 | HP 5L reliability? by spurlocktool (7/25/05 1:21 PM) reply | + / - | My venerable IIIP finally died after many years of reliable service, and I have a chance to buy a 5L that supposedly prints fine but may have the multiple sheet pick up problem. The printer is only $30.00
My question is: Is the 5L anywhere near as reliable as the incredible IIIP workhorse? Is it a much later model than the IIIP? If it's basically a good machine, I'll take a chance on buying it and installing the repair kit.
Thanks,
Bill

It suffers from multi-feed problems like all vertical feed printers. Replacing the kit should remedy that for a few years. The only other problems I've experienced on them is blurry faded print caused by dirt in the scanner assy., and an occasional fuser problem. We actually have one we use in our office for backup printing, like the past week when the boss's computer took a dislike to our main printer. It would still talk to the 5L, so till our computer genius came today, that's what she used for printing.

Mine shows no vital signs, so I assume the power supply is dead. From reading the archives I was under the impression that power supplies were very scarce to unavailable. Is that not true? Thanks
