My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by needshelpwithprinter (8/26/05 12:20 PM) +18 + / -
I recently replaced the ink cartridges in my Epson CX4600, and now it will not print, all that comes out are blank pages. I have cleaned the nozzle heads many times now and still nothing, only lost about half of my ink by doing that. If anyone knows what can fix this problem, then please let me know. any help will be appreciated.

Many of these printers in this range got blocked up waste ink tubes, which requires stripping down, unblocking etc. If you are tech minded it's easy, if not... call one!

HI i have the same problem. During the summer, the printer stopped working and it said that it was low on ink. So i didn't used the printer until yesterday after I bought new ink cartridges. However, after replacing the old ones with the new ones, an error message saying that the new cartridges are running out of ink and all it does is print blank pages. I couldn't figure it out. Now, it's not even printing. Any suggestions? I open up and manage to glimpse the tube, and I can see residues of ink in it, could it be because the tube is clogged up, that's why it's messing up the whole printer? Please, any suggestion would be trully appreciated.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (9/17/05 1:20 PM) + / -
In the process of stripping my printer, I have the whole top free except for the control panel side. Does any one know how to get it free as it appears the board is attached? I want to check and clean the waste tube. Thank you.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by needshelpwithprinter (9/17/05 4:14 PM) + / -
i could get all of the top unscrewed and all, but how can you get the scanner top part off beside the control panel thing? or can you?-thanks for any help

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by babu (9/20/05 10:21 AM) + / -
Class action lawsuit anyone? Epson wont even acknowledge that there is a problem, and im out $50 in ink, and havent printed a single page out of this printer, yet alone figured out what the problem is so I might be able to print something using this crap.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Kavey (9/20/05 8:38 PM) + / -
Class action only benefits the lawyers, paying money to fix this printer is not worth it, and I just bought $55 worth of Epson ink. How do I fix this problem?

Here is a tech free solution to the blank page problem.

Go to the nearest computer store and buy a new CX4600, take it home and unpack it, move the ink from the non-functional printer to the new printer and keep the starter cartridges for your trouble, then return the non-functional printer with the packaging from the new printer you just purchased. Problem solved... and if enough people start returning printers saying "this printer won't print, I want my money back" Epson just might "recognize" the problem.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by dumbluck (9/22/05 2:40 AM) +1 + / -
Our Epson did the same thing just two days ago. My husband got online and found all your messages. Sounds like Epson DOES have a big problem with this printer. Anyway, I banged around on ours and got it working. Here is what I did.

I turned the printer off. Took out all the ink cartridges. Then I took some cotton swabs and peroxide and began wiping all the ink heads within the black cartridge holder area. I wiped them down really well until all the ink was gone. Then I took a sewing needle and began sticking it down into each ink head, into as many of the little holes as I could. Then I actually took my screw driver end and banged around "a little" on the cartridge holder and down near the botton just to try and loosen some of the gunk. I let it dry about 5-10 minutes and then I put all the ink cartridges back in. Then I test printed a document and everything worked.

I could have been just lucky but give it a try and see what happens. Or you could just buy a new printer, take out the new cartridges, put the ones you just bought in and save the new ones for later. Since printers are so cheap, it makes for a good argument why we don't just buy a new printer everytime.

Anyway.... GOOD LUCK !

Mine works fine for a few days and then if it is idle for a couple days I have to clean heads. Often cleaning them several times.

I'm going to try your technique this weekend.

Thanks

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (9/22/05 7:33 PM) + / -
Thank you so much for the idea about cleaning the printer heads meticulously!!!! It worked for me!

Just the same, I'm thinking of writing a letter to the President of the company! I can't believe how many people have this same rediculous problem!!!

Thanks again. kay

I have the same problem. Changed the cartridges and now it won't print. I will try the cleaning with q-tips. I have also emailed epson tech support. I will be interested to see what the official fix is.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by printerboy (9/27/05 4:31 PM) + / -
I talked to tech support. They are sending out a new printer. The tech guy said there is something wrong with the printer. This problem must be becoming more prevelant. I didn't have to demand a new printer or anything. I was prepared to demand some free ink since 40% was used up following the directions on the epson troubleshooting site.

FWIW, I tried cleaning the print head area with alchol and that did not help.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Rachaelo (10/2/05 5:56 AM) + / -
I tried cleaning my printer nozzles with alcohol, but all I still get is a blank page. I just bought alll new ink, and the crazy printer is still not working. can anyone help me?!?!?!?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by epsonsucs (10/4/05 1:17 AM) + / -
My epson sprayed me in the face with black ink, it covered the entire printer my glasses and clothing. I just opened up the top lid to the printer to see why the damn thing wasnt printing and the right side of the acted like it was cleaning the heads, but the ink carriage moved to left and the rest is history. I am seriously pissed off!!!!! I have already written an email, and will call in the morning, but this is not the first time my 4600 has crapped out, there is obviously something wrong with this product, I never know if its going to print or fail, very unreliable. Lately all I had been getting was blank pages even after new cartridges. What should all of us do?????? I'm sure there are thousands of us.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (10/5/05 8:45 AM) +1 + / -
Don't waste your money on new ink cartridges.
I also called epson service at (562-276-4382) and they are sending me a new printer. It will be another cx4600, unfortunately with new inks cartridges. Prepaid return shipping of defective unit.

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (10/6/05 6:51 AM) + / -
I called the 562-276-4382 and they are going to send me a replacement. You have to give them a credit card number, they will put a charge on until they receive your old unit back. Other than that there was no charge.

I had the same problem with C80 but a epson rep told me they had fixed these problems and I like the cx4600 so much I decided to give epson another try.

Never again will I buy epson.

Re: Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (10/10/05 5:58 AM) + / -
Same here - I bought CX 4600 in November 2004, I had Epson replace it in May 2005 - same problem you all are experiencing. Now the replacement is printing blank pages again - with brand new cartridges installed. What a Joke!

Re: Re: Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by fuzzygoats (10/14/05 7:47 AM) + / -
I just got off the phone with Epson. They're sending out a replacement. They said to donate or toss the CX4600 I have now.

I asked if this replacement printer would have a modification to keep this from happening again. The reply was this is not a common problem that would indicate a design change was warranted. I was surprised he could say that with a straight face.

When I asked what I could do to keep this from happening again:

- Use printer one or twice a week and print in all colors.
- Make sure the printer is powered off when not being used

My last Epson printer was a MX-80. If the replacement printer goes belly up I doubt if I will buy Epson again.

A CX4800 was delivered today with a set of new ink cartridges. I can only hope the CX4800 is an improved version of the CX4600.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (10/21/05 2:17 PM) + / -
I can confirm all the above threads relating to the Epson CX4600.

I have a new CX4600 (not the same as the old one), the new one has PicBridge capabilities--cool!

Lessons learned: Print at least once a week (all colors); Try to revive my old printer using the "sewing needle" techique (since Epson says I can keep it (just there recent new policy, 10/05); Hopefully the new printer will last (own a HP930c for about 4 years or so); probably won't buy Epson ever again, even though my old printer was a gift!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Jazzer (10/23/05 8:30 PM) + / -
This is the second Epson I've bought that is doing exactly what you've all described. I have even gone at it with cotton swabs to no avail. I replaced my old 777i after it refused new "Epson brand" cartridges, and now my new CX4600 is doing the same thing.

I'm very, very disappointed in Epson and their lack of response to this issue. Keep those letters going! I'm sending mine tonight.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by BillyBrash (10/25/05 6:35 AM) + / -
My CX4600 no longer works, all lights come on and stay on. When it did work it went through ink like there was no tomorrow. An inexpensive unit to buy, but a costly one to keep supplied with ink. Very dissappointed. Can't even use the copy/scanner functions.
Billy.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by BillyBrash (10/25/05 7:07 AM) + / -
Just after posting the above, I contacted Epson support/warranty service and there is a new printer on the way.
Billy.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Corey (10/25/05 11:44 AM) + / -
My CX4600 is a piece of crap. Put brand new ink in and it won't print any color. Epson is supposed to be great at making printers, it's what they do. How could they go so wrong? and continue to sell this piece of shit.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by PeaceSpeaker (10/25/05 12:12 PM) + / -
This is the second Epson CX4600 that has had the same problems with not printing pages. This is also the second time that I will have received a replacement unit. The first replacement notified me that my printer parts had reached the end of life. What is Epson doing, building printers that are designed to fail after one year?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Link (10/26/05 7:14 PM) + / -
I had the same problems with my CX4600. I called Epson and told them the problem and received a new CX4800 within 3 days. I may give Epson another try.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by BlkManWalkin (10/28/05 1:24 PM) + / -
Seems to be a common thing. I called Epson last week about my cx4600. They were suppose to send me another one, but called today and it hadn't been shipped. That, and the CX4600 is no longer in stock (checked Epson's website and you can't find it listed anymore). They're sending me a cx4800 for a replacement. What's got me really ticked off right now is that I just spent $60 in cartridges for this thing. I'm tempted to find a store with this still in stock and do a switch-a-roo.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Karl Ayers (10/31/05 8:12 AM) + / -
My Epson CX4600 has done exactly the same thing--new ink and now blank pages are all that come out. I can't even get the pattern page to print. Many cleanings and many attempts. This looks like junk to me. Does anyone have a solution?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by chicagodude (10/31/05 10:24 AM) + / -
had the same problem starting few weeks ago, spent money on new catridge but still blank pages.. called epson and they are shipping cx4800...

anyone with problems please call epson and they will ship a replacement to you as long as u are in warranty.

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (11/2/05 7:16 AM) + / -
Call Epson tech support - there are known issues with this printer and blank pages. I just called and have an "upgrade" CX4800 coming to me free of charge. They just saved a customer. I was ready to toss this one and go back to Canon.

They want to keep you as a customer. They make their money off of ink sales - not hardware sales.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by husker mama (11/3/05 11:24 AM) + / -
Ditto all of the above with my CX4600, still under warranty. Received the CX4800 yesterday. I'm out the ink cartridges too. Won't be buying another Epson product!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by billy jo (11/4/05 7:44 AM) + / -
Same problem. Epson sent me a full set of cartridges to "troubleshoot" even if I've been troubleshooting since I bought the CX4600 last January. Now, the pattern page is completely blank. Epson is sending me a CX4800. I will give them credit, service is pretty good even if product is lousy.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by RyanH (11/6/05 3:11 PM) + / -
Hello y'all... My CX4600 is doing the same thing! Just bought new ink tonight, and it's still giving me nothing. Kinda angry, but I'll be calling Epson tomorrow, hopefully with the same results you guys have been having.

I do like Epson, and this is the first problem I've had with any of their products.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (11/8/05 1:02 PM) + / -
i tried to clean the heads ans it didnt work so i called tech support and was told that if i wanted to talk to someone i'd have to pay a fee of $9.95 what do i do?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by jazzer (11/8/05 10:10 PM) + / -
Epson promised me a replacement and I had to place a follow-up call when it never showed. They admitted to some kind of clerical error and promised it would be sent that day. Now I have a CX4800 and am hoping that they've sent me this model because the common problems we've all experienced with the 4600 have been addressed and corrected.

Does anyone have any feedback on the 4800 model so far? Have any similar problems occured on this "new and improved" machine?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (11/8/05 10:27 PM) + / -
Print a small picture once a week. The main cause of clogging is lack of use. Once the ink dried in the ink purge tube or in the print head it is much harder to get your printer working again.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (11/13/05 1:06 PM) + / -
This is not simply isolated to CX4600 printers, the same thing happened to my C82, I replaced the color cartridges and it stopped printing. I had to open it up and connect a vacuum hose that came off. Then it only printed in black ink, UNTIL I replaced the black cartridge. Now nothing at all. After this I'm never buying anything from espon, I've wasted $90 on these ink cartridges. I'm switching to HP.

