 | Brother MFC 420CN Error Code 50 by skints (11/9/05 8:18 PM) reply | + / - | Does anyone have experience of Error Code 50?
In attempting to resolve a "Cannot clean the print head" problem with Brother Tech Support I eventually got an Error Code 50. I was told that it was a print head problem and that I should take the machine to the local service centre.
The immediate response from the service centre was that even though the printer is less than a year old, and no matter what else was involved with the repair, I was going to have to pay for a full set of Brother cartridges to replace the existing remanufactured/refilled set.
Is this reasonable or is it just an excuse to sell some of their expensive ink cartridges?
Furthermore they claim that my warranty has been voided becuase of "the use of consumables or supplies that are non-Brother products" In the US this excuse is illegal under the Sherman-Clayton Act - does anyone know what the situation is in Canada?

I am sure that for most of you these are real printer problems caused by bad print heads from Brother. But a lot of you have to understand that NO, NO, you are not suppose to use remanufactured inks in these machines. It is not just Brother, all of them HP, Canon, who ever will tell you, that you have to use there inks or your warranty will be voided. Come on folks you have to do what there instructions tell you. I can get Brother inks for 11.99 at staples for the colors, and 21.99 for the black. That is the reason i am buying this printer. HP color cartriges are like 35 bucks for most of them and when i run out of ink in an HP, 35 bucks on payday on what i make don't get it. If anyone out there can tell me where i can get a printer with the features that the Brother MFC 420cn has for a 100 bucks i will certainly go cancel the lay-a-way and buy it, but i have'nt found it.
