Epson C70+ printing blank pages by Derryl Casey (2/5/05 4:53 AM) reply + / -
Hi, I have an Epson C70 Plus printer which prints totally blank pages. There is not even any sign of ink, just blank. Can anyone suggest how I may fix the problem? Thanks.

C70, C80, C82 and C84 all share the same printing engine, take a look of the various thread about C82 printing blank pages, they apply to your printer too.

Thanks, I have looked at the C80/82 pages, and there appears to be two main problems: a tube under the printhead 'home station' or the printheads are clogged. I bought this printer second hand, however I saw it working beforehand, and had it delivered by courier. Does this mean that the tube could be the more likely problem?

Clogs occur often while using compatible cartridges, due to different ink type (Epson ink is pigment based) and different cartridge structure (original cartridges are spongeless while compatible ones still use it).

With original cartridges the most common cause of problems is the cleaning pump tube you just mentioned.

I am using compatible ink cartridges, so may it be to do with the printheads then?

I guess so but it's hard to tell without examining the printer.
Compatible cartridges cause a wide range of problems and it is often impossible to insulate the cause without testing the printer with a set of original ones.
I personally had a compatible cartridge unable to seal the ink conduits, letting air bubbles reach the printhead.

I have been using the same compatible cartridges for some time now, so I don't see why it should be to do with anything with them.

dezza...Just so you will know: Unfortunatly, not all Generic & Third-Party ink & ink cartridges are made the same and none of them actually contain the right formulation of ink, for the Epson Printers [formula is patented by Epson Company]. Some are probably close and seem to be better than others, but some simply can clog-up or even damage the Printhead Assemblies on Epson Printers. Epson Ink Jet Printers are one of the few printers on the market that seem to have so many problems with non-manufactors inks, especially the newer models made in the last couple of years. Its because the Epson Printers use a completely different printhead inking system than most other brands of printers. Most, if not all of the other manufactors, use thermal or bubble jetprint heads and because the other brands use a totally different system, they don't seem to have as many problems using refilled inks or non-manufactor's ink cartridges. Printer manufacters do not make available their ink formulation and in most cases, the formulation is patented. Any difference in the ink formulation can actually cause clogging in the small printhead nozzles or damage other critical components. One individual printhead nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair, so you can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged. Those printheads are one of the reasons that the Epson Printers make such quality color prints, that so many people rave about. Epsons "Micro Piezo Ink Jet Technology" and the ultrafine 4-picoliter ink droplets used in most of the Epson Ink Jet Style Printers, just don't always work well with Non-Epson Inks. I understand the differences in the costs of the Non-Epson Ink and Ink Cartridges, compared to the Epson Ink Cartridges and the choice is always yours to make. It really does not matter to me what type of ink cartridges you decide to use in your Epson Printer...I can tell you that most of the problems people have are caused by something they did, or did not do and are not always the printers fault. SOME EXAMPLES: Refilling your own cartridges, or having them refilled, buying Third-Party ink or Generic ink [Non-Epson Ink or Ink Cartridges is the wrong ink and can cause problems and sometimes even damage], removing the ink cartridge and then reinstalling it on older models of Epson Ink Jet Printers [resets internal ink counter automatically and your printer will not know when the ink actually runs out and usually clogs], never cleaning and servicing your printer [dust, dirt, lint and hair cause problems and wear], not using your printer for long periods of time [ink dries out in the nozzles and can cause clogs], not keeping your printer covered up when its turned off and you are not using it [help stop the dust, dirt, lint and hair from collecting inside your printer and causing problems], or not turning your printer OFF & ON by using the printers ON/OFF Switch [using a main switch on a Power Strip or Surge Protector, can damage the printhead assembly]...Denny Conway