I just bought a used CX4600, and are experiencing these problems.. is it possible for me to buy a new one, and switch it? i realize i will get no warranty, but i will get a new printer right... is there anything else that I can do? is there a way to get the updated, cx4800? just curious..

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Kyle- (11/15/05 6:34 PM) + / -
Hi All,
I had a different problem with a CX4600, but it was covered under warranty anyway. They sent me a new CX4800 (with direct Pictbridge - which is really cool). The lady from customer service that I contacted assured me that the cx4800 had been redesigned to eliminate any of the previous problems.

However, she offered no sympathy to those of us with other all-in-ones (like 5400's) that had the same problem, but she assured me the fault had been corrected.

Kyle-

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by stfxracer (11/15/05 7:28 PM) + / -
did you need the reciept and stuff when sending back the printer? because i have the printer, and the installation CD.. is that enough to send it back I wonder? does anyone know?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (11/15/05 10:46 PM) + / -
you dont need to send the 4600 back to epson, they just need your serial #

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by stfxracer (11/16/05 5:39 AM) + / -
thanks, so does that mean that they will still honor their warranty, just based on me having just the printer? maybe i'll just call them myself, thanks for the info:)

Same problem as you all disuss.. changed the black ink and it doesnt print anything during test page but the color emblems. Wasted remaining of the color inks trying to get the heads clean. Glad I saw this sebsite and the postings, I'll be calling Epson Monday morning.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (11/18/05 7:44 PM) + / -
We are so done with Espon!! We have had the problem ever since we bought the &&^^% thing. We were lucky to solve the problem with wasted ink and cleaning, now we are stuck. It has only been 15 months. Good luck everyone, we are so done with Epson.

----FIX----

I had the same problem as most of you- my 4600 was printing blank pages. What I did was I pushed down real hard on the cartridges, now it works fine.

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (11/21/05 4:12 PM) + / -
Why do you think this worked? Was it the cartridges, ink tubes, or did it loosen something up that was junked up?? How hard is "real hard" and where did you push?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by omega (11/21/05 5:06 PM) + / -
I am sure glad I found this page. I was having the same problems with it printing blank pages. I tried all the suggestions listed here with no success. I contacted epson at the phone # listed in the previous posts. I told them I had tried all the tests several times with no success. the representative spent about 20 minutes doing all the tests again to see if we could get it to print. well, with no success he told me I would receive a printer in the mail in the next 2-3 days. (1) I asked the rep. if he was getting alot of calls about this model. His response "YES". I bet he will catch hell for that...LOL (2) I asked if it would be the same model. I was told "NO". I would be getting the newer cx4800 with extra ink cartridges in 2-3 days. my advice just call the number so you dont waste anymore of your valuable time and thanks to everyone for there posts

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by stfxracer (11/21/05 6:45 PM) + / -
Thats exactly what I did and got the same results.. Thanks for making this post.. :)

Re: Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by John Ballantyne (11/22/05 4:46 AM) + / -
I think it needs to break the seal on the cartriges. I noticed there is a plastic covering on the bottom of all of them but it didn't come off easily so I didn't want to remove it myself. I assume that if you press firmly on the cartiges then it breaks the seal properly. Before I did this there was just ink building up on the plastic.

Hope this helps, good luck everyone.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by ShaneE (11/22/05 7:48 AM) + / -
Well I will say this for Epson... the customer service was nice and after seeing I went through all the steps, the CSR agreed I have a defective printer and a replacement is being sent out. I am glad mine broke during the warranty period. Best of luck to the rest of you.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by randygk (11/22/05 12:16 PM) + / -
I went through the exact same process with customer service, and they are sending out a CX4600. Again I will at least give Epson credit for accepting responsibility and standing behind their product by replacing them.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by bones (11/22/05 8:24 PM) + / -
I am glad I am not alone. I have mistakenly bought 2 cx4600 and enough ink to last a couple of years from costco... both have konked out with the same problems everyone has mentioned. I went out and bought an HP today. I certainly hope that this one is better. I will never buy another epson again.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (11/23/05 3:28 PM) + / -
I will let you guys know If the cx 4800 is any better after I use it for a while.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/1/05 10:21 PM) + / -
i had the same blank printing problem with my 4600. called epson on 11/23, gave them the serial number, told them that i repeated the cleaning head cycles several times (wasting ink) and they were in agreement that the printer was bad. they asked me if i had my receipt but i told them i didn't have it anymore figuring i would never need it. i told them i had bought the printer at officemax last december. presto, they sent me a 4800 and just got it 11/30. they told me to dispose of the 4600 locally. i figure i will try to see if i can revive the 4600. will repost on the quality of the 4800 and if i am able to fix the 4600.

note- i remember reading online somewhere never to leave the printer on when not in use since it may clog the printer... should have heeded the warning. i won't be leaving my 4800 on anymore.

btw, this will be my last epson... hp's seem to have a longer life.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/2/05 8:04 AM) + / -
Sometimes the ink feed pipe which connects to the cleasning station comes appart from underneath and needs reattatching this can get quite messy and awkward, good luck.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/3/05 11:42 AM) + / -
I was also told not to leave the printer on and to print at least a page every week or two to keep it working properly. they think this is an acceptable process. I have had many printers before and never had to do anything special to make it work properly.....

the cx 4800 I got on 11/28 has been working good so far. This will also be my last epson printer.

good luck with your printer

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/6/05 8:23 AM) + / -
Just called Epson (562-276-4382) and was told a replacement 4800 model will arrive within 5 days. Also learned that the new model takes different cartridges than the 4600. If your local retailer will not exchange any unopened cartridges you have, you can mail them to Epson, along with a reference number for your call to tech support, for an exchange.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by EpsonBGone (12/6/05 3:02 PM) + / -
Me too. Called the number on this page, the technician made me go through two more cycles of nozzle cleaning/nozzle check, then said he would send a new printer (CX4800). Since I just today purchased $65 worth of ink cartridges, I called Customer Service as well. They "made an exception" and are sending me a second set of ink cartridges (the printer comes with one set). I'm satisified, but I'm still out two afternoons of printing/testing/buying/replacing talking to Epson.

The CX4600 is clearly a known dog.

I had the same problem with my 10 month old CX4600 , I called epson and told them everything I had done they said they would send me a new one. There was no charge and no requirement to send back my old one , I received the replacement today , a CX4800.
I definately like epson support.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/12/05 4:58 PM) + / -
Same problem for me with my CX4600. It was a Christmas gift last year so I'm hoping that the person who bought it has a receipt. I'm also hoping he bought it closer to Christmas and the one year warranty is still good. This has been so frustrating but some how reassuring that others have experienced the same problem. I have always thought so highly of Epson, now I'm not so sure.

I'll post what happens!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/15/05 2:13 PM) + / -
Same symptoms; same printer. I called tech support, and they wanted to charge me $9.95 since they showed I was out of warranty. (It had been a little over a year since I bought it.) I rolled the dice and gave them my cc#. As expected, there was no way for them to fix it over the phone. (It helps speed things up if you mention all the troubleshooting steps you've already done, like head cleanings.) They refunded the $9.95 and sent me to customer service. Customer service said that even though I was slightly out of warranty, they'd send me a new one. As annoyed as I was to begin with, I now count myself thouroughly appeased.

Since I just installed brand new OEM ink cartridges, anybody know if there is any issue with transferring those over to the new printer?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/15/05 2:25 PM) + / -
My free replacement CX4800 arrived by purolator to-day - 2 days after my phone call. I'm very pleased but I don't think Epson should be refusing replacement to anyone - out of warranty or not. This is obviously a flawed model. Hope there are no problems with the 4800.

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/17/05 2:10 PM) + / -
Epson didn't. Read the post above.

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/17/05 3:11 PM) + / -
Looks like we all have the same problem with our 4600's. Perhaps we should start a twelve step support group (which is exactly how far it is to my balcony overlooking the dumpster below!).
Think of the possibilities! We could apply for 501(c) tax exempt status, receive generous donations from Epson, and tell our clients to "keep coming back....to Epson!" Eventually we could turn this whole experience into a full blown religion! Our church leaders could stand at the pulpit, waving blank papers in the air shouting "can't you see....cant you see!" We won't need a doctrine, as only the church elders (us) can read the invisible words on the church documents (printed on a CX4600, of course). Move over Jerry Falwell...the Epsonians are coming!

Hey Guys, thought I would let you know what I did to make this CX4600 work. I took the new cartridges out and cleaned the ink heads and surrounding area with q-tips and hydrogen peroxide (as suggested in previous post). I went through about 12 q-tips and the black print head was the one that required more cleaning. I left a hot lamp on the area to help it dry quicker, and then re-inserted the new print cartridges and charged the ink again. I printed out a Windows Test Page, and the black was working, but I had no blue or green in the Windows Flag. I was about to give up, and that's when I thought of the post I had read earlier about pushing down real hard on the print cartridges. I then removed all the cartridges again, and noticed that all of the cartridges (especially the blue cartridge) didn't have the small hole at the opposite end of the larger hole poked through. I believe that is an air hole. Rather than push down real hard (which doesn't work in my opinion), I opted to take a sharp pointed tool and poke a small hole in the cartridge at the end that should have a hole. You could use anything that is sharp and pointy like an icepick. (Hopefully you have something in your toolbox rather than using kitchen tools on your printer). I re-installed the printer cartridges, and printed a Windows Test Page, and the test page came out perfect. I'm not even sure if cleaning the ink nozzles was even necessary, but it didn't hurt to clean them, and maybe it was a combination of both that fixed it. My guess is (and I would appreciate hearing from those of you who got a replacement CX4800) that Epson put a sharper piercing point for the end where the cartridge air hole is. I noticed on my CX4600 that it is a small hard plastic stubby object. No wonder it wasn't piercing the air hole on the print cartridge! Good luck to all of you. Now to call Epson and ..... lol ;)

I have something to add to my last post. If you are successful in the above step, you might want to consider purchasing an Intellidge Chip Override device. They are about $20 on various websites and well worth it. I'm now glad that I hung on to all my old cartridges, because I'm resetting all of them. I shook the cartridges that the Epson Software told me were out of ink, and I hear plenty of ink splashing around inside of them. After reading some other internet websites and forums, I see that other Epson Users are equally frustrated about the Intellidge Chip as they are about the blank page problem. The resetting device is also required if you plan on using an ink refill kit for your Epson Cartridges.

i must say, i followed the advice and called...they took me through several tests, that ive already done on my own...they tried to blame the fact i had a generic brand cartridge but then decided it is a hardware problem..they are sending me out a replacement...yay...its nice to not be out $150 bucks...

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by jaykay (12/20/05 9:57 PM) + / -
Don't go through the hassle of trying to make this printer work. I had the same ink problem when replacing the ink cartridges and I called Epson, after finding the number on this site. At first the rep said it could be due to the generic ink, and I didn't argue with him. Said I would try Epson ink to see if that worked. Well, then he asked me to hold for a minute. When he came back on the line, he said they would be sending a new printer- the CX4800. He asked that the other printer be given to a recycling place. The new printer was FEDEX'D! It arrived three days after the phone call-WOW! And yes, I was also told to keep the printer off when not in use, especially overnight, and to run the printer once a week. It's kind of a pain, but the new printer is nice and works great! It's better than the other one :-). Gotta give kudos to Epson for doing the right thing.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Storm_J_300 (12/21/05 11:03 AM) + / -
I agree that you shouldn't go through the hassle if Epson is going to send you a new printer and you don't feel like dealing with it. I was only sharing my findings for those who didn't get rid of the CX4600, and wanted to try what I did. It only takes a couple of minutes to take out the ink cartridges and pierce a hole with a sharp pointy object in the opposite end where the ink comes out on all 4 of the cartridges, and I'll bet you will be surprised when the blank page problem goes away. The Anonymous post was obviously from someone who has issues with anyone who likes to help others solve problems. I would still like to hear back from anyone who has the newer CX4800 in regards to whether or not Epson redesigned the piercing point.

