 | BJC 6500 Waste tank error - 6 beeps! by klang180 (1/18/05 8:29 AM) reply | + / - | Hello everyone.
I phoned Canon and they told me that 6 beeps and orange flashes means the waste ink tank is full and therefore needs a service. Well naturally they wanted an outlandish price for this repair (£70) so i decided to do a bit of online detective work. I found taht i could empty the things myself so i did just that. Now i have the waste ink tank all clean and ready to go again but i can't stop it warning me about it and therefore can;t print.
Could someone please tell me how i can disable this error warning, the waste ink tanks are not full and i am getting very frustrated with Canon designing obselesence into the printer just so you have to fork out big money. They should be ashamed of themselves.
PLEASE PLEASE help, sock it to the big boys!

Ok so as is posted all over the internet you must do the procedure below:
1. press and hold resume, then press and hold power. 2. release resume whilst still holding power and press resume twice, then release power 3. the light will go green, press resume 3 times. 4.press power once to set this in the memory.
Ok so this is available all over the place but it doesn't work just like that.
Before you do the procedure above turn off the printer at the mains. Then whilst holding resume and power at the same time, turn the printer on at the wall. The light will illuminate orange and you are now ready to do the procedures above.
It worked for me and now i have a fully functioning BJC 6500. I hate Canon for making me go through this however and will never buy another product of theirs. It simply isn't acceptable to make your printer fail so that the ordianry consumer has to shell out a lot of money, it reminds me of Apple and their non replacable battery, which you can do yourself but they don't want you to know about.
Hope my post helps many of you who were in the same situation as me.
regards

It is slow, dirty and ugly but its the only one i have for A3... It stopped running a while ago with the same message as you had. i searched for a long time for a solution and i was actualy planning on throwing it away... i wonder howmany 6500's have gone to waste like this. I got so tired of the bleeps that i distroyed the beeper, but that did not make it work... :-)
thx again,
D
