 | HP clj 3700 halftone error by GNCprintergirl (2/28/06 1:47 PM) reply | + / - | I have an HP color laserjet 3700 that has suddenly started having a serious print quality issue. All output is faded, some colors more seriously than others. The error log has 54.30 .08 .07 .06 and .05 errors. It also says "Halftone calibration error." The service manual says that this indicates "data out of range" on all the colors. As directed by the manual, I did a "calibrate all," which did improve the output somewhat. The "Print Quality Troubleshooting Procedure" shows defects in all the colors, although the cyan and yellow are definately the worst - especially on the right-hand side of the paper. I've changed the cyan cartrige and reseated all the cartriges.

Plenty of Halftone Calibration errors 05 & 08, and a few density out of range errors. We have three of these and the when I print to the other two the quality is much better. Help! Thanks

If the yellow and cyan are light on the right side and the black and magenta are light on the left side that is an indication of the issue. You will need to contact an authorized hp service provider as they have the ability to take care of the issue for no charge even if out of warranty if the issue is caused by this contamination.

Since I got problems like above two week ago I tried following any action that manual book suggested but the problem exist so
I thought hard every day, did my best problem analysis and also searched on the internet but no one can resolve this. finally
5 days ago I conclude all analysises then I decided to clean up the scanner beam unit (all mirrors and lens).
ahha.. no my printer is back on the job...
*** So I suggest you all to try cleaning up all mirrors and lens in the scanner beam unit ***
of course my resolution not exactly suitable for your own printer as it's depend on some condition.
Here I describe some thing as your references so you can decide whether you should clean the laser beam unit or no:
Dirty or dusty mirror and also lenses would decrease (even it can block) a laser beam intensity so the image that drawed on the drum is thiner/worst than the original pattern sent by printer's Formatter -as we know, this printer will do Image Stabilization Control every time it turned on or every Calibration command executed- during this process it will draw Reference Pattern on it's ITB to be checked by color misregistration sensor (PS12). If this reference pattern is worst than it should be, the sensor would return Density sensor out of range (54.11/12/13/14.00) and Halftone calibration error.
However this error could caused by defected sensor PS12, but if so event log will report a error on all cartridge (54.11, 54.12, 54.13 and 54.14, 54.30.05, 54.30.06, 54.30.07 and 54.30.08) not some of all.
other thing you should consider is the environment, amount of dust that could enter to the printer as this printer has no front lens cover. to make you sure I think not difficult enough to open the back cover, etc then take a look whether the lens in the scanner beam unit are dirty or not.

That's what DMZ said.
But since in the US HP will pay for a technician to repair the machine, and send the needed parts free, it's a bad idea for someone to disassemble and clean their own laser/scanners.
You may be in the US, I can't tell from your post where you are, but If I'd advise anyone with this problem to see if the repair is free in whichever country they are in before they risk causing damage that might cost money to fix.

If you are in the US, then Please tell there's one thing I really want to know. Why you did not take advantage of the free repairs? (The free repair would include a new Laser/Scanner.)

 | Re: HP clj 3700 halftone error by ONCBON (4/15/08 3:56 AM) reply | + / - | Hi All, I know this is a very old thread but I have encountered this issue several times. HP does not provide free repair in all countries. In Europe, customers just have to pay the full fees to get this fixed.
As Abu describes above, the only solution to do this yourself is to take the printer apart and clean the mirrors and lens with a Q-tipp. Blow away dust before your close the printer and you might end up with near perfect print quality again. Don't start this job if you don't feel comfortable 'undressing' the whole printer and taking out the scanner beam unit.
