If that does'nt work use straight household amonia. As a last resort, Clorox Bleach will remove the ink no matter how hard it is, but don't bleach too long or it will dissolve other parts of the printhead as well. Heat will help, but I would not exceed 180 deg F.

The contacts on the printhead and in the carriage must be incredibly clean!!!!! Same for the ink cartriges. Polish them with a cotton swab and 99% isopropyl alcohol. Then clean with compressed air.

One question on your response. When you say soak in it, do you mean to actually pour a bowl of windex, and drop the whole print head in the bowl, submerged? I think that's what you mean, but I want to make sure before I do that.

I have replaced the black print head. It worked great for awhile, then I started having the black ink seem to dry out if the printer sits not used for awhile. Always is dried out if it sits overnight. If I run the clean print head maintenance routine from the menu it works fine until it sits and is not used again.

Any ideas? I am not getting any error messages but, I am running a generic ink cartridge from 123inkjets.com.