Hello to my fellow blank page printers. We too have had the exact same problem you all have been having. Our printer started having issues 6 months after we bought it. The head cleanings worked at first and then....nothing. We acutally haven't had time to deal with it for the past 4-5 months and in that time our warrenty ran out. But after checking out this site and seeing that so many others were having the problem and it must be a design issue and that on top of that everyone is getting new printers out of the deal we thought we would give it a try and call too. WE just got off the phone and they are sending us a new cx4800. We did have to speak to several people however, and it is Customer Relations that was able to help us with no problems at all. Hope those you with the cx4800 are have good luck with printing??

Merry Christmas!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/26/05 4:19 PM) + / -
I called CS ("customer service") this morning after several trouble shooting attempts(including replacing 2 new cartridges esp the expensive black double cartridge). (Originally, only the black cartridge needed replacing & everything else was ok. After replacement, only cyan/blue worked. After much testing, even that ran out & got replaced.)

Luckily today I saw a thread elsewhere that mentioned that epson had re-engineered (?) the ink cartridges rendering them incompatible with the older generation printers (does that mean it doesn't pierce the ink cartridge?). That spurred me to call Epson.

When I called CS, they told me our warranty expired (I agreed since I bought it @ Staples (with a coupon) online so that I had receipt history-Very handy trick when calling into different company's tech support's systems). I quickly mentioned I purchased w/my CC (looking straight at Staples receipt), thereby doubling my 1 year warranty - Woo Hoo - not out of warranty. The CS guy stopped putting up a fight (didn't hurt to mention that several of us trouble shot it, put in 2 new cartridges, plus asked about the re-engineered ink cartridges (why does it make them incompatible? (asked so innocently) I don't know Virginia? said Santa Claus.)

Well, CS tried to do another ink head cleaning - amazing - another blank page! He stated that he would be sending out a replacement - CX 4800 (come in 5 - 7 business days). Asked if different ink cartridges since I had just bought a set for my supply. Said that he would send me an extra set of cartridges & to send my printer to recycling.

We'll give it another try since I love the scanning & copy functions & works much better than our prior Lexmark.
Good luck to all

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (12/27/05 5:21 PM) + / -
Ditto, ditto, and ditto.

Light indicates I'm out of ink. I buy and install new black cartridge. All I get is blank pages. Try at least a half dozen cleaning cycles on the machine. Clean manually with cotton swabs and hydrogen peroxide. Poke holes in two of the cartridges (cyan and black) and THEN it tells me I'm out of cyan ink. Replace cyan cartridge just because I happen to have one. More cleaning cycles by machine. Nothing.

Call Epson at 562-276-4382. Pleasant conversation with Stephanie, who asks all the right questions even though we both know where this is going.

New printer should arrive next week, according to Stephanie.

Agree with many of the above that the product is a dud but the company is standing behind it and doing the right thing. Our first Epson printer (440) we bought years ago with the first generation iMac is still holding on, so we're 1-for-2 with Epson and won't write off the company just yet.

Add me to this growing list of frustrated CX4600 owners, who have added countless half empty ink cartridges to the landfills. I will take the forum's wise advice to contact Epson support to replace this printer with its "DuraDried" ink tubes. This product should be recalled. Thanks for your posts.

Same problem. Went through all 4 cartridges trying to clean and check nozzels, bought 4 new and now 1/2 empty on those. Got the yellow and blue but still no black and red printing. If the printer sits for a couple of weeks, it always needs cleaning. Waste of ink and time. Will never by an epson again.

I just got off the phone with Epson with the same problem mentioned in this thread. I am out of warrentee by about a month and the nice people at Epson are going to send me a re-conditioned CX 4800 to replace my CX 4600. My faith in Epson has been restored and I thought for their troubles they should get some "good press". They did mention that you should turn off your printer when not in use. This is something I never did before. Sometimes it's nice to see a company stand behind their products.

Regards,

Kevin

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by broach (1/11/06 2:13 PM) + / -
A few days ago I sent them some of the threads and suggested they come up with a solution or they will definately turn us all off on ever buying another epson product. I am still waiting to hear of a solution, maybe they will offer me the same deal. Thanks for sharing .

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by broach (1/12/06 4:59 PM) + / -
Just got off the phone with Epson the 3 solutions they offered me was

1.a rebate off a new printer (which would still cost me $130
2.a coupon for $60.00 in epson supplies or ink
3.a shipping label and repair with a 90 day warranty.

Don't think a repair will do any good as this has been an on going issue since it was bought new, but I certainly would not buy another epson, even at a disount, and don't have any need for the coupon to buy more ink since it won't print the ink it has in it now.
Would not offer a reconditioned 6600 or any other machine.
Will send it in and see what happens.

I found this website last night after having issues with my printer. And was gonna call the tech support but they are only opne m-f and I'm wondering if they will be closed on Mon for MLK Jr.

Did anyone else recently recieve only the 3 options???

If only I called them up last month:(

Broach, did they say why they could not just send you a new printer?

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (1/14/06 2:16 PM) + / -
I called Epson on 1/13/06. They are sending me a new printer, and they are not requiring me to send my CX4600 back. They suggested I take it someplace to recycle. I'm going to call them back and see if they will also refund the money I just spent on all the ink I just bought, before I read this list!

Also, I tried to clean the print heads, as suggested. Before, only black would print. Now, nothing prints! HA!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (1/14/06 4:22 PM) + / -
is the new printer a cx4600 or a cx4800?

is there something specific (besides the usual stuff)I need to say so that I don't get the three options someone else listed?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (1/16/06 8:46 AM) + / -
called today (01/16) and they will be sending a cx4800 this week. Very nice people on the phone. She said she would get me some new ink too...so I ask how much should i be expecting? she said one of each color (but that's what they usually supply you with) and so i'm kinda bummed about i'm not getting more considering how much i already spent.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Sledgehammer (1/23/06 7:21 AM) + / -
Anonymous;

Epson USA.

The printer arrived the next day Via FedEx!

A nice addition to the software is the Print from webpage toolbar; it has eliminated the cut-off pages that I get from the CX4600 and my HP G55 ofrficejet when printing content from webpages.

The CX4800 also has a port for camera downloading, besides the ports for flash cards.

Call epson customer service, tell them you changed cartridges, ran the print head cleaner numerous times from both the printer and the computer, and they will most definitely send you a brand new CX4800 with a complimentary ink set via fed ex- absolutely no questions asked. I was surprised how easy that really was for me, must be a serious problem at epson to be that easy to get a new printer.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by balls69bc (2/3/06 10:22 AM) + / -
Am I then only one who seems to be troubled by all of these Epson CX-4600 All-in-Ones ending up in the landfill (via the dumpster) when the underlying problem is probably relatively straight-forward to fix? -as evidenced by their oft-repeated suggestion to make sure you regularly print something using all four colours and to turn off the unit if you aren't going to be using it for some time (they told me 8-12 hours). This tells me they are suspecting a plugged print head/purge tube as the underlying cause of not being able to print. There is apparently also a small chance that the vacuum hose may have come off the bottom of the head.
Why doesn't Epson tell users what they believe to be the underlying problem and how those who are mechanically adept can fix it. I would much rather invest a little more time and do that than just throw it into the landfill (even if they are willing to give me a 'free' replacement). The fact that Epson doesn't even want your old unit back, tells you how much money they are making on the ink cartridges. I would also imagine that the actual amount of 'recycling' that would happen with your old unit will vary from place to place. We really do have to get away from this dispoable society of ours or we will suffocate in our own garbage and use up all of our resources.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (2/6/06 4:53 PM) + / -
Epson did not offer me a free printer, they offered $40 off the purchase of a new one either over the phone or internet, or they said they would repair the printer at no cost to me. It was the first time I had changed the ink and I got nada, so I called Epson and eventhough I'm about 2 months over my warantee they are sending me CX4800 with ink free of charge. The funny thing is the guy said he was sending me a upgraded version because they were out of the CX4600 when we all know those ones are junk and they must have stopped making them. I hope the guy who made the CX4600 isn't the same guy who made the CX4800.

Just an update on my earlier response, I finally got through and spoke to a Tech Rep. Because our 1 year warranty was expired by one month she offered us the three options they have offered some of the callers. I did not accept the three options and asked for the Customer Assistance number. She gave me the number and I spoke to Mary. I must say that Mary was very helpful and after learning that I am deployed to Kuwait and home for 2 weeks R&R and I would like to get this matter fixed before I have to go back, she offered to replace the 4600 with the 4800 model even though the warranty was expired. Kudos to Epson for their customer loyalty.

Well, I took the advice of others in this thread and called Epson Tech support. I gave them my 4600's s/n and they refused to talk to me unless I wanted to pay. Guess I'll just have to throw this thing away and get an HP. My unit was only out of warranty by a few months.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (2/23/06 2:37 PM) + / -
i just read these posts hoping to fix my cx4600 too (same problem, blank pages) and wasted lots of ink in the process. i first called, gave s/n and they said it was out of warranty so it would cost 9.95, but could email epson support for help. i did and they repeated same steps in troubleshooting, i.e. nozzle checks, cleans, replace ink. they said if this doesnt work, call back and tell them i emailed already and wont be charged the 9.95. i had done these steps numerous times already with no improvement, called cust service and after stating i purchased it mar. 5 2005, she sent me the cx4800, which i got today. actually purchased it at the end of december, but i rationalized lying by the fact that this same problem happened last summer and i wasted lots of ink, bought more and got it to work; if i would have called then about no print, i would have gotten the printer anyway. CX4600 is a terrible printer, but i will stick w/epson based purely on customer service. thanks to everyones posts!

take it from me
D O N O T I N A N Y C A S E U S E A N Y O T H E R C A R T R I D G E T H A N E P S O N "
============================================

Incredibly ignorant advice.

The guy above thinks everybody in this thread had used third party ink cartridges. Did you know it gets clogged no matter if you use Epson genuine inks or not? I had been using Epson C84(use the same ink cartridges as CX4600) with nothing but Epson genuine cartridges. It still stopped printing.

Another comment frequently made by Epson. "Do not keep the printer on when you are not printing. It will dry up the printing head." I have never keep it on more than a few minutes. I have always watched while the printer doing its job, and turned it off immediately after.

Now they are saying another thing. "You have to print a full page in color at least once a day to keep the print head wet." It makes a great business for Epson. Everybody will have to buy a set of all cartridges every two weeks.

When I called Epson, the customer service rep. offered me an incredible deal of "$10.- discount" toward their new model which is C88, which is rated worse even when it's brand new than C84. He made it sound like I couldn't get it $10.- off at anywhere else.

I am also having the same problem. Spent 2-3 hours to trouble shooting my new catridge install. Did numerous nozzle cleaning and my ink level reduced by 15% present. When printing the pattern, only blue color appears and rest of colors show blank. Thank God. I came to this site and learnt about Epson 4600 problem. I am not going to spend any more time to trouble shoot this crab. Planning to call Epson on Monday

I have been having the same problem, printing out blank pages. I replaced the ink cartridges, multiple nozzle checks and head cleanings. Wasted 60% of the ink already! Had called tech support last week, said would have to pay the $10.00 to talk with some one since the warranty was up in December. After reading all these postings, I see this is a very very common problem!! I will call Epson again, any suggestions from those who had their 4600 replaced with a 4800 on what to say so they will offer the same to me? And are you happy with your 4800?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Braves11025 (2/28/06 11:09 AM) + / -
I had the same exact problem. Here's what I did. First of all my printer was OUT of warranty. I called them up, gave them my serial number and they confirmed that it was out of warranty. Then they told me it would cost me 9.95 or something like that for technical support. I told them "I'm not paying any money for that, I don't need tech support, I've done everything there is to do." They then waived the fee. (They might ask what you did, just tell them you've cleaned the nozzle heads numerous times.) THey will then put you through to someone else. Now they didnt just send me a new printer right away. The guy gave me a couple of options. I chose the one where you send in your broken printer, free shipping and everything, and they will either fix or replace it. Well a couple weeks later I recived a brand new CX4800 and i never paid a dime!!! The only thing i had to do was find a box to package it in. I have to say, they handeled it pretty well. I hope this model lasts longer!

