looking at some of the other posts it seems as though i have had the reset counter message, but being a clever type i thought i could go around it by uninstalling the printer and then reinstalling it. Not the case. I cannot now reinstall the printer , my system wont recognise the usb connection on the installation process. Also i have downloaded the SCC Service utility recommended on other threads, but this also tells me I have a connection problem. Any ideas out there how to reinstall?
jc: I don't know if any of these methods will actually work on your "C42", but here's some previously posted information that you can try: "Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by tomcat (2/22/05 10:28 PM). Almost all epson can be reset by: pressing and holding the paper eject button for 5 seconds. While still holding the eject button now hold the power button and the eject button for 5 seconds"...[OR]..."Re: Epson Stylus C80 print problems by Mark Voss (2/9/05 8:16 AM). Re: Epson Stylus C80 print problems by Mark Voss (2/9/05 8:16 AM) reply To reset the Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter: Turn off the power. Turn it on again while holding down both the paper & ink buttons. When the paper light starts flashing, immediately release both buttons and then hold down the ink button for at least 10 seconds. The printer should self-check and work normally again."...[OR]..."Re: My Epson Is Flashing Me by viewer (2/7/05 11:42 AM). Try this to clear the waste counter. It works on some Epson printers. Not sure if it works on yours. I have used it to clear my Stylus 900 and Photo 1280 printers. (1) While turning the printer on, pressing the both Load/Eject and Cleaning buttons generates the Special setting mode. While the Paper Out LED is blinking. (2)While the Paper Out LED is blinking, pressing the Cleaning button for 10 seconds. This will reset the waste ink counter. (3) Turn off the printer and turn it on again. Now the "all light flash" problem should go away."......REMEMBER: Simply resetting that "Maintenance Request Error", is only doing part of the job and its possible that you could have additional problems later. The maintenance request error is actually a "Waste Ink Ink Pad Error" and usually your remedy is to replace the waste ink pad/pads with a new one/ones and then reset the "Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter", which of course you already did. If you just reset the counter and don't replace the pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow and normally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer. You can see "Exploded Parts Diagrams" of most Epson Ink Jet Printers and can also check on possible parts ordering, by Compass Micro Inc, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm. Some people actually wash the ink out of the old pads, by holding them under running cold water. Then they simply dry them out and reinstall them back into their printer. The choice on what to actually do, is yours to make. There is an "Epson Stylus C60 Printer Information Page", that you can view at http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/C60.html, that also includes your "C42" model. It does have a section on the left side you can click-on, titled WASTE INK PAD SERVICING and also a section titled HOUSING REMOVAL, that will be of some help to you, if you want to try the needed servicing...If any of these methods actually resets your printer, then once that service error condition goes off, you should be able to reinstall those printers drivers. If they don't work, then you could always go on-line and buy and download the actual reset procedure. You can view the "C41, C42 Printers Service Program" from 2manuals.com, thats available to buy and download for around $7.00, at http://www.2manuals.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_56_50&products_id=196 ...Good Luck!
