 | Epson 1280 color calibration by Erin (9/22/05 9:53 PM) reply | + / - | I am a photographer and use my Epson 1280 printer for printing portfolios and photos but every photo I print comes out red. I need to color balance my printer to make it print colors normal and not red and am wondering if anyone knows any ways to fix this problem.

 | Re: Epson 1280 color calibration by Anonymous (9/25/05 7:50 AM) reply | + / - | This is a persistent problem. The issue is that two color management systems are adjusting the colors when only one should be. If you are printing from Photoshop, you need to be sure that you are doing one of two things. Always print from the "print with preview" selection on the File menu. Under the Color Management drop down box select "Let Printer Determine Colors" This assumes that the printer driver will do the color processing. When you go to print and click on "Properties", you can select one of the built-in Epson options like automatic, etc. The other way is to disable the printer driver color management by navigating to the "advanced" tab in the Epson properties dialog and select "no color management". Then you have to go back to the Print with Preview dialog in Photoshop and select "Let Photoshop Determine Colors". Then you need to select a printer profile that is specific to your printer, ink and paper combination. Various websites provide these for free. The first option gives the color steering wheel to the printer driver, the second gives it to Photoshop. The red problem comes when you let both try to grab the wheel. Also, always visit the Epson site and download and install the latest driver. Good luck.

 | Re: Re: Epson 1280 color calibration by harrisdiamant (11/11/06 8:07 AM) reply | +1 + / - | I'm a photographer, and have been using an Epson 1280 and an IMac G5 to print my images, with satisfactory results, for about 2 years. A couple of months ago, toward the end of a job that involved 350 eight by ten prints, the prints began taking on a distinct, unpleasant red hue. I've always used the colorsynch setting and the results (although certainly not currently) have been splendid. I do regularly use after market ink (with fine results) but in an attempt to correct this problem, I tried true Epson cartridges. The Epson ink did not improve performance. I tried all of the suggestions you posted, but again---no improvement. I'd buy a new Epson 1280 if I was absolutely convinced that the problem resides in the old printer rather than in my computer or a cable or some other place I'm oblivious to. Do you have an opinion about after market ink? I've been paying about $6.00 for a pair of after market ink cartridges as opposed to $48.00 for a pair of Epson cartridges. Even with having to prematurely replace the printer (currently about $300) the economics make the after market inks a true bargain I'd appreciate your thoughts here.

 | Re: Epson 1280 color calibration-red lines by Ed Bullinger (5/13/09 10:04 AM) reply | + / - | I have never had good results with my Epson 1280 Printer and unfortunately need it for a job that I am doing. It prints red lines throughout the page (horizontal). It continues if the print is black and with color or with an image printed on photo paper in color.
I sent it into Epson when it was under warranty to fix this problem. They fixed it. It worked for a very brief while and resume the problem (beyond warranty period). Is there anything that can be done to correct this problem short of sending to repair at Epson? I have always used Epson Inks. Nozzle check looks great and alignment head cleaning are in order. When I asked the guy what a repair like this would cost if the printer was not under warranty he told me more than repairing is worth.
I see that the 1400 has dropped considerably in price but for this one project it is still hard to justify the purchase.