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (3/6/06 8:07 PM) + / -
Dear Kavey,

I loved your sociopathic solution to this nightmare which I, too, have experienced. Normally a rather honest person, I do believe that it would be poetic justice to play a switcheroonie with the ink cartridges and then send the whole neat package back. The trouble is, as I verified during my "chat" with the nice people at Epson today, that they can tell from the serial number when the little piece of shite was manufactured and then deduce that it takes about a month or two for some sucker to, in a Forrest Gump kind of way, take it from the shelf. Ruh ro! Maybe you could get caught(?)

Arranged to get a 4800. Bully for me and my new mega-ink-expenditures!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Yoyo (3/10/06 3:30 AM) + / -
I am only doing this--after writing something last night--to say a huge "thank you" to those who preceded me on this site.

I had problems--ditto, ditto and more ditto--and finally resolved them by paying my $9.95 "consultation fee," and then having it removed after Epson resolved that it was their age-old problem with the 4600. Now, two days later, am in possession of a 4800.

If I hadn't been stuck in my usual quagmire of self-doubt, I wd. probably have found your website sooner.

Parable: I am old. I was once in possession of a Ronco Vegematic. The product was supposed, with one smash of a fist, to deliver perfectly-sliced ovals of ripe tomato.

A few years later, a best friend visited me in the company of her advertising-culprit of a boyfriend. It was then that I learned that the ad company had painted their green tomatoes red. This would have explained the "splash factor" that I delivered with every blow to my Ronco-enhanced tomatoes.

Moral: Always assume it is your failing in the first place, and then (more quickly) assume it might be the fault of the product.

$50 or $100 later on ink cartridges, I shall hasten.

Where shall we meet again, fellow travelers, on our woes about the 4800?

Thank you, thank you, for leading me here.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (3/10/06 3:48 PM) + / -
They ought to make a staples commercial out of this because
that was easy !
I was about to buy another printer then I found this site.I just got off the phone with the tech people.Even though i did fudge my DOP *Sigh* but I did pay for a working piece of equipment as I try to rationlize my fib nevertheless I am very happy.
I have heard more good things about epson than bad so I guess I could buy from them again. this whole conversation could have went a whole different direction.the customer service was actually good.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by gaheb (3/13/06 12:17 PM) + / -
I contacted Epson via e-mail on 02/23/06, only three weeks after my warranty expired. After going through several print nozzle cleanings without any success, I did what they suggested and called their tech support# and mentioned that I was instructed via an e-mail to do so(this avoids the $9.95 service fee). They offered me three solutions: 1)Purchase the cx-4800 from them over the phone for $89.99 2) They would send me a $40.00 coupon to be used to purchase the cx-4800 online at their website. 3)They would send me a prepaid shipping label to return my cx-4600 for repair with a 90 day warranty. I originally chose option number three and received the fed-ex label to ship my printer for repair. After reviewing the postings on this site, I decided to call Epson back and mention what I read and that others with identical situations were offered a replacement cx-4800 with a new set of ink cartridges shipped within 5 to 7 business days without cost. I re-inerated this time that my printer was only three weeks out of warranty. The customer service rep placed me on hold for several minutes and returned to say that they would honor my request. I look forward to receiving my new cx-4800 printer. I just hope they corrected the problem this time around.
Thanks to those who posted their experiences and kudos to Epson for handling the situation professionally....after a little coaxing!!!!!!!

I had the same problem. Cleaned it all.. replaced ink with new.. nothing prints. Called epson and they are sending me a cx6800 with ink and all software in 3-5 days. They are sending prepaid postage for the old printer. Took me about 10 min on the phone, having my epson registered and still on warranty helped I am sure. They did a hold on my credit card for $89 which will be taken off when they recieve the old printer.

Good luck.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by malichai (3/15/06 1:55 PM) + / -
Update on last post. Epson called me back and said that the credit card was not needed and I did not have to send back the old printer. Thats even better. I will get my new cx4800 (corrected also) with ink in the next week.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (3/18/06 8:16 PM) + / -
WARNING epson CX4800 will become crap too after a while!!!! I replaced my CX4600 via customer service call (for free) 8 months ago. Changed cartridges 2 times by now and everything was cool. Third time came to replaced my cartridges and DAMN magenta won't print anything no matter how much I run nozzle cleaning cycle. SAME PIECE OF CRAP ALL OVER AGAIN!!! WILL CALL THEM ON MONDAY AGAIN!!!

^^^^ same instance has just occured with me. received the CX4800 last thursday and it printed alignment sheet, nozzle check, and other pages fine. didnt use it again til today. i attempt to copy a piece of paper and a blank page comes out. ive tried several times already with other methods (ie scanning, printing from pc, etc)...

...FOUR DAYS and its already broken. i wish i wouldve found this page sooner.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by bowbiter (3/20/06 10:08 PM) + / -
I'm soooooooo glad this site popped up when I googled "cx4600 printing blank pages". I believe my warranty died maybe two weeks ago but I still plan on calling in. I also went out and bought brand new ink cartridges only to get blank pages and for epson's print monitor to claim I used up 1/2 of my ink when absolutely none of it ended up on paper. I'm glad epson's customer service is good because otherwise I'd probably go screaming at the apple store who sold me the printer. And I have had good epson printers in the past that lasted forever (epson dot matrix and epson stylus color - lasted forever) so I still like the epson name...at least when they know their product is screwy they replace it with little hassle.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (3/24/06 4:24 AM) + / -
I've had 2 of these do this. First one Epson CS replaced right away - no hassle except the credit card hold until one defective returned, That was in August. Second happened last week. Today I call them. They do tend to guzzle ink. I can't believe how many cartridges I've gone through. I suspect that the status monitor is wonky too. Some of the cartridges I've removed as "empty" sure felt and shook like they still had ink. They should have done a recall.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by CBizzzzzzz (3/25/06 6:12 PM) + / -
Same problem as everyone else. I rarely use my Epson CX4600 since it is at my vacation home. I replaced all the ink cartridges for the first time after 14 months (last weekend) since pages were printing poorly. Now it produces only blank instead of printed pages. I went through all the trouble shooting stuff (cleaning ink heads, re-installing printer driver, turning printer off and on, computer off and on, etc.), and still blank pages. What a piece of garbage!!! Since it is just out of the one-year warranty period, Epson made some lame offers to compensate for their lemon product. You can buy a competitor's printer, with all the same functions (such as an HP), for less than you would pay for the replacement through Epson's less than generous program. That is exactly what I will do- purchase a competitor's printer. Fortunately, I purchased with a VISA credit card that has a benefit that extends the warranty period from one to two years. I just can't understand a corporation that aspires to promote customer disloyalty when their core business is basically selling the ink cartridges. They could do a much better job of this if their printers worked reliably.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (3/29/06 9:15 AM) + / -
Thanks to everyone on this site! I had the same problems as all of the above with my Epson CX4600. It was out of warranty by two months. I called customer support, I did not pay the $10 fee for out-of-warranty support, but explained the problem with the printer and was transferred to the next level of support. Since I had just bought a new mac from the apple store that came with a free printer, I asked for the free shipping label and free repair offer instead of the $40 coupon. It had been only a week since I returned the old printer when the new one arrived last night! It must have been easier to just send a new CX4800. Epson came through and did the right thing by replacing the CX4600. Good luck to the next one who views this site!

I was almost ready to dump my CX4600 when I thought of an ideam and it worked! I took out my cartridges and sqirtedc some Isopropyl Alcohol into the wells below the cartridges and waited for about 30 minutes and the printer worked much better than it had for ages. In fact its as good as new,and all you need is a syringe and some Isopropyl Alcohol?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/1/06 12:02 PM) + / -
I only wish that I would have seen this website before I wasted countless hours and about $100 on replacement catridges. I did contact Epson yesterday and they are sending me a new printer CX4800. The rep I spoke with acted like she had never heard of this before, but quickly offered me a new printer (to my surprise). I really hope that this issue is resolved and I thank all of you for taking the time to note your situations as it is a real help for others.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/4/06 4:12 PM) + / -
In the fateful holiday season of 2004, I purchased two lovely, discounted CX4600s. Ah, those were the days. I turned down the Best Buy extended warranty, thinking of the fools who fell for such a ruse --- and with an Epson product --- poor, poor fools.

Two Epson printers are now dead. One on the anniversary of it's warranty, the other this month past. Beware the Ides of Epson.

I spoke with the lovely folks at Epson and am soon to be the proud owner of an Epson RX620 for $75. Admittedly, this fateful decision was made prior to finding this website, and will probably haunt me in my future. But they WERE nice about it.

Any experience with the RX620 in this sad, sad group?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/4/06 7:54 PM) + / -
You have to use Epson printers often. If you don't they clog. This means you can't let it sit unuse for 3 months and expect it not to dry out.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/5/06 8:18 AM) + / -
Like everyone else, my epson was printing blank pages. After doing a search on google and finding this helpful page, I emailed epson. I went through all their troubleshooting and emailed them and they told me to call tech support, and to mention that I was told to call, so they would waive the $10 fee (my CX4600 was out of warranty by 5 months).

After going through a checklist of troubleshooting, they finally put me through to a level 2 customer rep. They said that my printer was supposed to last longer than 1.5 years, and their must be a hardware failure or malfunction. First they tried to sell me a discounted Epson printer, I told them I'm wary of buying another epson after this. So they then offered me to ship my old unit back (for free) so they could do a repair or replacement, which I accepted. She said the process can take up to 4 weeks.

I must say that both cust. service reps that assisted me was very nice and the whole process took about 10 minutes. I'm not sure if I would buy another epson, but their customer service was excellent. Let's hope the replacement/repaired unit lasts longer this time around.

Good luck to everyone else.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by whyzguy (4/10/06 7:14 AM) + / -
I just got off the phone with epson after playing email tag. I told the tech the problem. I even refered this site and this thread about the problem and had included the site in the email. I said this seems to be a common problem with this printer. He said all printers have problems. I replied if the printer has a particular, distinct problem that's reported by many, then it's called a lemon and should be rectified. He said I will transfer you to customer service. At that point I heard the toliet bowl starting to flush. The CS basically said since the printer is out of warranty, even though a month, it would have to be serviced. I said the printer is a year old. Is that how long your products last? Besides the cost of paying a tech to fix this compared to buying another one doesn't make sense. I doubt any of the techs even looked at URL I sent. I'm going to copy and paste this entire thread and send it off to show this model is defective

How is the CX4800?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/10/06 8:16 PM) + / -
I have the CX4800 now and while I haven't had problems with the ink like with the 4600, I am now having problems with it grabbing the paper. It just does not seem to "catch" the paper and has to be usually inserted one piece at a time. I won't ever buy an Epson again.

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/10/06 8:36 PM) + / -
I'm so glad I googled my problem and found this page. My Epson was out of black ink, I replaced it, then did a nozzel check only to find that my black ink wouldn't print. In the process of trying to figure out why the black ink wouldn't work I wasted the ink in the other colors and had to replace all of them. After I replaced all of them, none of them would print. I of course wasted much more ink, found this page and then decided to call.

I told them I cleaned the print head numerous times, which I did, and was told that they would send me the CX4800 as a replacement, thankfully I have about a month left on my waranty.

