Does anyone know how to fix a 50.1 fuser error. Have cyled the power but still gives this error...any ideas?

Replace the fuser.

Moe probably could sell you one, if you happened to be in the eastern panhandle ov WV I could loan you a used one to verify the problem.

To visually check if the fusing assembly is functional, you can defeat the rear door interlock
switch.

Press in on the white plastic above the left rear corner of the fan, then turn on the printer. If the fusing bulbs and thermo-switches are good, you should observe light from the lower fusing bulb as the printer warms up.

I believe that the fuser is mostly likely working. The guy told me that he shut it off for about 5-10 minutes and it printed for a while, then gave him the error again. I know some sites say leave it off for about 20 minutes, so I told him to leave it off for a half hour to let the fuser cool down. Otherwise I may just have to replace it?

Then it could be an intermittent power supply.

It's even possible the solder joints at the fuser power connector on the power supply are cracked.

If the 50 error goes away the machine was turned off long enough.

On some of the older LaserJet's the 50 error will not clear on a short power off, for example if it was a LaserJet Series II and you only powered it off for 10 minutes, then when you turned it on the error would still be there, and you'd have to then turn it off for 20 more minutes.

So if the prob. doesn't go away possibly check the power supply huh?

If it says "IN CHAT" next to my name I'm in the FYOP chat room.

Easiest thing is to try another fuser, do you know anybody who has a 45XX printer where you could test yours, or borrow theirs?

The fuser doesn't have to be in very good shape, most 45XX fusers fail with bad rollers.

You need to change the High and Low voltage Power supply.

High voltage power supply has nothing to do with a fuser error. I wish people who post would have correct info and not cause people to replace unessary parts. A tip that the poster knows nothing is he did not put in his name.

HI DMZ,

You say that they don't have anything to do with each other. What is the 50.1 and what is the fix then? We have a 4550 that is doing this and my technician shut it off and then back on. It printed for a little while and then the error came back. We have it turned of now for 30 minutes to see what happens.

My post was referring to the post of the high voltage ps which has nothing to do with the fuser. High voltage is used in the imaging process and not the fusing. As to your issue it can be the fuser, but not always since it works when you turn the power off and then back on. One thing is to make sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall socket and that power source has enough amps without other items on the same ciruct which could cause a drop in the available power. If the error persists replace the fuser as that is the first step and the item is a consumable.

I tend to agree. If replacing the fuser does not resolve it, the power supply. It would be the low voltage one only. Our 8150 was connected directly to the AC. We had a nasty lightning storm. All our other Lasers were connected to surge suppressors. Every other time I got a 50.1 that the new fuser did not resolve, it was the power supply.

How does one extract the low voltage power supply of an HP 4550DN color laser printer to check its solder joints (50.1 fuser error notice)? I've removed the small back cover behind the blower fan filter hoping that I would be able to get at the low voltage power supply. I didn't see any obvious way from that approach. I then removed the screws holding the right side cover (nearest the 115 volt power feed) thinking I might be able to get to the power supply, but all I saw was a solid wall of sheet metal. At that point I stopped. Do I have to remove the entire outer shell of the printer to get to the power supply or is there an easier way to access it? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The 4550 lvps is different that the 8150 and I have not heard of anyone fixing a 50.1 error by repairing it. If a new fuser or known good fuser does not work, then replacement of the lvps will be necessary.
