I HAVE A EPSON C44UX AND I WAS HAPPY PRINTING AWAY ALL MY PHOTOS, WHEN THE CRAP THING DECIDED TO FLASH BOTH ITS LIGHTS AT THE TOP. SO I HAVE TAKEN THE LID OFF (COVER) AND HAD A LOOK INSIDE I CLEANED THAT RUBBER GULLY THING WITH THE RUBBER SQUIDGE ON IT THAT ATTACHES ON TO THE WASTE INK TUBE AND I HAVE CLEANED ALL AROUND THAT AREA, THINKING IT WOULD WORK BUT WHEN I PLUGGED IT BACK IN IT WAS JUST THE SAME. NOW IM SAT HERE WITH BLACK HANDS A TINY SPRING THAT FELL OUT AND I DIDNT SEE WHERE IT HAD COME FROM AND A CRAP PRINTER.
If both lights are flashing alternatively, one then the other, the waste ink counter indicates that the waste ink pads are getting full. It is probably not economical to replace the pads on this inexpensive model.

MY BRO HAD TAKEN IT TO THE SHOP TO FIX IT AND THE GUY SAID IT WOULD COST £100 TO FIX COZ ITS THE HEADS, I USE A BIG INKJET @ WORK (TX2) AND I DONT THINK ITS THE HEADS AS I KNOW WHAT THE SIGNS ARE FOR WHEN IT IS. IF ITS THE SAME ANYWAY THE TX2 HAS THE SAME TECNOLOGY.
WHEN I CLEANED THE INSIDE I HAD A LOOK AT THE SPONGES AT THE BACK OF THE PRINTER AND THEY LOOKED OK ON THE TOP BUT I THINK UNDERNEATH IS A BIT MUCKEY
* DO THESE SPONGES COME OUT JUST BY LIFTING THEM? * COULD I CLEAN THEM MYSELF OR DO I HAVE TO GET IT DONE PROPERLY BY SOME1? * IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD KNOW BEFORE I TRY?
IF I CANT GET IT WORKING I WILL BUY A NEW ONE. I NEVER HAVE THIS PROB AT WORK AS I WORK WITH A EPSON 5000 AND 9000 AND A TX2, WHERE DOES THE 5000 AND 9000 DISPOSE THERE INK? ANYMORE HELP WOULD BE GREAT

I've removed these myself (use disposable gloves!)and washed and dried them then refit, you then clear the service message by following these instructions:
To reset the Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter
Turn off the power. Turn it on again while holding down both the paper & ink buttons. When the paper light starts flashing, immediately release both buttons and then hold down the ink button for at least 10 seconds. The printer should self-check and work normally again."
