A little searching, forum not soul, may just reveal more...

 | Solution, psc 750 scanner failure by proudpapa (1/15/07 2:09 PM) reply | + / - | Just ended an online chat with HP service (amazing thing...). I have had the same challenge (scanner failure, nothing seemed to help).
My printer/scanner was plugged into a power strip/surge protector. The online technician had me unplug it from the surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet.
It worked (from front panel and HP director).
The tech said it is probable that there was not enough power to heat the bulb properly.
Hope this helps. If not, go to HPs site to seek an online tech. Worked for me!

 | Re: hp psc 750 scanner failure by moe (1/15/07 2:33 PM) reply | + / - | Calling those people you talk to on the phone "techs" is an insult to us real techs. They aren't techs. The only thing they've ever done with printers is load them with paper. They read from a script. The smart ones will check this site for their answers. The whole printer might draw an astonishing 40 watts at full power draw. To even suggest that the power strip would be responsible (unless you have a 1500 watt heater plugged into it) is about the dumbest thing I've heard this year. Chalk it up to coincidence. HP "tech" support hasn't ever fixed anything for anyone, unless it was by accident.

 | Re: hp psc 750 scanner failure by Randy Hendricks (1/16/07 7:21 PM) reply | +2 + / - | While searching for anything on the subject of "scanner failure",(my unit happens to be a hp d135), I happened upon the above thread. My problem first revealed itself by my computer and printer stalling and then permanent failure when trying to scan documents to the computer. I worked around it until it developed into a nearly constant "scanner failure" readout. I cannot copy from the bed while in this mode. I have to reboot the printer as often as necessary until the message disappears and I can dial out a fax or scan to copy. However, scanning to the computer has never worked since the initial failure. Are we talking about the same things, gentlemen, and does the particular hp model differ with the repair or remedy?

 | Re: hp psc 750 scanner failure by Somebody (6/30/07 11:33 AM) reply | + / - | It is hard to imagine, but power can be an issue for the psc 750. 'moe' is saying that it is the dumbest thing he has heard this year, but plugging it directly in the wall also solved my problem (scanner defect / scanner failure)!

 | Re: Re: hp psc 750 scanner failure by Anonymous (6/30/07 12:18 PM) reply | + / - | Thanks for your comment. I do have ours plugged directly into the wall and it still happens. When it does I unplug it and turn the computer off and when I reboot and plug the psc 750 back in again it usually works for at least a few hours.

 | Re: hp psc 750 scanner failure by rickallwells (8/5/07 1:35 AM) reply | + / - | I have tryed it plugged into a splitter and directly into the wall. I have tryed to scan from computer, from psc, and from fax or to fax. I tryed it on one foot and with green eggs and ham. It stil says scanner failure. I would gladly clean the underside of the glass and any other trick ya'all can think of. It just says turn off scanner and then turn it on again. I cannot be alone here someone has found a fix for this, right?

 | Re: hp psc 750 scanner failure by Jakeymoncha (12/29/08 4:01 AM) reply | + / - | I had the same "scanner warming up" and "scanner failure" errors on my 750 all-in-one. I've had the printer a number of years and it has always performed well, but over the last year, I've been pestered with these errors more and more frequently. I tried all the "Fred Sanford" remedies of banging on the side, shaking it, reseting it, powering down, and cleaning the glass. But recently it refuses to work at all. I followed some advice I found here and did an extra "DEEP" cleaning of the mirrors and glass reflectors in the scanner unit and BINGO! IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED WORKING AGAIN JUST LIKE NEW! I only did it about an hour ago, so hopefully the problem wont return, but I doubt that it will. This thing hasn't worked so quickly in over a year.
Now, I won't lie, the mirrors were very tricky to get apart. They are housed in a plastic module (the unit that moves under the glass when you scan/copy). The unit has a plastic cover that is snapped into place. Under that, the mirrors are held in place with metal spring clips. Once you are in there, and have the scanner unit completely unplugged from the printer and in your hands, get something small and pointy under the clips to GENTLY pry them up. Once the upper mirrors are out, you can get to the lens and the bottom mirror fairly easily. Take your time and clean them well with a clean, soft cloth, then re-assemble (much easier-everything just snaps together). Put the mirrors back in the way they came out. Avoid finger prints by holding the edges of the glass. Hopefully your unit will be happy again too.
Honestly, it is such a shame to throw away a perfectly good printer (which is what I was ready to do) just because of a slight haze of ultra-fine dust on two mirrors the size of pop-sickle sticks. If you feel the same way about wastefullness and our throw-away society, goggle "The Story of Stuff" it's really eye-opening. Good luck.

Thanks for your solution. It worked for me. I really appreciate it. I was at the point to throw it away... Now I saved some bucks on a new one and it's scanning as never before.
Greetz Sven.