I called back minutes later though, to complain about the $80 I spent on ink today. That was more of a problem then I thought it'd be. They acted like they were doing me a favor because the new printer would come with ink, but since I can't use the ink I have for the CX4600 that only seems logical. So after a lot of back and forth, he called back and agreed to send me extra cartridges.

Overall, I'm satisfied with their customer service. They also asked me if I leave it on overnight or when I'm not using it and they also don't want it back. Hopefully I don't have the same problem with the CX4800, the problem doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to fix, so hopefully they figured it out.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/10/06 11:13 PM) + / -
OH YEAH CX4800 WILL SOONER OR LATER BECOME USELESS JUST LIKE IT'S OLD COUNTERPART!!!! HOW I KNOW??? IT HAPPENED TO ME NOT LONG AGO AFTER 6 MONTHS OF CX4800 USAGE (2 CYCLES OF INK CHANGES) AND @ THE THIRD CYCLE OF THEIR SHITY INK REPLACEMENT - THE SHIT HIT THE FAN - AGAIN!!! AND I USED THE PRINTER A LOT TOO WHICH REALLY TICKS ME OFF. I POSTED THIS "WARNING" ABOVE ONCE NOT LONG AGO. ANYWAYS CALLED CS REP AND THEY ASKED ME TO FAX/EMAIL THEM MY ORIGINAL CX4600 RECEIPT. AND SINCE I LOST IT, THEY COULDN'T HELP ME THE SECOND TIME AROUND. THEN I WENT TO BESTBUY AND BOUGHT HP PSC 1600 AND A GOOD LESSON HAS BEEN LEARNED HERE FOLKS - NEVE BUY A PRINTER THAT HAS ITS PRINTHEADS ON THE PRINTER ITSELF == PRINTHEADS SHOULD BE ON CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND NOT THE PRINTER.

ps - MAYBE I MESSED UP WITH NOT FOLLOWING THEIR ADVICE - "KEEP THE PRINTER TURNED OFF WHILE NOT IN USE"

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/11/06 12:27 AM) + / -
remove all the ink cartidges, get a small phillips driver and remove the 5 small screws, remove the black plastic cable wire cover and remove the ink cartidge lock handle.

lightly with pliers grasp the ink probe and lightly wiggle up
the printhead which is the bottom plate. firmly with your fingers
tug out the cable wire sets (2) take the print head and dip it
in very warm water over night and rinse well.

let dry over night and re install from reverse.
Works every time. besides... if the warranty is done, what have you to loose?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/11/06 12:59 AM) + / -
forgot... to this first.
turn on printer, press the Ink button and wait for
printer to cycle... while head is moving back and forth
unplug the printer,

move print head to the area where the Serial No. is
and then remove the cartidges as noted above.

The Geeks.

Well, just called Epson and they'll send me an CX4800 even though the warranty expired 3 months ago. !!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/13/06 9:21 AM) + / -
I just posted no too long ago about my CX4600, I received my "new" CX4800 just two days after I called. Apparently it states in the warranty that they could replace your printer with a remanufactured or refurbished printer, which is what I got, a refurbished printer that sounds like it's falling apart. Rather then waiting until it does and my warranty runs out, I called about it. I'll be getting another "new" CX4800 only this time they want the other printer back so I had to give them my credit card number in case I don't send it back. Has anyone else been sent a refurbished printer?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/15/06 8:14 PM) + / -
In the past i have alwasy liked Epson because of the Quality of the print but this whole ink thing is really getting to me. I had a 777 and when this problem happened with that one I assumed it must have be user error. So with this new printer Cx4600 everything was going fine until it came time when the ink cartridge ran out and i needed to get some new one's. Well because of the fact that you have to practically get a 2nd mortage on your home to pay for some new ink, i waited until the loan came through! Aparently that was not a good idea. Now it doesn't work. The exact ame problem as EVERYONE else here! and the same problem with my other epson! How ridiculous. On another website it says that the ink will turn to a honey type substance and clog all the areas. Why is it that only epsons do this. Can't they use the same type of ink or ink system as everyone else. I have never heard of this problem with ANY other brands. So first i will try the obvious and clean every nook and craney in the whole printer. If that is a no go, i sure you can guess where i will be calling tommorow!

My epson just quit working. I couldnt print out my tax forms! Now its a day late, Epson says they can give my a special "Loylty" passcode to their web site so I can buy a new one at a discount. Like I would ever buy an Epson again. I havent even used a half ream of paper in this thing. My old ink cartidges are still full but quit working so I bought new ones, then I find this web site. CS said old ink carts are suppose to be half full of ink so they dont blow air through the print nozzels. What a load.

It looks as though I just joined a long list of people who got screwed thanks to buying the epson cx 4600. Yes indeed, the very same ink clog problem. How 'bout this "epson story"... I replaced all four cartridges with STAPLES brand replacements (much cheaper in price) and found the yellow did not work. Well, after numerous head cleaning attemps, I ran out of ink and didn't even get to print ONE SINGLE PAGE on brand new cartridges. I snapped. I finally had enough and called epson support and after a heated phone argument with cust.serv.rep over the date of purchase (she needed it and I didn't have it), round 1 went to epson. I hung up and went back to my respective corner. Luckily I had a good corner man. His advice? Go to the forum Rocky, go to the forum. I went to the forum and found humdreds if not thousands of complaints by people who had the exact same problem as me. Wow, what a gold mine of information. I stood from my stool and charged back to the center of ring and dialed that snarky little Kathleen back at epson support. She held steadfast, no date of purchase, no help. I laughed at her and just started reciting thread after thread from disgruntled epson customers who had all gotten replacement models sent out to them. After reciting about a dozen complaints to her, she had to step back to the ropes and put me on hold. I said, "you go ahead and do that sweetheart", I'll be right here when you get back. She had apparently conversed with her corner crew and realized they had no answer to the latest flurry of punches I threw their way. She came back on the line, and like a kid who has been told to shake hands and apologize, she reluctantly said " sir, in this case we have decided to ship you out a brand new printer, the cx4800 with a full supply of brand new improved durabrite ink". VICTORY at last, they threw in the towel, the little guy has won against the giant. Well, I could have been a wiseguy and rubbed it, but I didn't, I said thank you very much, shook hands with my opponent and started heading back to my corner when Kathleen's bruised ego had to get one last shot in before leaving the building. In her snarky little voice she said, " we will be shipping that to you, BY GROUND OF COURSE... have a nice day"... click the phone hung up. Whatever, I got what I wanted. I will leave it at that, for now. When my new replacement printer begins to crap out with the same problem, I will call epson and offer Kathleen a rematch.

It is just incredible how many people have been bitten by this thing! I got my CX4600 free after rebates as a package deal when I bought my laptop. I probably used the thing a total of maybe 10 times. When it just completely stopped printing one day, I figured I'd get some new cartridges, but the common sense in me kicked in and I did some searching... and here I am :) I found this forum about a month ago and made a mental note. Finally got around to calling Epson Support today and after a few questions I was told they are sending a replacement and I should get it in 5-7 days. I'll probably be selling it to put the money towards a good printer, maybe a color laserjet. Its funny, but I worked for Best Buy back in 1999-2000 and it was the same deal back then. Half the people coming in to buy inkjet printers were looking to replace a POS Epson that didn't work or just ate through ink. Some things never change I guess. Epson scanners seem to be really good, and maybe their higher end inkjets do a nice job, but this kind of press is just the worst.

wow, i can't believe how many people there are on this sight!!! i have been having problems with my all in one printer since the day i got it...i took it back to the store and one of the reps for epson had me take my pc in and he seemed to fix things, but not for long, it started the blank pages thing, and i was so disgusted and discouraged, i just kinda pushed it aside. from time to time friends and family would look at it and they said i needed new ink, so i got new ink,, u know what that cost!!! today i happened upon this link, and OH MY GOD, i can't believe it, so many of us, and for how long? dates back a while, i can't believe there wasn't a recall!!!!!!! i emailed epson as soon as i saw this, and hope to get a new printer, and if that doesnt work, i go to another brand!! i had a cannon for years, and when i needed to print something, i never even thought about it, i just printed!!!

i just got off the phone whith epson and they are sending me a new printer, the cx4800. first they wanted to fix mine, but i said, noooo i didnt want to wait to send it in and then get it back and go through all this again. they said it was out of warranty and that was all they could do. i asked to speak to someone who could do more, so i got put on hold for a time, but finally got what i asked for. now i decided to google the "new" model, and i am a bit worried that i may have the same prob,, they told me i have a 90 day warranty with the new one, and boy will i count the days and make sure if i have any trouble at all i will be back on the phone. one of the letters in here said they got the new one and it wasnt any better, oh oh, not happy to hear that...i'll keep my fingers crossed.

I can't believe what I am reading! I just litteraly got off the phone with tech support 3 hours ago. My printer and also my also a family members printer is doing the exact same thing that this page is talking about. We both received the printers as gifts for Xmas of 2004. Both printers died at the same time. However, when I talked to tech support, the said they had not heard of any other complaints about this product and they found it unusual that both printers died at the same time. And then they did not offer to replace the printer, instead the offered a discount (good for 14 days) to buy a new printer off of their "Valuable Customer" web site. I wish I had found this page before I spoke to them. I KNOW I will be calling them back.

Thanks for all the info

Anyone else who registered their CX4600 receive papers in the mail stating that Epson is in Court with California b/c of this problem and those people who bought it and registered are entitled to various "claims". It said the final hearing is in Aug 2006

I have the same problems with my Epson CX4600 also. I have received a notice of legal action towards the company for this very reason. All well in good that I may get $45 store coupon
but, suppose I buy my third cartridge set and it still doesn't work. Does any know if this is fixable at all or should I just put the printer out for the trash pick-up. I have only had it 7 months and now can not print anything. I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this legal action.

Thanks to everyone on this site I now have a new CX4800 on the way. It took 3 levels of customer support and a lot of patience, but after reading your comments, I wouldn't settle for less than a printer replacement. My new printer should arrive in 5-7 business days. Hopefully it will last longer than the 4600, but at least I will not have to pay any more to find out.

HAD IT HAD IT HAD IT HAD IT FINISHED FINI DONE FLIPPED MY WIG DONE EVERYTHING WASTED 100 ON THE PRINTER AND WELL OVER 100 ON INK!!!!!!!!

I've flippin done everything. Been screwing with this thing off and on since last summer with no results. Cleaned it manually, used that glycol based stuff three times overnight... Used two and going on three sets of cartridges to clean, check, clean, check, clean check....

I AM SO DONE! I kept moving around in a vicious circle without even being able to get to the actual "troubleshooting" page on epson. Found the troubleshooting how to page but there was no link back and couldn't find it otherwise on the website. Could not find an email except to the webmaster and I know he'll stick mine in the round file for sure. Looked for the tube. If I found it, it's definitely connected.

I finally find this website and read all the wonderful messages and help and rants about epson. I'm really worked up by now and I use the number to call Epson.

Perhaps I should have calmed down, but I am stubborn and I have been too patient, and wasted too too much money on ink...

I called and gave them my model and number...

mr. dude pipes up that my warranty is expired and it will cost 9.95 for tech support.

I FLIPPED OUT ON THE LITTLE DORK!

I let over 6 months worth of frustration out on this guy and my blood boiled over as I yelled "F*CK THISSS! IT'S GOIN IN THE TRASH!!!!!" and I hung up.

Included in my 30 second rant was mention of how I've been trying to fix this issue for six months, how I've wasted over a 100 dollars in ink, how I've done everything I could and you want me to actually PAY YOU ten dollars to have you tell me what to do to fix this stupid thing? I've done everything I could!

