Epson CX5400 - reconnected waste tube.

Epson CX5400 - reconnected waste tube. by Kyle- (11/13/05 7:33 AM) reply + / -
Hi all,
Following advice here, and the inkjetprinterhelp.us page, I reconnected the waste ink tube on my CX5400. When the unit was apart, I also used a syringe to clean the tube itself, as there was dried ink in that tube as well. Now, upon putting the printer back together, I printed the nozzle check pattern. I got a choppy pattern. No problem, I thought, it's been sitting and needs to be cleaned. Cleaning now produces blank pages. I let it sit overnight, and tried some prints. I got some streaks of color - enough to make out what was being printed, but not acceptable results. So, I tried to use the "Charge" function of the SSC service utility. The printer stopped and gave me "Printer Error" with a solid red light. Turned off, turned on, this time I removed the cartridges and put them back in - and the printer charged them. Still get blank pages. I check the tube again this morning - it IS connected.

What can I do?

By the way, has anyone filed a class-action suit against EPSON yet for design fault?

Thanks,
Kyle-

I think somebody SHOULD file a lawsuit against Epson. The damn tube got disconnected again on me and when I reconnected it and put everything back together, the printer started to jam constantly. This printer is a piece of garbage. Once the tube comes off, you can put it back in place, but it will come back off again. Each time you take the printer apart, you are bending the cables and wearing them out. I'm sick of messing with this piece of crap! The ink is expensive as well. The whole ink delivery system is flawed. These printers should last longer than a year!

Just reconnecting the tube is not enough. The reason it comes loose is that it is clogged at the discharge end. The pressure pops it off. You'll have to follow it down to where it enters the waste pad area and clean the hardened ink from the pad and the tube.

Moe,
Thanks for your response. I hadn't seen that. When I disassembled the printer, I took a syringe and squirted water down the small tube that the larger tube connects to - near the waste ink pad. If you've ever taken one of these apart, you know what I mean. I'll have to take this apart MORE and see what I can do.

Thanks.

Clint,
I agree. Something should be done.

Well, I just got off the phone with an EPSON customer service representative, and she said the both the CX-5400 AND CX4600 had been replaced and redesigned due to their design flaws. This isn't supposed to happen with the new ones, but that kinda leaves those of us with 5400's up the creek without a paddle.

Hmm, class action still sounds kinda good. Anyone?

For the price of a lawsuit, we could get another printer from HP which actually works! Heck! We could get a couple of them with a year's supply of ink! If you can find a cheap way of doing this, drop me an e-mail. psychobunny@excite.com

I couldn't find any contact information on Epson. What customer service did you contact? I went to their website and all I could find was a website for the Epson store. Do you have a phone number and address for the company itself? I'd like to have a word with them. Maybe a FEW words. Okay. I'll try to leave out the 4-lettered words. I'm really pissed at them. Their site purposely leaves out the contact information for the company itself. I'm gonna file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Hey, I've done this before and I've gotten results. I had some spyware on my computer and I contacted the company directly and demanded they tell me how to take it off. Maybe we should all be a little more proactive here. A class lawsuit would be too expensive.

You should all go to HP. That company does not have a 1 yesr warranty and does not even make replacement parts for some on their low end models. Just search and you see for yourself.

Clint,
You have to go to the support area, and then select your model of printer (i used Multi-fuction, then Stylus CX-5400) In the resulting page for your printer, there will be a contact number - call it. When you finally TALK to someone who asks for your serial number, ask for customer service. Nothing to do with the printer.

Be sure you mention that yes the redesigned the printer, but what about the victims of the design fault? They obviously recognized the design fault, because they made a new printer. However, what about you and all the other people with the faulty printers? Let them think about that one.

good luck.

FYI, I have an epson support contact number, it is for the Epson call center , 562-276-4382, I think it redirects to a general support, then you select promtps and go from there.

GL

PS>anyone have some helpful advice on assembly/disassembly of the Epson CX4600 to service the ink waste pads?

Thanks

Had an Epson CX5400, got clogged up, found 8000 posts (no exaggeration) about the same problem, got no satisfaction from tech support or customer service. Piece of crap.
Switched to HP, happy since.

epson printers are crap! i personally bashed four of them with an axe to relieve my frustration. the CX5400 that i currently own was a craigslist freebee which i use only for the scanner. i then found another one by the side of the road being trashed. i took it apart and noticed that clogged hose and realized that's the prob but i don't want to waste life on this POS getting it working. PHUUCCK EPSON
