Here's one of the solutions HP suggests:

Problem

The print cartridge contacts are dirty and the printer does not recognize the print cartridge.

Solution

1. Open the top cover of the printer.

2. Remove the print cartridges.

3. Clean the copper-colored contact points on the cartridges with a damp, lint-free cloth. (Distilled water is recommended. Tap water might contain contaminates that could damage the cartridge.)

NOTE: Do not wipe the nozzle end of the cartridge or touch the silver-colored nozzle plate on the bottom of the cartridge.

4. Turn off the printer.

5. Unplug the power cord from the printer.

6. Clean the carriage contacts on the back wall of the ink cartridge carriage with a damp, lint-free cloth.

7. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to remove the moisture from the contacts. If the carriage contacts show noticeable damage, have your printer serviced.

8. Plug in the power cord.

9. Try printing again.

Replace the cartridge.

Are you using a HP driver, or a generic driver that came with windows?

Sometimes a HP driver gives you more information when their is a problem.

I just noticed on the nozzle of the color cartridge that there is ink running down it on the inside. You know like when your turn it on its side you can see the ink running down the clear plastic part of the nozzle. Could this be my problem?

Hi there !
I'm hoping that there might be some help to be found here. I have a slightly used HP deskjet 630c printer. I'm having a problem getting her to print. The printer starts and as soon as the paper is fed to the top of the roller it stops and the "paper feed" light starts blinking (power light is on constantly). I have followed the advice of the other posts here and taken the printer apart and cleaned the slide bar the cartidges ride on and the black rubber rollers. Also sprayed some canned air under the black feed sensor. Still with no luck. I have installed two brand new HP cartridges also. I'll close by adding that I am doing this on a win2k machine using a USB port (had same results using parralel as well). Any advice / help (besides,.."throw the thing in the dumpster", is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Mike