I could hear him talking through all my ranting and I think all he was saying was "but it's out of warranty" and maybe a couple of bs "I understand"s

NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN

God I pray to you now - please point me in the direction of a quality printer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*sigh*

I must go now. Need to take it outback and shoot it. Better yet... boyfriend can carry a gun and has membership to a private range. I think I'll take it out for target practice. Yes. That will make me feel better!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (4/25/06 10:34 AM) + / -
Quality printers cost quality money. A big spender with $80.00 to spend is not going to get quality. A good printer costs $200.00 or more.

But as with ANY INK JET you have to use them on a regular basis. If you only print once in a while then a laser printer is the way to go.

OMG....I couldn't find anything on troubleshooting and so I did a google and this page popped up. This is not my day! I have a colleague coming over tonight to do computer work and I assumed that because I was using generic ink the computer was rejecting it so I bought $60 worth of epson ink...no better! I actually ripped through a whole set of cartridges trying to clean the print heads.
I just want to say...I use my printer EVERY DAY! So how can it gunk up?!
OK... whatever...I'm going to try the alcohol thing because my husband lost the receipt a long time ago and I don't think I sent the warranty thing....SOL for me.
ARGHHHH!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by moe (4/28/06 7:34 AM) + / -
Alcohol thing? It's not the alcohol that dissolves the ink, it's the water content of the alcohol. Better to use plain water, better yet, there is a head cleaner sold on this site.

So much for Epson standing behind their products. All they could offer is a rip-off @ http://www.epson.com/loyalty (can buy same CX4800 @ retail for $10 less - with rebate). Problem is the print head design is the same - maybe lasts 12-13 months if lucky. My gripe is that they know they have a design defect and they continue to sell these units -> rip-off!
I am now an HP customer (laser most likely).
Good luck to all and I know I'll be doing more research on equipment prior to purchasing - thanks to all who'd contributed these threads.

I called tech support(562-276-4382) without much success. Support claimed that there was no problem with their CX4600 printer. It is two months past warranty, although this problem started almost 4 mopnths ago. I will never purchase an Epson product in the Future. This is a major defect, which they do not own up to. Epson manufactures JUNK !!!!!!!!!!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by INSIDER (5/4/06 6:04 PM) + / -
OK people 3 cleaning cycles is all you need to do to know if there is a problem no output after 3 no output likely
yes you should print a couple times a week even if it is a nozzle check uses minimal ink as it only prints lines
yes you should only use epson carts as others are inks (3rd party) are not designed to work with the printer and may cause damage
and a lot of you could avoid getting this issue if you turned the printer off when not in use!!!!and take your ink carts out if your not goinf to use for months at a time
(liquid dries after sitting not jsut in a printer but other cases as well)
no screaming and yelling gets you now where as i understand you are frustrated in the first place and calling names and throwing threats only makes me hang up, and makes me angry i am trying my best to help you and no i am not brainwashed by a big company i generally enjoy helping you
yes your warranty is one year from the date of purchase but his is the dinger there is a 30 day grace period after that and if you are relatively close to that we have to get permission from a higher authority as a tech rep pretty much has no authority
now if you are out of warranty yes you will be referred to a loyalty website where there is the cx4800 for 99$ plus a 30$ mail in rebate(free shipping)+ other printers to choose from (which would then put you under epsons warratny for another year free replacement within that year and free tech support) where the prices are pretty decent and you get a rebate on most of the printers as well you get a set of ink carts with any epson you buy not 2 sets but 1 set to get you started no screaming and yelling will change that!!

now as i said i understand how angry it makes you when your printer does not work, as i would be pissed 2 these pritners are a different technology from an hp as u can tell from the photos they print thus have different issue from hp i own an hp and an epson and have had no problems with either and love both. the cx 4800 and any printers now being offered dont really have many issues i am not toteing the company line here this is from what i have noticed in dealing with customers follow the above tips and youll have greater success and a longer lasting printer

now if you are past your warranty you are likely out of luck
************************************************************
i will check back here regularly if anyone wants more info on anything i am more then happy to provide info i wont respond to people makeing durogatory comments and i do understand frustation

the thing i dont understand as a consumer myself some of you people who by the printers at like 60$ (not specifically the cx4600)calling after the printer breaks down after a year or 2 what do you expect you paid 60$ for it i as a consumer understand you get what you pay for do some of you?? and i would expect to be charged something for an out of warranty printer 9.95 is relatively cheap try calling dell, adobe or microsft and then decide if 9.95 is to much for a company to charge for a customer who is out of warranty i for one think they are doing you a favour and screaming and yelling and calling names is so childish and indicitave of someone who expects everything free i dont know where you grew up but where i gre up you paid for stuff and and treated peoiple with a little bit of respect knowing they are only trying to do there job and have policies and procedured that have to followed

I too have some new CX4600 print cartridges (T0445 series) that I can not use. I was fortunate to get a CX4800 replacement from Epson. Do I dare try and use T0445 series print cartridges in the CX4800 printer? I'm not sure they will even fit. I noted that the CX4800 printer uses a T060 series cartridge. I expect the answer to be NO!

Thanks for your input.

Ok, I don't expect my printer to last forever and I don't expect anything for free. However, I bought my printer and haven't gotten my moneys worth at all. I just replaced the black ink, like two weeks ago and printed maybe, maybe 30 pages of essays I wrote for school. SO just words. Now my ink says I need to replace it. I just put in color too. Right now, then I ran a test print and it looks like about 1/6th of my ink is missing for all of the colors. What a piece of crap. I will never by epson again, and will tell everyone the same. Garbage I tell you. I wouldn't be suprised if they go belly up after this printer.

Insider or anyone...
I got my 4800 in 4 days. I like their response. I got a new power cable, but not a new usb cable. Don't they normally come with a usb cable?
Also, I am trying to clean my 4600 to give to my daughter in college, but I am having trouble taking it apart without breaking it. I took off the 2 screws on the right hinge but the left hinge of the printer does not detach. I would like to remove the cartridge carriage too, but removing the 2 screws inside did not loosen it at all. Is there a schematic somewhere I can look at?

Thanks

Re: Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by moe (5/7/06 3:34 PM) + / -
Epson sometimes gets tricky. If you peel off the control panel label on the left side, there are screws underneath. Make sure you flush the purge tube and remove the waste ink deposits from the pads. You can wash those in the sink under hot running water. Make sure your wife isn't home when you do so and clean up all the evidence.

Re: Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by WeR1 (5/7/06 9:38 PM) + / -
There is a section of plastic on the left rear corner that is removable (kind of tricky to remove). The screw for the left hinge is hidden there behind the ribbon cables. The screws under the control panel are not necessary to get to the left hinge screw.

After taking all this apart I discovered that you can easily remove the print head without taking any thing apart. Just remove all ink cartridges, look in side and remove three screws and the print head lifts right out. Remove the two ribbon cable to remove completely.

Have fun.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (5/7/06 9:41 PM) + / -

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by insider (5/10/06 4:24 PM) + / -
no epson does not include the usb with the printer they do not make usb cords they make it the responsibity of teh custoemr to purchase I am not prive to where the screws and stuff are so i am unable to give any tips in that regard
response to 05/07/06 12:45pm
as with most printers on the market the printer layers colors to create a color so it does in fact use color ink when you print in black unless you are on a pc you can go into your driver and set the printer to black ink only in the advanced tab but be mindfull that you want to use the colors from time to time to ensure that as i stated earlier any liquid that sits for a while dries so doing something as little as a nozzle check twice a week helps to avoid the problem
Look i understand what most if not all of you are saying about the printer i agree with you but take a look at one of my previous posts and there is genuine tips on prolonging the life of this printer if your printer is less then a year old (one year from the date of purchase) call epson they will help you your warranty is for replacement even if you are 30 days past they can still help you otherwise give you the option to get a far better (more reliable)printer at a discount and that again puts you under a one year replacement warranty epson as most of you know doesnt make the money on the physical printer it is the inks and paper you use with them as you can tell what you pay for them
and dont scream at the person on the line cause they have to follow procedures and really have no flexibility to change them they are trying to help you and as with any job are doing what they are told and trained to do screaming and yelling or expressing yourself does not allow the person on the phone to change what is availible to you

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by insider (5/10/06 4:27 PM) + / -
one more tip for those of you who use those ink tube refill systems from ebay useing those does infact void your warranty as you have to manipulate the printer in order to be able to use them thus voiding the warranty

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (5/15/06 10:25 AM) + / -
Chalk up another dissatisfied user. I print all the time-- a few days ago all the heads dried out. I bought new ink even though it didn't feel like the cartridges were totally empty. Now I'm out $50 for ink and have a printer that is garbage. I guess I'm going to have to go get the HP out of storage-- at least it will work.

I'll never buy Epson again, that's for sure.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by cscheer (5/17/06 9:12 AM) + / -
A HEARTFELT thank you to all who have posted here and to those who run this site! My 4600 abruptly stopped printing 3 out of 4 colors on 5/13/06. Here is my tale:

5/15 I called tech support and was told my printer was out of warranty...DUH it was purchased 1/16/05...BUT I could pay $9.95 for tech support....I declined and hung up.

5/15 Late into the night I read many (actually all of them in this CX4600 thread) posts after finding this site .

5/16 Freshly armed with oodles of knowledge on what to say and what to expect I e-mailed tech support with my issue and recievd a reply within the hour on what to do and who to call when that failed.

5/16 I called the tech support line and used my wit, charm, and well rehearsed speech, to describe my problem and tell them I wanted a free repair or a replacement. Immediately the rep started the "its 4 months out of warranty" script. I cut him off and asked to be elevated to the next level. He paused and said he would forward me to a special rep because I was a "Loyal Epson Customer".

Enter the "special" Rep: I told the next rep what I wanted and why. He started the "loyalty site" options which I again interrupted and asked to be elevated again because that wasn't satisfactory. He gave me the Customer relations Number and a Call Reference Number to pass on.

Enter Alvin in Customer relations: Alvis listened patiently while I went on my speil. I emphasised that I have only owned epson printers and this was my 3rd, but possibly last, if this doesnt work out. I told him about this site and all the posts and experiences I learn of. He then was kind enough to explain that only unhappy people post and that these posts only represent a fraction of the number of 4600's out there. I thought, but did not say, that these posts are like seeing a roach in the kitchen....for each one you see there and many, many more you hvae not seen yet.

Alvin went on to explain that each case is decided on as case-by-case basis and what you other posters got isn't necessarily what I will get or am entitle to since I am out of warranty.

Anyhow, my long blather about loyalty and MY like of the unit paid off as he offered the free return for repair because I AM a loyal epson customer. He emphasised REPAIR but, I knew from all the posts here that it would result in a 4800 arriving at my house in a few days time. He even e-mail me the instructions for shipping and siad if there was a fed ex drop nearby I could save a week or more of mail lag so as to save the time of him mailing them to me.

Interesting but expected:The instructions told me to write on my box WHOLE UNIT EXCHANGE"

5/17 (TODAY) at 5:30 am I was at FED EX-Kinkos up the street and sent the little, defective, bastard back to Epson.

I will advise how it all works out

THANK YOU ALL for taking the time to share and ...well... thanks to Epson for being polite, courteous, and after a little educated prodding, doing the right thing.

Chris

P.S. The Epson Stylus 440 that went into the attic 16 months ago when we got the 4600 was brought out, plugged in, and after ONE cleaning cycle went right to work. Still had the same cartridges that were in it in the attic. Thay have made good product in the past.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (5/18/06 8:07 PM) + / -
I printed a few pages- black and white and I had to replace even the color cartridges.

Purchased $55 of inks and my printed blank pages and it was tax season.
And after some attempts, the printer was out of ink. Can you believe it - no pages printed but $55 cartridges empty.

