 | minolta magicolor 2300 by ryanbuglia (2/2/06 6:31 AM) reply | + / - | hi, i work for a copy repair/hp repair shop. someone brought me a minolta magicolor 2300 that keeps saying waste toner full. the tank is empty, i vaccumed it, cleaned the cut-ins that fit around the sensor and cleaned the sensor. is there a reset procedure or does the customer just need to suck it up and buy a new waste toner tank?

 | Re: minolta magicolor 2300 by Lynn Voyles (edited 6/23/06 5:28 PM) reply | +1 + / - | We have experienced the same waste toner tank reset problems with the Epson Aculaser C900/1900 series printers (Same printer as the Minolta Magicolor 2300). Even if you clean the tank the printer will not sense the empty tank as being new. An optical sensor is used to determine the level of the toner in the tank. It seems that a tacky coating inside the tank, in the optical sensor read zone, coats with toner when the tank becomes full. Even if you clean the tank, the toner that sticks to this coating will not come off and blocks the light from going through the plastic to the optical sensor receiver.
We have resorted to using a small utility knife to cut two small squares, about 1/4 inch square, in the plastic toner tank. These square hole were cut to align with the center of the two part optical sensor. We then sealed the square holes with clear scotch tape. The light will go through the tape and the printer will sense a new tank has been installed. When the waste tank is again full, clean the waste toner from the tank and then replace the tape.
We have also experience several OEM waste toner tanks that reported full when they were actually only about 1/2 full. This was from waste toner on the sticky coating blocking the optical sensor. If this also happens with the modified tank - just change the tape and continue printing until the tank is full.
Note: Cleaning the waste toner tank can be messy, unheathy and the waste toner needs to be disposed of properly. You should not try cleaning this waste toner tank unless you know what precautions to take with fine particle toners, have the proper safety equipment and have waste toner disposal procedures established that meet local regulations.

I suspect that the black toner is being excessivly used and the waste is going straight into the waste tank. The printer has been serviced about 3 months ago. Any ideas on why the waste tank is filling so much?

 | Re: minolta magicolor 2300DL by patwwjd (9/30/07 4:07 PM) reply | + / - | I have a 2300DL. Print started with very bad vertical streaks. I cleaned toner piled up under toner carriage and got better. Now I have a white vertical streaks at about one third and two thirds position on page. I pulled the OPC unit, but cannot see anything causing this. Can anyone tell me where to go next? I took a picture of page, but do not see how I can post picture.
