 | Phaser 8200 by marcella (8/25/05 9:05 AM) reply | + / - | I have a Tektronix Phaser 8200. It has been printing out dirty copies for quite some time. I have performed the light strip, changed the maintence, etc. I had a tech come in yesterday and he reported that we should perform light test and them shut down for 4+ hours. We did last night and it is worse today. He looked up info regarding Phaser 850. Is this compatible to the 8200? It states on his report that a printerhead will cost $1000. Is this the only way to fix this machine? Please help!! Marcella

If it has spots then check the 2 lift pins located on either side of the maintance drawer for wear. (they should be flat on the botom not notched) If they are worn then you will need a new drawer. (about $100.00) Also check to see if it has the new style of the DM clutch.
If it has stripes and the ELS did not fix the problem. What jets are missing? Are you running Genuin Xerox ink or Generic ink. There is also file to down load to the printer that may help.
As for replacing the print head it is usually cheaper to replace the printer if it is not under contract.

 | Re: Phaser 8200 by marcella (8/25/05 11:17 AM) reply | + / - | It has stripes through the black only. The receptionist had run a few crayons of black through that was not genuine xerox ink. I tried to download the file and I could not send it to the printer. If you have any other advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Marcella

When you said you were unsuccesful in sending the file to the printer, how did you go about doing it?

 | Re: Phaser 8200 by marcella (8/25/05 12:28 PM) reply | + / - | I downloaded the jetfix to My Computer (C drive). Then I went into Readme to see how to send to printer. Then when I found the folder that I needed (black ink). I clicked on it and a window never showed up for me to put the IP address, etc. Maybe I was doing it wrong. Let me know either way.

 | Re: Phaser 8200 by adrian2005 (8/25/05 12:49 PM) reply | + / - | Unfortunately it's not quite as simple as that (things never are!)
in a browser window type FTP://
for example, if the IP address of your printer is 192.168.0.200 you would type FTP://192.168.0.200
Then you should be able to "drag and drop" the jetfix file directly into your printer

 | Re: Phaser 8200 by jdwvw (8/25/05 1:38 PM) reply | + / - | If you have your reciept from purchasing the generic ink the manufacture "Media Science" will pay to replace the print head.
Then throw away all the generic ink and only use GENUINE XEROX ink in ALL solid ink printers. JDW

 | Phaser 8200 bad color by Nick G (1/31/06 3:07 AM) reply | + / - | I'm using Media Science solid inks for sometime, results have been fine, but recently all blue/cyan printing is looking a dirty GREEN. Maintance kit does need changing, but is there anything else I need to do?? Thanks

 | Re: Phaser 8200 by wlulham (1/31/06 8:35 AM) reply | + / - | Your problem is probably that you used generic ink. The ink formulas aren't exactly the greatest, so sometimes it'll run just fine, and one day...pfft. Gone.
Alternatively, you might have yellow mixed into the cyan reservoir. You could try flushing out the ink, but it'll use up a lot of it.

 | Re: Re: Phaser 8200 by Anonymous (1/31/06 9:21 AM) reply | + / - | Thanks wlulham, would storing the printer in v.cold conditions recently change the performance of the inks? Checking the test print sheet I realise ALL the colours have lost their brightness/cleanness. Does that sound like maintance kit need changing? Not sure how to go about flushing out the inks, is there a best way that you know? Thanks again for any more info you have. Nick

 | Re: Phaser 8200 by jdwvw (2/1/06 7:44 PM) reply | + / - | Sounds like generic ink and or burned ink to me. Throw that generic ink in the trash and put som real ink in it. then run ELS about 4x and you should see some improvement.

 | Re: Phaser 8200 by Xerox Tech (2/5/06 8:43 AM) reply | + / - | if you run about 80 solid fill pages of each color you are having a problem with you should get the colors back to normal.

 | Re: Phaser 8200 by Rando (4/13/06 9:07 AM) reply | + / - | I have a 8200DP that i have been working franticly on. First an error came up, after much research i found the bulbs needed replacing. So i did that, and to my amazment was able to put the printer back together with no extra pieces left over. But now however the printer jams at the upper feed roller. It doesnt jam, it just doesnt go through the feed rollers. I think something is keeping those rollers from doing thier job. This was not a problem before we took it apart. But if i try to manually feed it will not pull from the bottom tray, telling me the sensor is still working. Any ideas??