This is atrocious.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by finderskeepers (5/22/06 9:33 AM) + / -
Yep same problem here, changed ink cartridges, spent 60-70 bucks on ink, now they are half used up from all the attempts at head cleanings. I called Epson, they offered me the $9.95 deal to talk to a service rep, I refused, as it wasn't anything that was going to get fixed over the phone. She asked for my serial number and advised me that the unit was 4 months out of warranty. She said I could bring the unit in for a head replacement for $129.00!!! If this CX4600 has printed 100 images in its lifetime I would be surprised. I will be calling epson back tomorrow armed with this new information.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (5/26/06 9:08 PM) + / -
Lord, I'm having the same problem. I just replaced ink cartriges, all except the black, which didn't need to be replaced. Now it will not print. By the time I cleaned nozzles, etc...my black ink was used up...now it won't let me print, it says, due to no black ink. I thought that's why I bought separate cartridges, so if one runs out...I can use the others...never happens. If anyone can help with this printer printing blanks, I would greatly apprciate it..think I need to go buy a different printer?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Little-Bit-Ranch (5/28/06 3:11 PM) + / -
Here is a combination of things that is keeping my CX4600 in operation.

If it hasn't printed in some time, follow the directions by "Anonymous" posted 4/11/06 for removing the print head. (This can be tricky. Be patient and pay attention so you can put it back together )

Gently clean the surface of the print head with alcohol on a Q-tip. Set on a paper towel, print head surface down.

Go find a bottle of Windex. (I use the cheapest brand I can find at the Dollar store) The tube in the bottle of windex is exactly the right size to fit over the a print nozzle. I take the tube off the spray nozzle, hold my finger over the top the tube to keep about 2 inches of liquid in the tube, then put the tube on a print nozzle and let it soak. Eventually, you will see a colored spot on the paper towel. When this happens, move the tube of windex to the next nozzle.

I think the ammonia in the Windex does the trick.

I eventually took a couple of tubes from Windex and cut them in half so that I now have 4 of them. As soon as my printer fails to print, I simple remove the cartridge and stick a tube of Windex over the print nozzle. 10 - 20 minutes generally does the trick.

I have found that turning it off and/or printing every day doesn't make any difference. I have only used Epson cartridges in the printer so that wasn't the cause. There appears to be some problem with the ink consistency and the print nozzle. I learned the Windex trick working on an old Exson FX80. I don't think the problem is unique to the CX4600. Bad sadly - - may be unique to Epson.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (5/28/06 3:39 PM) + / -
Wow more bad advice from a bunch of hacks. Windex damages the plastics of the print head. Removing the print head throws off the factory adjustments.

I would post the correct way of doing things but it's too simple. And the links are all over this forum.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Noname21 (5/28/06 8:52 PM) + / -
what do you mean with removing the print head throws off the factory adjusments... and what its the correct way to doing... please if you know a good way to fix the problem please help me.

There is a search engine box down at the bottom. If you were to use it, you'd find the answers. We do get tired of answering the same questions over and over and over and over and over.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by finderskeepers (5/29/06 7:44 AM) + / -
Epson Canada will do nothing about this except offer me a $40.00 rebate on a new one, or replace the print head for 120.00 at an authorized service center. This all-in-one maybe has printed 100 images in its lifetime, what a piece of crap.

I too am having the same problem with this printer. I will call tech support tomorrow!

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (5/30/06 12:17 PM) + / -
Well, thanks to everyone that posted on this site. Power of the consumer at work. New CX4800 arriving in 4-5 days; didn't have to argue, fuss or complain. And I don't have to send my old one back.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Tekla (5/31/06 2:29 PM) + / -
alcohol, Q-tips, and a sewing needle worked for me, thanks!

I had the same problem in Canada. I hand wrote them a letter complaining about it a little over a week ago. They just phoned me back to check how things were. The lady on the phone was nice and kept sighing when I re-issued my complaints and that it was a piece of junk and a waste of money! Then I told her that I had bought a Canon. She told me the reason she phoned was to offer me free ink for the new printer I chose to buy. Obviously thanks but NO THANKS!~!!!!! So she told me she hopes I find everything that I want in my new Canon printer. I told her what I had seen online about the Epson and that the Canon printer I chose was the complete opposite and had only good reviews. I am just so mad!!! Guess that is why I am venting.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by insider (6/3/06 4:05 PM) + / -
i notice a lot of youz are complaining about the 9.95 to talk to a tech rep when you are out of warranty well her is a tip if you go to the epson.com website and at the bottom of the page you will see contact us if you email tech support it is free, and you dont have to wait on the phone lines to get throrgh to which you are being charged long distance to do as there is no 1-800 number

the tech reps will email you back in less then 24 hours (weekdays) with an answer or any trouble shooting that can be done again this is free (with no long distance charges or 9.95 fees)

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by insider (6/3/06 4:13 PM) + / -
and i will let you know you only have to do 3 head cleanings to know that it is not going to print
if you are getting blank pages and the status monitor show that the carts stil have ink dont replace them all just one is all tech will ask if they are six months or older otherwise if they are recent dont buy another set!!!

also if you call tech support and are given the loyalty website and passcode the cx4800 is on this website for 99$ and then there is a 30$mail in rebate (free ship) so in the end you pay 69$ this is less then what the carts cost you most of the time
as they are new printers you are again under the one year repalcement warranty with free tech support
not a bad deal when you pay that for your carts anyway
and the printer will come with a full set of carts

I thought I was going crazy, because I had just changed the color cartridges and it started printing crappy images, so I went out and bought a new black one. Then, whammo, no color at all except pink. I print all the time, so it is not a matter of printing at least once a week with all the colors. I have had this printer about a year and a half, and have an apple imac. My former computer was a PC running windows 95 and an HP deskjet. I have no intention of continuing to use this piece of crap to print because it has needed head cleaning every week and I have been through twice as many cartridges as I would have used on the HP, and they cost more for the epson. What I want to know is, does anyone recommend an HP to use with the Imac? It was very reliable and I never had any problems with it for the seven years I used the other computer.

Are you happy with the HP PSC 1600?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (6/6/06 8:18 AM) + / -
I have been having the same problem it appears many people have. I am so disappointed to see this. Epson help line sent me here to purchase a different printer at a reduced cost,go figure they are wanting more money. I also purchased new ink and having the same problem everyone else is,can't find the receipt, but know it is either not been a year or just at it,that's their way of helping. We have hardly ever used this,I am very disappointed with them.

wow, over a year of unhappy people! does anyone know of a product recall or anything? I mean come on.. we all have the same problem with the same model, you think someone would have done something by now! I am e-mailing tech support, as I have had my cx4600 for a year and a half and just started printing blank pages. I have no warranty, do you think they'll still send me a replacement?

Well I guess I just joined the club.

Used my CX4600 moderately since Oct. 2005, but now am getting blank pages not matter what I do just like everyone else. Obviously defective printer.

I have the complaint ready to send to the FTC.

The assholes keep telling me that I'm out of warranty but when I checked, I find that I bought it only 9 months ago.
Had to spend a half hour going thru emails till I found it.

They sold it as a "speciall offer" for $99 in Oct. 2005. Now I understand the low price. They were dumping a defectively designed printer.

I call them today. If they don't give me a a new printer, then I'm contacting the FTC, the Attorney General's offices and everyone else I can think of. I'm out about $70 in printer cartridges and I might just sue them in small claims court for that too.

Thanks everone for posting so I could find out about this.

I read all the messages about this crappy printer. I am in Canada and have had two of the printers and experienced all the same problems. I have tried to contact Epson, and they won't do a thing here, hope you are more fortunate.

I have same problem, but was told get it repaired or buy new unit as my old 4600 was out of warranty. Now I am trying to get my money back (ordered new 4800) after reading most of the postings on this site.

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Jimserac (7/19/06 6:38 AM) + / -
As soon as I called them and gave them the
date of my purchase of the old printer
they said they would replace it with
a new one - a Stylus CX4800.

New printer has arrived an I am installing it now.

Thanks everyone - it is when large groups of people
get together and report stuff like this that
they have to take action or suffer loss of market
share. They are still way ahead of HP, whoose junk
all in one printer I threw out after I found out
that the moron engineers at HP had stupidly designed
it such that the scanner would NOT work if the printer
had a problem (look of incredulity on my face); in other
words, the thing would start up by initializing the
printer hardware first and if that failed it would
just exit and not even try to start up the scanner
- a terrible design error that the Epson folks did not make.

Thanks to previous postings, I just enjoyed a satisfying conversation with a great EPSON rep (Solon) who is sending a replacement 4800 with cartridges to make up for my out-of-warranty but long-not-working 4600. His demeanor and offer for a replacement has kept me loyal to EPSON so far. He also advised turning off the 4800 when not in use--something my earlier manual did not warn about. Apparently only a 30-day warranty comes with this new machine---is that usual policy? Otherwise he said the company might be issuing a perpetual warranty for fairly lowbudget equipment.

I can't believe the tech help guy actually led me to this site! I've done it all - and felt like an absolute idiotic anachronism for not solving the problem. I guess I feel better, even though I'm out a lot of bucks for ink - will go to Consumer Reports and buy whatever they recommend. End of nightmare.

Well, so I called today about my CX4600 and pretty much was given a big fat phhhhrt.
They told me that because it was out of warranty the only thing they would do was set me up with the "loyalty" discount or have it fixed and I would have to pay to have it fixed.
I am so unnerved.
Anyone have this happen then call back and get better service?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by insider (7/25/06 3:47 PM) + / -
ANOTHER TIP

if you are sent to the customer loyalty when you call about your cx4600 they actually have 2 options one is at a repair which will cost you notheing and notheing for the shipping only downside is it will take about a month based on ship times, and repair times also it is likely you will recieve a cx4800 in place of the 4600 if they are unable to fix it

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Pleased Customer (7/25/06 10:47 PM) + / -
Same old story happened to me...blank pages, chnaged cartridges, same thing again. So today I called customer service, (USA 562-276-4382) they told me to shake the cartridges, clean the heads, and run the software nozzle cleaning process. I did this while staying on the line with the agent, told him the result was just another failure, then he asked me for my date of purchase, and since it had been less than a year, they are sending me a new CX4800, which should get here within 5 weekdays.
Im very pleased with the customer service Ive received so Im giving Epson another chance with the CX4800.

BTW: I find it amazing that they didn't ask for proof of date of purchase, simply my word...meaning if your printer is older than a year, but you feel youve been cheated by this printer, ...

Also, they are not even asking for my current non-functioning CX4600 back, so that's interesting as well. Maybe one of these days Ill get it to work, but I highly doubt it.

Good luck to the rest of you.

My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Sooz5320 (7/28/06 8:27 AM) + / -
CX4600 purchased 4/05 printed blank pages. Sent email. Did what said. Told to call and say email said to call and then no charges to talk to them except your long distance minutes. Called the phone number 562-276-4382 and first person couldn't do anything but transferred me to customer service. Since out of warranty by a few months (they do look up your serial # and can tell when it was purchased since I registered mine when I got it) they are sending me a shipping label and at no cost to me will either repair or replace. From what I read in this thread, they will probably send a new CX4800. I am disgusted that they CX4600 and CX4800 do not use the same ink cartridges. Also tried the fixes mentioned in this thread but none worked for me. Oh well. Will see if printer arrives. For those of you who have done this, what has happened? How soon does your new or repaired printer arrive?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Nodnarb (7/28/06 9:00 AM) + / -
I had the same problems as well...new ink, can't print. I did all the troubleshooting steps on my own a few days ago. I called in today and told the CSR about not being able to print. I told her all of the steps I took plus researching the problem online and discovering all of the other people who have had trouble with the CX4600.

The CSR asked where I purchased it (BestBuy) and the date of purchase. I am only a few days away from my warranty becoming expired. She asked if I had the recepit. They are sending me a replacement unit, but they are also requiring me to send this one back. She didn't say if it would be another 46000 (which I suspect) or a 4800.

The supervisor was also a csutomer service guy and said he'd give me a cheque or money order for a full refund as well as a printable download for two free inks. At first He wasn not going to do this, but when i told him i NEEEEDEDD a pritner ASAP he said he would.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Glenn Anderson (8/7/06 11:37 AM) + / -
I'm a professional graphic artist, writer and photographer and in my opinion the Epson CX4600 should be taken off of the market and a refund given to everyone that ever bought one.

To say that I a preturbed with Epson for putting this piece of crap on the market, let alone leave
its various problems unresolved would be an understatement.

In reading the foregoing thread, I find that the problems are not only common, but continuous for over a year in time and have reached the following conculsions:

1. Why bother with another Epson printer, free or not ? Printers are relatively cheap when compared to the continuous need to use an excessive amount of new print cartridges to keep
an Epson functional.

2. Compensation from Epson by giving you another faulty printer of the same or similar design, or cutting you a little slack on the price of printers and ink is decidedly a non solution.

3. I didn't buy this machine to become a printer tech ... nobody pays me for the time I have already wasted on mine thus far or compensates me for the lost productivity time it has taken from me in performing my regular job.

Re: Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by glenn Anderson (8/8/06 10:47 AM) + / -
I can't view this message without a tinge of amusement ...

Sure your new 4600 works ... and it will undoubtedly continue to work just as it should right out of the box ... so be happy while you can ... for it has obviously not yet occured to you that Epson #2 will be headed right down the same path as your Epson #1, in that Epson itself has done nothing, save possibly sent you a new printer with clean print heads, to solve the immediate customer relations problem.

As an addendum to my last input of 7 August, I have since installed a new set of cartridges, and cleaned the nozzles endlessly, and believe it or not, the situation got worse instead of better ...
at one point I wasn't printing any colors ... now I can't even print in B&W ... apparently that nozzle has become completely clogged as well.

In that Epson's solution to cleaning print heads won't even work on a formerly clean print head
using fresh inks, "I'm outta here" - headed for the store for a printer that works first time, every
time... and it won't be another Epson.

As an aside ... in view of such a common problem, I wonder if it never occured to Epson to simply produce a relatively low priced "head cleaner cartridge" that would use a solvent, vice inks, to clean out the nozzles ? Were it that simple, vice expending any more of their high cost inks in the process, it might be worth a little extra time, care and attention to keep the print heads totally clean - especially before you had to go off for any extended period of time where the printer would not be
in use. Duh?

Let me start by saying this forum has been an invaluable tool for me. Obviously i'm not the only one banging their head against an Epson 4600. I see that many of you have had sucess in getting replacements and or repairs from Epson customer service. I also noticed some of you have not. I am about to call Epson myself for such a request having tried everything in this forum and elsewhere to alleveate the issue myself. Just wondering if the people who have had success with Epson customer service wouldn't mind providing a script of sorts of what I should say and how to the Epson customer service representative to achieve a favorable outcome. Thanks

I have the same issue as everyone else. I have gone through multiple ink cartridiges. $$$ I guess you have to hit me over the head multipe time before I get it! I tried service and got no where. That may have to do with the fact that I got the printer at no charge after rebates! FYI our local Compusa used to have a Epson rep on Saturdays. I thought about speaking w/him. What is that they say about free? You get what you pay for! Anyway, I decided to chuck the whole thing because the ink is a $$$ racket. I now plan to buy an inexpensive printer and use it as a printer and purchase a scanner and use it as a scanner. I expected more from Epson. :-(

same here, prints nothing! And I just replaced with all new inks too. Now I found out it's the printer's problem, but my warranty is over. Can they match my serial number to date of purchase? Or can I just lie about the date and get a replace printer that they owe me so much

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by soupy (9/27/06 6:40 PM) + / -
If you are in the ***U.S.A.***, call tech support. They will verify you have done the relevant troubleshooting, and offer you access to a website with discounted products. You may be transfered to another line first. Wait patiently for the rep to finish, then politely ask if there's any way Epson could fix the printer for free.

The process takes 4-5 weeks, but you may even get a free upgrade out of the deal. Don't be a dick, or you might not get the offer.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (9/28/06 1:38 PM) + / -
My 4600 did not work I used at least 80.00 dollars worth of ink. I call there Tec Dept and was given the round around I then called Mr. Steve at CORPORATE PHONE NUMBER: (562) 981-3840 Headquarter, five minutes later I was called and told to ship the printer to them, two weeks later I received the 4800, hope it works better than the 4600. Great support from Mr. Steve at Corporate Headquarters.

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by Anonymous (9/30/06 10:26 AM) + / -
Following Epson Printer will print blank pages or have "output issues" as we called it when I worked tech support for Epson.

Epson Stylus CX4600
Epson Stylus CX5400
Epson Stylus CX5200
Epson Stylus CX6400
Epson Stylus CX6600 <--- not a loyalty product

Epson Stylus C82
Epson Stylus C84
Epson Stylus C86 <--- not a loyalty product

If you call tech support with the S/N number and have "output issues". They'll go through T/S and then offer you loyalty. And if you complain a little...they'll offer to fix the printer for free! (4-5 weeks)

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by nyinvestigator (9/30/06 11:55 AM) + / -
I have had about six Epson printers since 2003 which were the C60, C62, and currrently the C84. ALL broke down, and all were shipped back to epson (under warranty) and replaced. Each replacement proved defective. sometimes I managed to get an extra set of cartridges from them, since I wasted new cartridges on bad printers. This C84 (already a replacement one) is now printing blank pages. It needed multiple nozzzle cleanings in the 2 years I have struggled with it, and finally after a complete and expensive replacement of all four cartridges, it is kaput. Tech support told me it is probably clogged beyond my ability to repair. After talking to another department, they offered me the "loyalty" offer, which only includes low rated Epsons. At this point, I think I am ready to go to a major store and buy a high rated Canon, and just give up on epson. I believe there are major flaws beyond just cleaning (if one knew how). any thoughts on the Canons? also, look into the class action re: their epson ink cartridges befor November, call 1-877-506-4031 if you did not get a notice. I don't think any offer could give me at this point would be worth it, why should I buy another low rated product when all stores discount anyway? Thoughts?

Re: My Epson CX4600 prints blank pages by RetroRalph (10/1/06 6:09 PM) + / -
My printer Epson CX4600 purchases 6/16/2005. Finally acts like is totally dead. Must be clogged up, too.

Judging by the messages and responses here it is aparently pretty common with these printers. So, I'm just going to disconnect and set it aside until I decide to toss it out. I had new cartridges sitting in it for quite awhile as wasn't used much at all and after a few days away some time ago it wouldn't print at all.

So I cleaned heads until ink level dropped down and it didn't work yet. So I let it sit. It still showed half full cartridges and I tried it again yesterday and after several cleanings (3 or 4) it registered empty cartridges and still will not print.

So, I'm kind of disappointed in them. I might explore refilling as I have 3 sets of empty cartridges now. But, I hate to even fool around with such a troublesome item. I sure hate to waste all the ink trying to clean the printheads all the time.

If someone has any ideas regarding fixing and ongoing diddling with this thing, I'd be interested. I'm not above trying to fix something like this. I've worked on others but not Epson inkjets before.

Thanks, all.

Does anyone have to wait 5-10 days for the label for Fedex to come through the REGULAR USPS mail?

I called about my printer a few days ago (blank pages), and it seems pretty crazy that they say there is no other way but to send me the fedex instructions+prepaid label through regular post. My cx4600 has never printed a day in it's life. Any advice on who to talk with at Epson?

I posted above (10/13/06 11:12 AM) about my experience so far.

I received a CX4800 printer today. It seems to be working well. If you need to contact customer service, I think they're very good about giving you what you want in the end - that is, try not to be unreasonbale and stress that you are a loyal customer.

They apparently don't fix CX4600 printers now, so they'll pretty much send you a new one (I think).

After reading the posts on this site I just got off the phone with Epson Tech support. They are sending me a new CX4800 (with print cartridges)to replace my CX4600 that was shooting blanks. I don't have to return the old one and no shipping fees.

Things to know if you call Epson (562-276-4382)

They will ask you for the model number and serial number of your printer.

When they ask you what you did to try and remedy the problem, tell them you ran the "clean print head" utility 3 or 4 times, changed cartridges (Epson only), and are still getting blank pages.

When they ask you when you bought the printer tell them a specific date within the last year. They will ask if you have a receipt, say yes you have one but not with you right now but you know you bought it on xx/xx/xx. If they say that thier system says it is no longer under warranty, challenge them and ask what they have for a purchase date. They will not have a purchase date so challenge how they know its not under warranty and insist you bought it within the last year (be nice).

They will ask you if you used genuine Epson cartridges, say yes. They will ask for cartridge numbers, if you have numbers give them. If not, say you don't have the cartridges with you right now.

Stress that you are a loyal Epson customer and this is the first time you have had such a big problem with Epson printers.

That my friends, should get you a new CX4800 printer sent to your doorstep. Not that a new Epson printer with the same problems should get you excited but in my case it did make me feel a little better.

I'm having the exact same problem - blank pages after replacing the ink cartridges. I've had it about 18 months, so I'm out of warranty.

I have mixed feelings at the moment about Epson.

On the plus side, that they have a number you can call and get a real person, even if you're out of warranty, is a plus. My call was answered immediately.

The first guy I talked to was pretty useless. He offered me a discount (about $30) on a new printer and gave me the number of a local place that does repairs (at my cost).

After that call, I found this website and got extremely ticked off. I called back to vent and to get the name/address of someone I could write to. The guy I got that time was very helpful. He actually took my name and phone number and documented my call. Then he transferred me to the "out of warranty" department. They initially wanted to offer me the same discount.

I made it abundantly clear that at this point I was never going to purchase another Epson again. Did I mention that I *just* spent $100 on ink cartridges? And of course none of the models they are selling accept the same cartridges.

They then offered to repair it for free. I have to ship it to them (they are paying the shipping) and it will take 10-14 days, but at least it's not costing me anything.

Overall experience to date: better than most. If the first guy had been more helpful to start with, I would be perfectly satisfied.

I removed the 5 screws and tried to take out the plastic piece with the 4 ink probes but it seems like it is stuck under the rectangular piece (a rectangle shape minus the upper right corner) in front of it. Does that rectangular piece have to be removed first? Thanks for your help.

Just now did the same thing....at thr right of the little 3 cornered thing there is room for a small screwdriver to "gently!" pry it away for the right side. when you do that the head lifts out rather easily..Good luck..mine is soaking right now...

I just got off the phone with customer relations. My printer is barely over the warranity and they also told me to send them the printer and that they would repair it at their expense. Did this fix the problem for you? I have also spent alot of $ on ink and will never purchase another epson. I think their ink is the most expensive on the market.

Is there a step by step guide on how to clean the print heads, etc. on the CX4600? I haven't been able to get it to print since the ink that came with it ran out. It is over a year old so I doubt Epson will help me so I want to take it apart and clean everything out myself.
Thanks

I'm a PC tech by trade so on occasions I receive used printers from my clients who have become fed up and bought new ones. I've had the exact same problems with the CX4600 and an Epson C64, both using the same cartridges. Thankfully my primary printer is an HP all-in-one. Haven't had any problems with that one so far...

Thank you SO much for your posting - my 2-year-old CX5400 is doing the same thing -crapped out & displayed that it was out of black ink - I bought new ink, no luck. I'm going to try your method (repair shops said service charge for looking at it was $75.00, then plus repair, would not be cost-effective to fix this, apparently). I'll let you know if it worked. I'm hoping to at least get to use up the rest of the ink cartridges before I have to replace this hunk of junk... This is so disappointing. Up until now it's been a good printer. I doubt I'll buy from Epson again.
